First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 2064 - Repaying a Kindness
Chapter 2064 - Repaying a Kindness
When they heard what Su Yi said, Daoist Master Endless Tribulations, the Ancient Upheaval God King, and the other rulers of forbidden zones fell silent.
A moment later, Daoist Master Endless Tribulations sighed. “That was then, and this is now. This time, you’re fighting all on your own, Fellow Daoist.”
The crowd was instantly in uproar.
Daoist Master Endless Tribulations hadn’t denied it! There was now no doubt that Su Yi was telling the truth. It really hadn’t been long since the rulers of the forbidden zones had suffered a massive setback on account of Su Yi.
This was far, far too surprising.
“I really am on my own this time,” said Su Yi, not at all flustered. “But if you think you can enter the Path of the Ancient Gods without me, you’re delusional.”
“Not necessarily,” said the Dipankara Buddha. He gestured to his disciple, Lian Sheng. “You aren’t the only one in this world capable of controlling the Epoch Spark. My closed-door disciple can do it, too. If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to try it.”
Su Yi laughed. “Ah, but what if I destroy the Epoch Spark?”
“....” The crowd fell silent. Had anyone else suggested such a thing, no one would have believed it. After all, this was an Epoch Spark!
But Su Yi was different. He was Li Fuyou’s reincarnation, and he controlled the power of reincarnation. Who could say that he wouldn’t really destroy the Epoch Spark if pushed to the brink?
“It won’t matter if you destroy the Epoch Spark,” Old Man Providence said out of nowhere. "So long as we can strike you down before Ancient God Ridge, it’ll be an act of immeasurable merit.”
“That’s right! Who cares about the Epoch Spark or the Path of the Ancient Gods? So long as we kill you, none of that matters!” Master God Tian Huang said with seething murderous intent.
“How do you see this, Fellow Daoists?” The Dipankara Buddha looked at the rulers of the forbidden zones.
“His life and death have nothing to do with us. We’re only concerned with the power of reincarnation and the Epoch Spark,” said Daoist Master Endless Tribulations.
The other rulers of forbidden zones nodded. They weren’t of this era, and their true bodies were still trapped in their forbidden zones of origin. They were desperate to use the power of reincarnation to escape captivity.
They didn’t care in the slightest whether Su Yi lived or died.
Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh dryly. “It wasn’t long ago that your emissaries gathered before the City of the Lost and clamored to invite me back to your territories as a guest. They were so warm and earnest, but look at you now!”
His voice was dripping with mockery.
“Fellow Daoist, as I said earlier, that was then, and this is now,” sighed Daoist Master Endless Tribulations. “Had you lowered your head then, how could this have happened?”
“It isn’t too late,” said the Guye Heavenly Maiden. “Submit now, and we’ll do our utmost to help you escape. What do you say?”
The atmosphere was instantly tense. If the rulers of the forbidden zones were dead set on helping Su Yi, fierce conflict was inevitable!
Su Yi swept his gaze across the crowd and shook his head. “Better to fight on my own than to entrust my fate to others. ‘Submission’ and ‘compromise’ invite nothing more than humiliation and oppression!”
With that, he threw back his head, drained his cup of wine, and said with an unrestrained laugh, “Besides, I’m a sword cultivator. I’m not afraid to die, so why would I be afraid of a few paltry threats?”
He stood there, leisurely and composed, as if the crowd didn’t even exist. His unparalleled bearing left even some of the gods sighing with admiration.
Even if they didn’t want to admit it, Su Yi’s courage really was extraordinary. It would have been dazzling in any era!
“Do you plan to fight, then?” The Dipankara Buddha’s eyes flashed, and his expression was grim.
The already tense atmosphere was instantly even more oppressive.
The gathered deities readied themselves for battle. All of them were raring to go!
An austere, murderous aura filled the nine heavens and the ten earths.
Su Yi took a step toward the ridge. “My chance at life lies in the Path of the Ancient Gods. Now, I’m going to open it. You’re welcome to try and stop me.”
A bundle of chaos flames rose over his palm.
This was the Epoch Spark.
Boom!
As if sensing the Epoch Spark, the distant Ridge of the Ancient Gods shook. Countless currents of turbulent spacetime surged forth, like raging tidal waves.
This scene shocked everyone who witnessed it.
The Master Gods and rulers of the forbidden zones frowned with seething murderous intent. They were ready and eager for battle!
None of them could tolerate Su Yi entering the Path of the Ancient Gods.
Earlier, they’d been locked in a staredown. All of them knew that the first to attack would become the target of countless arrows, beset on all sides!
But when Su Yi took action, the entire situation changed with him.
The Master Gods and rulers of the forbidden zones were ready to attack!
But it was as if Su Yi hadn’t even noticed. He continued ahead, entirely unperturbed, as if there were no one else around.
His sheer composure left many of the gods sighing over their own inferiority. They had to admit that, in Su Yi’s shoes, none of them could have remained so calm.
“Fellow Daoists, let’s attack together and capture him, then duke it out amongst ourselves. How about it?” The Dipankara Buddha clasped his fists and boomed as if chanting sutras.
A bronze lamp hovered before him, its terrifying aura sweeping out in waves, shaking heaven and earth.
“Very well.” Daoist Master Endless Tribulations nodded.
Everyone knew that if they fought amongst themselves now, they’d give Su Yi an opening to exploit, and it was highly likely that something unexpected would happen. That would give Su Yi a chance to flee!
Thus, the rulers of the forbidden zones agreed to the Dipankara Buddha’s suggestion without hesitation.
Boom!
The Master Gods and rulers of the forbidden zones all locked onto Su Yi. Terrifying pressure swept across heaven and earth. The more ordinary gods of the various camps couldn’t take it; the suffocating pressure forced them to retreat.
Su Yi’s footsteps halted.
That terrifying pressure was like a tidal wave or avalanche. It came crashing toward him in layers, making his entire body stiffen. Throughout his body, his qi almost instantly scattered.
It was just too terrifying! It was as if numerous divine mountains were weighing down on him at once.
Even when Su Yi activated the full extent of his Hidden Summit Realm cultivation base, he struggled to hold on.
These old-timers sure are as shameless as ever... Su Yi sighed to himself.
Fortunately, he’d never planned to fight them head-on with his own strength. If he did, he’d be no more than a moth to the flame. It’d be idiotic!
Sword cultivators weren’t afraid to die, but that didn’t mean they’d blindly overestimate themselves. Even a Greater God would have been doomed in his position, let alone someone who’d only just broken into the Hidden Summit Realm.
He’d yet to even become a god. How would fighting them directly be any different from suicide?
But just as Su Yi was about to fight back, something unexpected happened.
Boom!
A streak of fiery red light descended from the heavens, tearing the firmament asunder. The skies shattered on all sides, and an all-encompassing destructive power swept outward.
The gods had only just been about to attack, but when they saw this, their hearts were instantly solemn, and their pupils constricted.
What a terrifying aura! Who’s trying to intervene? What gall!
“You people really are shameless.” A soft sigh rang out, and a flash of red appeared on the battlefield. A rain of light scattered, then formed a slender, curvaceous figure, an extraordinary enchantress with snowy skin and waist-length white hair.
Luo Xuanji! The former ruler of the City of the Lost!
Uproar followed her arrival.
Su Yi’s eyebrows rose, and he sank into thought. He really was a bit surprised. His situation was incomparably perilous. He hadn't expected someone of Luo Xuanji’s disposition to have the courage to get involved.
But he still wasn’t sure what this dangerous, heartless woman was really after.
“Luo Xuanji, what are you doing?” Daoist Master Endless Tribulations said coldly.
He and the other rulers of forbidden zones naturally knew of Luo Xuanji’s existence.
The master of the City of the Lost, Luo Xuanji!
Many of the gods’ expressions shifted as they realized just who the beauty in red was.
“What am I doing?” Luo Xuanji approached, her steps light and airy. When she reached the middle of the battlefield, she jeered. “For better or worse, you too are rulers of forbidden zones, yet you’ve joined forces to bully a young man yet to become a god. Aren’t you ashamed of yourselves? You’re simply... disgraceful!”
She then turned and swept her gaze across the Dipankara Buddha and the other Master Gods. “And you! All of you are Master Gods of the present day, yet look at you! You’ve rallied such an enormous army and even joined forces, all to take down a junior. Should I say you’re as cowardly as a pack of rats, or should I curse your shamelessness?”
The gods’ expressions darkened considerably.
“I’ve seen no small number of shameless characters over the years, but I’ve never seen anyone as shameless as you lot,” said Luo Xuanji, not the least bit polite. Every word was barbed. “I’m actually quite curious. If the masses learned how despicable you ‘lofty and superior’ old-timers really were, what would they think? And what about your disciples and grand disciples? I’m afraid even they would be ashamed of you!”
She insulted them with such vitriol that even some of the Master Gods felt ashamed.
The gods of various camps exchanged glances. None of them had anticipated that the mysterious ruler of the City of the Lost had come here, not to claim a piece of the pie, but to speak up on Su Yi’s behalf!
“Enough!” Master God Tian Huang roared murderously, his eyes flashing like lightning. “Do you plan to stand beside Su Yi and become our enemy?”
The other Master Gods looked similarly unfriendly.
“No, I’m here to repay a kindness.” Luo Xuanji twirled a lock of hair growing near her temples. “Fellow Daoist Su is my benefactor. He saved my life. How could I possibly remain uninvolved after seeing him bullied by a pack of shameless old codgers like you?”
Everyone was completely bewildered. She’s ‘repaying a kindness?’ He... saved her life?
Still, that didn’t matter. What really mattered was that now, everyone knew that the former ruler of the City of the Lost was dead set on helping Su Yi!
“By yourself?” The Ancient Upheaval God King couldn’t help but jeer. “You overestimate yourself!”
Boom!
Luo Xuanji attacked directly, raising a slender, jade-like hand and striking the air. The Ancient Upheaval God King was sent directly flying.
His avatar of will cracked in numerous places, almost shattering on the spot!
The entire crowd was flabbergasted.
Practically simultaneously, a wisp of strange, taboo power surged out of the void and struck Luo Xuanji, making her delicate frame quiver. Her beautiful brow was racked with agony.
The crowd had been furious moments prior, but the sight instantly cleared their heads. Something wasn’t right here.
“Wait, that’s your true body!?” exclaimed Daoist Master Endless Tribulations.
The strange, taboo power that had cleaved into Luo Xuanji originated from the Laws of the River of Epochs. The more terrifying your cultivation base, the more terrifying the backlash.
Most of the rulers of the forbidden zones were trapped in their respective territories, but even if they weren't, the backlash meant that coming in person was just too dangerous. That's why both they and the Master Gods sent their avatars to do their bidding in their place.
But Luo Xuanji had obviously done it anyway!
“That’s right.” A radiant smile blossomed on Luo Xuanji’s extraordinarily enchanting face. “It was Fellow Daoist Su who helped my true body escape confinement in the City of the Lost. How could I let such an act of benevolence go unrewarded?’
She then turned, repressed her smile, and bowed to Su Yi with the utmost solemnity. “Fellow Daoist, this time, I’ll risk my life to repay your kindness and express my sincerity!”
