Chapter 39: Specter Among The Stars

Lunareio’s consciousness stirred, his body no longer heavy with the weight of Lilith’s warmth or the plush velvet of his chambers. Instead, he felt... weightless.

His eyes fluttered open, and he found himself hovering in an endless expanse of star-dusted void.

Nebulae swirled in the distance, their colors bleeding into one another like spilled ink—crimson, violet, sapphire.

The silence was deafening, yet serene.

"What the...?" he muttered, his voice echoing faintly in the vacuum. "How the hell did I end up in space?"

He twisted his body, or what he assumed was his body, expecting to see his familiar robes or the glow of his celestial tongue.

Instead, he was translucent, a shimmering silhouette of silver and blue, his essence pulsing like a star.

His brows—or the spectral equivalent—furrowed.

"Alright, this is new. And not the fun kind of new."

Suddenly, a resonant voice boomed within his mind. It was Guardian.

『I’m surprised you still get surprised, host.』

『Do not be alarmed. Due to the influx of Soulflare consumed from Lilith’s offering, your soul has reached a state of saturation. You have ascended temporarily into the Aetherial Overwatch, a divine spectator state.』

Lunareio blinked, or at least imagined he did,

as he saw Guardian’s translucent purple system window materialize before him. The text glowed faintly, Guardian’s words inscribed in elegant, flowing script.

"Aetherial Overwatch? Sounds like a fancy way of saying I’m stuck floating in the middle of nowhere," he grumbled, crossing his spectral arms. "Care to explain what this is, exactly?"

『The Aetherial Overwatch is the primordial state of a god before manifesting a physical form on the mortal plane. In this form, your soul is unbound, capable of perceiving the cosmos in its raw essence. It is the foundation of divine existence, a state of pure observation and potential.』

Lunareio sighed, the sound more a vibration of his essence than an actual breath.

"Great. So, my body’s fine, right? I’m not, like, dead or disintegrated or something stupid like that?"

『Affirmative. Your physical form remains intact, resting in your chambers under Lilith’s care. This state is temporary and will allow you to better attune to your godly duties with heightened clarity.』

"For some reason, the thought that my body is ’under Lilith’s care’ makes me uneasy. And what do you mean by godly duties?"

Lunareio’s tone dripped with skepticism. "What’s that supposed to mean? I’m already drowning in responsibilities with you making me into a deterrent force, and now you’re adding cosmic field trips to the list?"

Before Guardian could respond, Lunareio turned—or rather, his perspective shifted—and his breath hitched.

There, suspended in the void, was a massive, sprawling planet. Its surface shimmered with oceans of sapphire and emerald, continents sprawling in intricate patterns of green, gold, and amber.

Clouds swirled lazily across its atmosphere, catching the light of a distant star. It was breathtaking, alive, and impossibly vast.

"Whoa..." he whispered.

『This is the world of Eryndralis. Home to countless souls, dreams, and destinies.』

Lunareio’s lips—or their spectral echo—curved into a faint smile. "Okay, I gotta admit... that looks really cool... those online RPG game maps don’t even come close."

He pivoted his gaze, drawn to a distant blaze of light. Far beyond Eryndralis, a radiant sun burned, its golden fire casting warmth across the cosmos.

It was mesmerizing and... oddly nostalgic—not in a way he would have expected, but rather in a more... personal manner. Still, something else caught his attention.

Slowly, he turned to the opposite side of the void, and there it was—the moon. Pale, luminous, and hauntingly familiar, it hung like a silver coin against the infinite black.

Its surface was etched with faint craters, glowing softly as if whispering secrets only he could hear.

As his gaze lingered, a new interface materialized, this one a shimmering blue cosmic. The Moon God System activated, its text appearing in crisp, luminescent brackets.

⫷『Lunar Sphere: Selunara. Sovereign Domain of the Lunar Sovereign.』⫸

Lunareio’s eyes narrowed, a look of curiosity and amusement appearing on his face.

"Selunara, huh? That’s got a nice ring to it."

He focused on the interface, and it shifted, revealing more data in its cold, procedural manner.

Lunareio stared at the data.

"...Yikes," he muttered. "I’ve seen indie games with better player counts than this."

He flicked through the pages with a swipe of his hand. The interface followed smoothly, spinning stars forming into glyphs.

As Lunareio browsed the Pantheon Console, a new tab blinked into existence—marked with a crescent-shaped glyph. He tapped it.

- Curious Mass Observation

- Older Races (Elves, Celestials, Dragons) begin lunar recognition patterns.

Lunareio arched a spectral brow at the last entry.

"’Older Races begin lunar recognition patterns,’ huh?" he muttered, voice carrying into the void like a ripple in a still pond. "So old races are starting to remember me..."

For a moment, the sheer absurdity of it all washed over him—he was floating in an endless cosmic theater, flipping through divine stats like a bored admin checking server logs. But this wasn’t a game. This wasn’t a dream. He was a god now.

A real one.

The weight of it hit him—not heavy, not oppressive. No, it was exhilarating.

He laughed.

It started low in his chest, blooming into something unrestrained and wild, echoing into the nebula-draped horizon.

"Holy hell, I’m actually a god!" he shouted, voice cracking with disbelief and joy. "This is so ridiculous—I love it."

He spun, arms spread wide.

Suddenly, a devious thought crossed his mind, casting his eyes to glint as he placed his interlaced hands beneath his jaw and smiled.

"Wonder if I can locate Renji from here..." he thought aloud. "Drop a divine curse on him, really make that annoying bastard suffer. Should it be weakness? Blindness? Or maybe..." His grin grew, "I should make his balls fall off instead."

He chuckled at his own joke, the idea of casually inflicting divine karma on that annoying bastard was giving him far more amusement than it probably should have.

"Would serve him right, that pompous little—"

Just then, a shimmer sparked in front of him—like moonlight caught on a blade—and a translucent window snapped into existence with a chime.

Lunareio’s eyes widened with shock as he read it.

"Wait... What?"
