First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 1912 - Gods Waging War
Chapter 1912 - Gods Waging War
An Epoch Tribulation was a catastrophe sufficient to wipe out an entire epoch civilization, yet the power of reincarnation could neutralize it!
Su Yi hadn’t known about any of this. Waves of emotion coursed through his heart, and his thoughts raced.
The gods did not tolerate reincarnation because it could strip them of their Epoch Laws and cast them back into the dust of mundanity, but in the complete absence of a grudge, why would the gods insist on attacking the bearer of this dangerous power?
And indeed, many didn’t. For example, Xi Ning’s ancient Xi Family hadn’t participated in any operations targeting Su Yi. Moreover, according to Xi Ning, the gods weren’t unified. Rather, they were divided into numerous camps.
Thus, although people said that the gods did not tolerate reincarnation, that was only true for some of them. This group couldn’t represent all gods.
Su Yi had further proof of this. Two of his past lives, including his fifth incarnation, Li Fuyou, had died at the hands of the gods. However, they’d each had friends and allies, too!
For instance, Luo Yao, the woman who’d appeared over the River of Epochs to help him fight off the Dipankara Buddha’s avatar of will, had called him “Daoist Brother!”
That meant that not all gods refused to tolerate reincarnation.
When Su Yi learned that the power of reincarnation could counteract the aura of an Epoch Tribulation, a hypothesis rose unbidden to his mind.
The gods who do not tolerate reincarnation are targeting me because we were enemies in my past lives, but more importantly... it seems they’re eyeing the very power they forbid. They want to seize this unbelievable, forbidden Grand Dao for themselves!
This was a Grand Dao that could counter divine power and strip gods of their godheads. It could also neutralize Epoch Tribulations. What god wouldn’t long to make it their own?
I used to think reincarnation was just an enormous taboo capable of threatening the gods’ positions, but now, it seems it’s nowhere near as simple as I imagined...
“Su Yi, no, Divine Venerate Su! This book has decided to follow you for the rest of my life, even if it means plunging myself into the flame!” The Book of Karma wrote excitedly, text dancing around its pages.
“‘Divine Venerate Su?’” Su Yi’s gaze was strange. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“That’s right. You aren’t a god, but you’re a godlike existence. I’m willing to address you as Divine Venerate, and you’re absolutely worthy of the title!”
The Book of Karma continued, “After all, even mighty chaos treasures such as myself view Epoch Tribulations with fear and trepidation, but to you, they’re... nothing at all!”
The Book of Karma typically just lay flat and accepted its fate. Su Yi wasn’t accustomed to seeing it so fervent and fawning.
“Shameless.” Su Yi sneered, then put the book away and continued on his way.
He occasionally faced more gray lightning imbued with the aura of an Epoch Tribulation along the way, but he used the power of reincarnation to neutralize it, and it worked perfectly every time.
Su Yi couldn’t help but be rueful. Had the Temple Master, Wang Ye, Li Fuyou, or his other past lives possessed the power of reincarnation, how could they have reached the limit of their Daos and been forced to reincarnate?
Su Yi finally understood on a visceral level that his mastery of reincarnation in this lifetime was no coincidence. Rather, it was long determined by fate!
He thought back to his encounter over the River of Destiny, where he saw the swordsman he suspected was his first incarnation.
Back then, a corner of the River of Destiny opened at the Sword of the Nine Hells’ hilt, and a figure floated over the river. He stood there amidst the waves, letting the ages surge past him. None of the ups and downs of worldly affairs or the alternations of history could budge him in the slightest.

He was as steady as a boulder, standing proud in the middle of the River of Destiny! He seemed unshakeable, unmovable, and eternal!
At the time, the mysterious swordsman said, “Rumor has it that when you glimpse the wondrous truths of eternity and grasp the Laws of Destiny, you can stand above all other Daos. You can watch from on high as the world changes beneath you, perceive the wonders of the shifting of the ages, and experience the mysteries of the alternating of epochs...”
He also said that he sought the Dao through the sword, struggled amidst the cycle of reincarnation, and walked amidst the alternating of epochs. He searched and searched, but he found no answers.
When he had no enemies left, he became his own enemy. Only then did he discover that the breakthrough he sought could only be obtained through reincarnation!
Furthermore, his meeting with Su Yi was long since predetermined. This was because those who understood reincarnation could grasp the edges of the River of the Destiny and meet across lifetimes!
It was then that Su Yi guessed that the mysterious swordsman standing atop the River of Destiny was his first incarnation. It was also then that Su Yi acquired the mysteries of Profound Ruin.
Unfortunately, Su Yi still didn’t know who his first incarnation was. All the mysterious swordsman said was that things would naturally become clear once Su Yi was strong enough to surpass him.
Su Yi solemnly asked the mysterious swordsman why he was the one to acquire the power of reincarnation. The mysterious swordsman’s answer left ample room for thought.
“Nine represents the pinnacle. Back then, I was the first to use the cycle of reincarnation to achieve rebirth, beginning our journey toward a higher path. And you? You are the only one that actually found reincarnation. In doing so, we’ve returned to our starting point, creating an endless, self-perpetuating cycle of reincarnation!”
When Su Yi thought back to how his first incarnation stood tall amidst the River of Epoch, traversing the alternating of the epochs, waves coursed through his heart.
Yet to his past self, this was perfectly ordinary!
Looking back on it now, Su Yi suddenly realized how many secrets had been hidden in that exchange. The higher his cultivation and the greater his experience, the more he understood how terrifying of an existence his first incarnation was.
Yet this inestimably terrifying existence had chosen to enter the cycle of reincarnation, taking himself for his own enemy in search of greater breakthroughs!
I didn’t realize how incredible I was before I entered the cycle of reincarnation... Su Yi sighed to himself.
Suddenly, the sounds of fierce combat emanated from afar, startling Su Yi out of his contemplative state.
He whipped his head around and saw a rain of bloody light scattering beneath the distant skies. Lightning ran rampant as a large-scale battle raged.
Shockingly, all of the combatants were gods!
There was a valiant man in armor. When he thrust his spear, stars fell down to earth, all of creation collapsed. Divine radiance dazzled the nine heavens.
There was a woman seated on a divine bird. She held a jade bottle, and endless divine flames poured from its opening, sweeping through the sky and burning the entire stretch of stars.
There was a demonic god who’d expanded to one hundred thousand feet tall. When he roared, the skies fell and the earth collapsed. The world was turned on its axis.
A smooth-faced, gray-haired Daoist unfurled a scroll. It swept through time and space, shattering the firmament!
Each of those terrifying figures was mighty enough to make one’s heart shake, but all of them were injured, and one after another, they all died bloody deaths.
This was because their opponent was a tribulation born of the void. It manifested gray tribulation clouds and rained endless tribulation light upon them!
Tribulation light fell like a waterfall, crushing the sky. As terrifyingly powerful as the gods’ cultivation bases were, and even though they resisted with all their might, they couldn’t avoid being eradicated beneath the onslaught of tribulation light!
It was just too terrifying. Even gazing upon it from afar made Su Yi’s heart palpitate with fright, and chills coursed down his spine.
How could gods be waging war against a tribulation here now? That’s no ordinary tribulation, either. That’s obviously an Epoch Tribulation!
This had only just occurred to him when——
Boom!
A deafening impact resounded throughout the dome of heaven, practically throwing Su Yi into a daze.
The fierce battle raging in the distance vanished, popped like a soap bubble. Heaven and earth returned to stillness. All was barren and bleak; all that remained was the sound of the wind, echoing throughout heaven and earth like the weeping of the gods.
There was no doubt about it. The battle he’d seen earlier was an illusion. Perhaps that battle had really taken place, but if so... it had surely been during the last epoch. It wasn’t of the Immortal Realm.
He could infer that particular detail from the onset of the Epoch Tribulation. After all, whenever an Epoch Tribulation descended, an epoch civilization was doomed to destruction. Not even gods could fight back!
“This cursed place has got to be ruins of the last epoch.” Su Yi was increasingly convinced of this.
At the same time, he was a bit confused.
Why would Feng Wuji, a divine son from the God Domain, understand the Cave of Divine Tears, a ruin of the last epoch, far better than inhabitants of the present-day Immortal Realm?
Also, earlier, Xi Ning told me that she and Luo Tiandu were hunting for one of the secrets of the beginning of the Primeval Era. Does that have something to do with the prior epoch, too? If so, doesn’t that mean that the divine children aren’t just here to become gods and kill me? Do they all have the additional goal of investigating the secrets of the prior epoch, too?
When I leave this place, I’ll go find Xi Ning. Perhaps I can get some answers from her.
As Su Yi pondered, he continued on his way. Suddenly, his eyes narrowed. Hm?
A stingingly bright streak of golden light appeared in the distance, piercing the dome of heaven. It was glittering and resplendent, and it emanated undying charm.
But in the blink of an eye, it vanished.
This drew Su Yi’s attention, and he immediately shot toward the golden light. He could tell that it was coming from the same spot in which he’d witnessed that illusory war of the gods.
Before long, Su Yi saw the source of that golden light——a treasure fragment lying on the ground, covered in dust. It was black and only about the size of his fist, like an abandoned, dusty piece of scrap metal.
When Su Yi drew closer, this unassuming treasure fragment burst with stingingly intense golden light. The radiance soared into the dome of heaven, dying the surrounding hundred thousand feet of sky in holy gold.
Immeasurably brilliant!
Su Yi’s heart stirred. Could this be Undying Demon Gold?
He took out the map Feng Wuji had given him and checked the included picture of Undying Demon Gold. The shape was different, but it too shone with undying, golden brilliance!
After briefly comparing the two, Su Yi was certain that the treasure fragment contained Undying Demon Gold.
He put the map away, took out the Sword of Proximity and the Book of Karma, making ample preparations before reaching for the treasure fragment on the ground.
Weng!
The treasure fragment shook and shot into the air, but just when it was about to land in Su Yi’s hand, something unexpected happened.
