As Lunareio read, the casual smirk that had been playing at the corner of his lips slowly faded.
The words were heavy, thick with pain.
Not just a plea—but a scream smothered by centuries of silence.
He could feel it bleeding through the console.
The desperation.
The shame.
The sense of helplessness.
The unshakable hope that somehow, despite everything, he would answer.
For a brief moment, the void around him seemed to dim, the stars pulling back into a respectful silence.
The Silverclaw Kin... he remembered now... it was oddly familiar... Memories not entirely his.
Vague images stirred in the recesses of his mind: wild silver-furred warriors raising banners under the moon; hymns sung to his name in forests untouched by mortal empires.
They had believed in him—long after the rest of the world had let his name slip into myth.
And now, they were broken.
Enslaved.
Waiting for a god who never came.
Who let them suffer for five hundred years.
And yet they had no choice but to believe.
His hand hovered over the console, fingers curling slowly into a fist.
His usual playfulness was gone.
In its place, something that was more Lunareio’s true self seemed to come over him.
"This isn’t just a prayer..." Lunareio murmured, voice low. "This is... a vow."
Guardian’s voice flickered again, but this time it was softer, almost reverent.
『Warning: Intervention will drastically alter mortal geopolitical structures. Proceed at host discretion. Potential risks: Divine Revelation, War, Mass Awakening.』 freēnovelkiss.com
『With the host’s current system of Mythos, failure to complete this prayer could permanently damage your core.』
There was a difference between answering a prayer and failing to fulfill an answered one, although both could cause damage to the god depending on the nature of the prayer.
For example, if one were to pray to a god they were never truly a follower of, or prayed about something the god frankly had no authority over, such prayers would be ignored and wouldn’t affect the god.
But if they were under that god’s authority and were still ignored, the god’s Mythos would be affected depending on the scale of what was prayed for.
But the act that dealt the most damage to a god was accepting a prayer—and failing to fulfill it.
Such an act could completely ruin a god.
Why?
Because gods are seen as the pinnacle of existence, beings built on belief and the natural existing order.
For a god to fall to another being that is not a god defies their very nature, which is dangerous to them.
It is like the Goddess of Life aiding in the death of a mortal.
Not only would it shake the faith in her, but her authority over the birth of life would be affected.
So it was also the case if a god failed to fulfill an answered prayer.
A thin smile—sharp, cold—crossed Lunareio’s face.
"It’s a big gamble, but I doubt you’d let me die, am I right guardian." he whispered.
『Positive. The host’s continued existence is essential to prevent the world from falling into ruin. While I may prevent your death by any means necessary, the pain you will suffer from such an ordeal could easily be said to be ten times more painful than mortal death, for the decay of a divine core is like experiencing one’s soul wither.』
He straightened, silver light gathering behind him like a rising tide.
"If the world wants to forget the Silver Radiance... then maybe it’s time I remind them."
The Guardian paused for a moment, then asked,
『Why do you wish to answer her? You have never given the impression that you were a good person.』
Lunareio smiled as he said,
"You’re right. I’m not some saint or some flashy hero. Honestly, such labels feel more like shackles than titles of honor.
But looking down at this prayer, I can’t help but feel that if I turned away, I’d be turning away from myself.
Hell knows the number of times I prayed to whatever god there was to save me from that hell."
A memory flashed in his mind—
A man slapping him, shattering a beer bottle over his head for his shitty grades.
That man was his father, while his mother simply sat on the couch and watched TV, as if the abuse of her son couldn’t be less of her concern.
The memory ended.
He then said,
"But if, as some god now, I can answer the prayers of someone..."
He chuckled softly, adding,
"Well, damn hell, I will."
The Guardian paused again before saying,
『I never knew you had a heart.』
Lunareio replied with a twitching grin,
"Shut up, you hack. Then how about you stop being useless and teach me how to tell her I’ll help her out?"
The Guardian responded almost immediately,
『Deducing authority operation parameters from soul ID history... Reinstalling...』
Lunareio barely had a second to react before a sudden, sharp pain stabbed into his head.
It was instantaneous—a flash of white-hot agony that made him go silent.
One moment it was there, the next it was gone, leaving behind an eerie stillness.
He stood quietly, breathing slow and even, a strange calm washing over him.
His cosmic blue eyes began to glow faintly, swirling with deeper shades of light, like a star collapsing into itself.
Then his whispered.
"Luminous Decree: luminous manifestation."
