First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 1955: The Whole World Watches
Chapter 1955: The Whole World Watches
The pendant was a dull black, but it was clearly made of extraordinary materials. It was carved with ancient characters that read, “The Spirit Platform of Fangchun, Bodhi maintains the balance.”
When Su Yi gripped it, a chill surged into his soul, and his heart felt tranquil and clear.
What surprised him most was that the pendant was obviously wondrously useful for his cultivation. Even just holding it livened up his vital energy, and he felt as if he could enter a state of enlightenment at a moment’s notice. This was unquestionably an extremely rare and precious treasure!
“What does this pendant do?” Su Yi asked curiously.
The spearwoman, Lin Jinghong, said casually, “It can save your life, but it’s not good for much else.”
Su Yi naturally didn’t believe that. He could tell that the pendant’s value was far beyond normal Epoch Treasures!
But Lin Jinghong quickly changed the subject. “A’Cai is still in that strange, dormant state. I’m not sure when she’ll wake up. What about you? What do you plan to do next?”
“I’ll return to the Academy of Eternal Night and prepare to enter the Epoch Battlefield,” said Su Yi without missing a beat.
Lin Jinghong tilted her head in confusion. “You control reincarnation. Why concern yourself with the opportunities at divinity available in the Epoch Battlefield?”
Su Yi laughed. “It’s true that I don’t need them, but the people around me do. Also, I can take care of some of my old enemies and sever some old enmities while I’m at it.”
Lin Jinghong’s eyes shone with a strange light. “In that case, you’d best be careful. Even after the Epoch Battlefield appears, the gods won’t be able to descend in the flesh, but they will be able to project their avatars of will into the Immortal Realm!”
Su Yi’s gaze focused, but then, he laughed again. “I’m looking forward to it!”
“.....” The spearwoman didn’t know what to say. She’d originally planned to seize this opportunity to knock some sense into Su Yi and tell him to be careful. She would never have guessed he’d be eager for the gods’ avatars of will to arrive!
“What about you?” asked Su Yi. “What are you going to do next?”
Lin Jinghong fell briefly silent. “Before, I was simultaneously searching for two different paths: the path home, and my own path. Now, I have no home left to return to. I can only keep searching for my own path.”
With that, she let out a deep sigh. There was no hiding her melancholy.
The Spirit Martial Epoch was her home, but her father had hidden it from this world.
She’d come to the Place Abandoned by Heaven in hopes that A’Cai’s ability to shuttle across time and space, in tandem with the Spacetime Boundary Marker, would be enough to get her back home. Alas, in the end, she’d failed. She was quite dejected about it; this was her home, and it was her own father who’d placed the seal, yet she still couldn’t get through!
Suddenly, Su Yi said, “It seems to me that your father might have done this on purpose.”
“What do you mean?” asked Lin Jinghong.
“When you have two paths to choose from, hesitation is inevitable, and that fetters your heart,” Su Yi said calmly. “But when you have no other options, you’ll naturally focus on the path before you, and your heart will no longer be conflicted.”
Lin Jinghong fell silent. She understood what Su Yi was getting at.
She’d explored countless worlds in her youth, but no matter where she went, she was fearless. She had no need to worry about anyone hurting her. Why? It wasn’t because she was stronger than anyone else, but because her father and her entire clan stood behind her. Even if she encountered an obstacle, when she returned home, she could always find a senior to vent on her behalf.
She thought little of this. It had been this way since her birth. Why would it bother her?
But if she relied on her background during her pursuit of her own path, it would only fetter her and make her dependent. Every time she met with difficulties, she’d seek her family’s help instead of facing them head-on. That naturally was disadvantageous for her cultivation.
But now, she could no longer return home. There was only one road left for her. That effectively meant she’d severed her fetters and started striving for her own path. That, naturally, was a good thing.
“I just didn’t expect it. Father always doted on me the most. I wouldn’t have thought he’d be so strict about this,” grumbled Lin Jinghong.
Su Yi laughed. “It’s because he dotes on you that he knew he had to sever all other paths if you were to become strong.”
“They say those directly involved cannot see the bigger picture. Part of me expected this, but I couldn’t grasp it with such clarity,” muttered Lin Jinghong. “But this really is a good thing. I’ll just prove my Dao in the present epoch, and if I really run into disaster I cannot resolve on my own, I’ll just get my ‘Uncle Su’ to help me.”
With that, she looked at Su Yi and batted her purple eyes with blatant ridicule.
“....” Su Yi didn’t know what to say.
Lin Jinghong sighed. “It’s a pity, but your cultivation is too weak. Even if I wanted to rely on you, who knows how long I’d have to wait?”
“....” Su Yi suddenly felt like this woman was really asking for a beating!
A moment later, he said, “You know what, tend to your injuries. Didn’t you say you wanted to fight me? You’d best hurry up.”
Lin Jinghong’s gaze instantly sharpened. “Alright! Just you wait!”
……
The Divine Replenishment Furnace soon returned with the spoils: a pile of sand-like grains of Undying Bright Gold.
Their quality was extremely high, the best Undying Bright Gold had to offer. The dead gods had left them behind—a clear indication of how extraordinary Undying Bright Gold was. Even after the epoch was destroyed and its gods perished, this material survived!
Su Yi divided the spoils into fourths. One-fourth, he kept for himself. The rest went to Xi Ning, Luo Tiandu, and Lin Jinghong.
The latter was startled. “Why share with me?”
“We fought together, shoulder-to-shoulder. It’s only right that you get your share,” Su Yi explained casually.
Lin Jinghong calmly accepted it. At least, she seemed calm on the outside. The quality of this Undying Demon Gold was so extraordinary that even she was moved.
Luo Tiandu and Xi Ning, however, were clearly more than a little uncomfortable. They hadn’t helped in any way. On the contrary, they were burdens; they’d had no choice but to seek refuge in the Divine Replenishment Furnace. They were embarrassed to accept so many of the spoils.
“You needn’t be so polite with him,” Lin Jinghong said to Xi Ning out of nowhere. “Even if he takes a blade for you, it’d be only just and proper.”
No one knew quite what to make out of that.
Su Yi’s heart stirred. “Have you perhaps realized something?”
Xi Ning looked at Lin Jinghong, too.
Only Luo Tiandu felt rather sour inside. Why even ask? Who could miss that A’Ning treats you differently from other men?
A crafty grin tugged at Lin Jinghong’s lips. “It’s not that I don’t want to tell you, but that I don’t have any specific answers. That said, I can guarantee that when she awakens her innate talent, she’ll understand the karma behind it all, as well as… the extraordinary connection between you.”
Su Yi’s eyebrows rose, and Xi Ning fell silent.
Both of them simultaneously recalled the karmic thread between them, the one the Book of Karma had tried and failed to divine. For a moment, both were lost in thought.
……
Three days later.
Su Yi, Xi Ning, and Luo Tiandu set off and left the Place Abandoned by Heaven.
Before they left, Su Yi and Lin Jinghong fought. Lin Jinghong suppressed her cultivation base down to the Great Unity Stage, making it a pure competition of the Grand Dao. Every strike contained their full strength, and they fought with such intensity that it seemed their lives were on the line.
The onlookers, Luo Tiandu and Xi Ning, were left wide-eyed and tongue-tied. They couldn’t imagine how the two of them could be so ruthless.
It was over in less than ten minutes.
It ended in a tie, but Lin Jinghong was incomparably displeased. She could tell that in the end, Su Yi had actually held back.
At the same time, she couldn’t help but sigh over his strength. She said that with his Great Unity Stage cultivation, Su Yi could contend with Lesser Gods, and that if he borrowed external power, he might well be able to kill them!
Xi Ning and Luo Tiandu were both shocked.
Xi Ning had initially believed that Su Yi might well have a chance of defeating Lesser Gods, but only after breaking into the Great Profound Stage. Luo Tiandu hadn’t believed that Su Yi would have any chance of killing gods in the Great Realm, period.
Now, the reality came as a shock to them both. Su Yi was only in the Great Unity Stage, but he was strong enough to fight and defeat Lesser Gods! If word reached the God Domain, it might well make even Heaven’s Chosen lower their heads in shame!
But although neither Lin Jinghong nor the two divine children knew it, Su Yi only used about eighty percent of his strength during their battle…

……
When Su Yi and the others set off, Lin Jinghong and A’Cai remained behind. They planned to cross the River of Epochs and leave for the God Domain when the Path of Divinity appeared.
Not long after they’d left the Place Abandoned by Heaven, Su Yi bade Xi Ning and Luo Tiandu farewell and set off for the Academy of Eternal Night alone.
The Path of Divinity would appear within the year. Xi Ning and Luo Tiandu needed to prepare and bring their respective attendants.
Su Yi had preparations to make too. At the very least, he had to tie up all his loose ends before the Path of Divinity appeared. That way, if anything unexpected happened when the time came, he wouldn’t need to worry about old friends in the Immortal Realm. No one would be able to hurt them in his absence.
……
Time slipped by. Soon, six months had passed.
After returning to the Academy of Eternal Night, Su Yi seldom ventured outside. When he wasn’t cultivating, he busied himself with various tasks, and his days were rich and productive.
Over these six months, word of the Path of Divinity increased in frequency. Everyone was paying close attention.
“They say that when the Path of Divinity appears, the Laws of the Immortal Realm will transform, and the gods will be able to get directly involved.
“I can see it already. When the time comes, Sovereign Venerate Su will face an unprecedented crisis! After all, he’s the Heretic Reincarnator, the one the gods do not tolerate!”
“Relax. I’m sure he knows even better than we do how dangerous it will be, and there’s no way he’ll just sit around and wait to die!”
“I have a strong premonition that when the Path of Divinity appears, the entire Immortal Realm will be in for enormous, unprecedented changes!”
“I don’t care about all that. I just hope… that Sovereign Venerate Su emerges victorious!!”
The world was in uproar. Dark currents churned beneath the surface. The Epoch Battlefield was now the hottest topic in the Immortal Realm.
And the person everyone paid the most attention to was, naturally, Su Yi!
Everyone knew that the gods would never let him go. The divine children wouldn’t spare him either, nor would his old enemies!
All of these enmities would erupt at once as soon as the Path of Divinity appeared!
