Chapter 255: Chapter 256 Spank or Twist Ears_1
Chapter 255 -256 Spank or Twist Ears_1
He was a businessman, adept in calculations, and even more so fond of controlling the overall situation. Just like when Yu Ze was still unconscious, he had already foreseen the scenario upon his awakening. Once Yu Ze awakened, he immediately anticipated the situation Muniang and Yu Ze found themselves in now.
He thought he had the development of events well in hand; he assumed that, given Muniang’s uncompromising nature, she would have lost hope in Yu Ze by now. However, the recent events revealed that Muniang still couldn’t help but worry about Yu Ze.
Wu Haoli’s brow furrowed slightly. He had calculated so much but had failed to account for Muniang’s true feelings for Yu Ze.
The meal was actually ready before Muniang brought it over for Li Cheng and Wanwan; everyone was just waiting for her and Qinghe to return before eating together.
It wasn’t long before the dishes were served. Mrs. Lin was well aware of Wu Haoli’s generosity. When their family was in dire straits, his timely help with those ten thousand silver taels had been a lifesaver. Now at the dinner table, she was particularly enthusiastic.
“Hey, eat up. Look at this Dongpo pork; it’s delicious, and the duck blood vermicelli soup isn’t bad either. I’ll get you some,” she offered.
Wu Haoli chuckled and said, “It is indeed delicious. Even the head chef at our restaurant doesn’t have skills that can match Muniang’s.”
Delighted by his compliment, Mrs. Lin smiled even more cheerfully and said, “Next time you want to eat, just come over directly. I hear that your home is pretty empty and a bit lonely. If you don’t despise our humble place, feel free to come whenever you want. You’ve helped our family so much, I’ve been wanting to properly thank you.”
Muniang chided Mrs. Lin, “Mother, don’t trouble yourself. When does he ever spend his days here in Tupo Village? It’s rare for him to return even once in a fortnight, let alone have free time every day to come to our house for a meal. Dongxing Building isn’t the only place in Chatu Town.”
Smacking her forehead, Mrs. Lin exclaimed, “Oh dear, I almost forgot. It’s me who’s idle at home every day.”

Wu Haoli laughed, “No worries. As long as you don’t find me bothersome, I’ll come over for a meal when I’m free. After all, it’s delicious and filling, right?”
With that, he glanced out of the corner of his eye at Yu Ze, whose complexion was indeed not looking great.
“Yu Ze, are you feeling all right? Your complexion looks so poor,” Mrs. Lin asked with concern.
Muniang looked over as well; she had felt something was off since her return that day and had also wanted to ask.
Yu Ze forced a smile, “No, I’m fine.”
Muniang gave him a strange look. Fine my foot.
The meal proceeded joyfully for everyone except Yu Ze. Wu Haoli didn’t stay long after eating and soon got ready to leave. As Muniang escorted him out, Wu Haoli originally wanted to say something. But recalling Muniang’s behavior towards Yu Ze, he ultimately held back and simply bid her farewell before getting on his carriage and leaving.
Turning around to go back inside, Muniang returned to the parlor and immediately felt that something was amiss. “Hey, where did my fine nanmu wood table go? Why has it been changed?” she demanded.
Qingya gave a sheepish smile and replied, “This table… suddenly broke, so I had someone replace it with a new one.”
Frowning, Muniang asked, “What do you mean, ‘broke’? All our furniture is crafted by the best furnishing shop in Chatu Town; everyone says it could last for decades without any problems. How could it just suddenly break?”
Knowing she couldn’t keep it a secret, Qingya braced herself and answered, “The master smashed it.”
Muniang was taken aback for a moment, then questioned, “What on earth got into him?”
“Perhaps… it’s because of Mr. Wu. Before you came back, madam, the master and Mr. Wu were in the parlor, and I didn’t dare to enter. Later, there was a noise, and the master smashed the table. I guess, maybe Mr. Wu said something that provoked the master,” Qingya speculated.
Muniang pondered for a moment, reflecting on Yu Ze’s odd behavior today, and seemed to have guessed something. She felt a wave of speechlessness. She had never hidden her interactions with Wu Haoli from him; they had always been just proper business dealings. What unfounded jealousy was he harboring now?
In the afternoon, Muniang planned to visit Tianzhuang. Yu Ze immediately followed her, making sporadic conversation. Muniang responded with indifference.
Yu Ze glanced at Muniang’s expression, and feeling that the timing seemed right, he mustered his courage and said, “My lady, that Wu Haoli is rather cunning. We should lessen our dealings with him.”
Muniang gave him a side-eye look, “I think He Suxue is even more cunning. Can we cut ties with her?”
Yu Ze almost choked with embarrassment, plaintively saying, “My lady, please don’t be angry with me.”
Muniang responded coolly, “Why shouldn’t I be angry? Tell me why. Is it because He Suxue won’t trouble us anymore in the near future? Has the issue she mentioned before leaving truly been resolved forever? Can you ensure that you will keep your distance from her in the future and prevent her from annoying me again?”
Yu Ze was left speechless.
Muniang enunciated each word, “If nothing has been resolved, am I to pretend nothing happened and continue our life together, only to deal with He Suxue’s new antics when she decides to stir up trouble again?”
Yu Ze’s face was a portrait of helplessness, “My lady—”
Muniang didn’t want to push him like this, but she couldn’t help her anger every time this matter was raised. Seeing Yu Ze’s conflicted look, she felt somewhat guilty and changed the subject, “That nanmu desk of mine cost quite a bit of silver, not to mention my door! Don’t keep fiddling around with it, or if you ruin it again, I’ll kick you out!”
Yu Ze, looking wronged, replied, “I understand, it won’t happen again next time.”
Muniang glared at him, but let it drop. The man was like a brute, capable of breaking anything, which left her feeling uneasy. What if, by some mischance, he lost his temper and smashed their whole house to bits?
“Mu, sister!” The crisp voice called out, unmistakably belonging to one of Madam Liu’s little imps.
Muniang’s eyes lit up, “How did you kids get here?”
With a sheepish grin, Hongde said, “Today the academy was closed, Mother is busy in the embroidery room, and Father isn’t home.”
Qingya laughed, “It seems that these kids have started to think of our place as their own.”
With a pout, Hongsheng declared, “Mu, sister belongs to our family, and she’ll be my wife in the future!”
Yu Ze vigorously ruffled his head, “Keep talking nonsense, and I won’t let you come and play anymore.”
However, Hongsheng was truly fearless, smugly responding, “I’ll ask Mu, sister if I can come and play. I don’t need your permission. If you don’t let me, I’ll complain to Mu, sister and she’ll spank you!”
Yu Ze’s face darkened. Spank your sister!
Muniang burst into laughter, “Have you been hit by your mother again recently?”
Hongsheng’s small face flushed, “How does Mu, sister always guess these things?”
Annoyed, Tianniu retorted to Hongsheng, “You lack brains. Mu, sister, and brother-in-law are adults. They wouldn’t spank anyone over something like this. How embarrassing! I’ve seen Mother educate Father by pulling his ears.”
