A few minutes earlier...

Regina thought things couldn't get any worse after getting humiliated by her husband and her secret lover before the entire family.

She entered the mansion, closely followed by her sister and made her way up the spiral stairs towards her rightful bedroom, when she heard the annoying voice of a security guard.

"Madam, you're not permitted to go there."

Regina slowly spun around, her sharp and narrowed eyes shooting invisible, fiery darts.

"And who are you to tell me not to go to my bedroom?" She eyed the well-built security guard from head to his glistening, polished black leather shoe.

"I'm just a security guard following orders, ma'am." The uniformed indoor security guard replied politely, while maintaining his stance.

"Well then, here's your new order, Mr Bonehead. As the legal wife of Senator Gregory Shawls and the lady of this entire mansion, I command you to get lost." Regina spat out between clenched jaws.

"Well said, sister." Pearl beamed proudly while also sizing up the guard with a ridiculing glare, expecting him to scurry away.

But to both their disappointment, he took a few more steps closer to them while speaking into his radio phone, calling for backup.

"Ma'am, I'm asking you nicely to please turn around and go back to the guest room. You are not permitted to go up there."

"What is the meaning of this harassment?" Pearl flared up, her patience worn out. "She just introduced herself as the senator's wife, and you're still standing here talking nonsense. Do you want to lose your job?"

"Pearl, allow me to handle this." Regina patted her on the arm as three more armed guards, two female and one male, showed up, their expression void of empathy. She took in a deep breath to stifle her ire and spoke in a more respectful tone, seeing that these guards meant business.

"Look here, I know you're doing your job. I also know you haven't been formally introduced to me. But trust me, you want to be on my good side. As the wife of the senator, I could change your life for good. All I ask in return is that you show me some respect and allow my sister and me to go to our respective bedrooms. Can you do that for me?"

"I'm very sorry, ma'am. But the senator has given me strict orders not to allow you or Madam Pearl anywhere near this place. I would advise you to go back to the guest room and wait for him to arrive so that you can address this issue with him."

"What!" Pearl glared incredulously at the guard.

"Fine!" Regina clenched her fist, her nose flared, and her face flustered with rage. "I will make sure you regret this. Consider you and all those fools standing there fired." She turned to her sister and said, "Let's go."

"This isn't right, sis. You are his legal wife, and he can't treat you this way." Pearl grumbled angrily.

"Don't worry. I'll take care of this once Greg returns."

"But I'm not going back into that smelly room." Pearl marched down the stairs, scowling at the other guards watching them.

"We could go to the dining room and have ourselves a feast," Regina suggested. "After all, the party was meant for us."

"Yeah..." The crease on Pearl's forehead slowly faded away at the thought of filling her stomach with something other than prison food.

"We might as well have ourselves a feast to celebrate our return, or are we also forbidden from eating?" Pearl turned her head around, sneering at the guard who didn't seem at the least offended by her statement.

"Of course not. The dining room is not a restricted zone."

"Fools." Regina hissed and left them.

While Regina and Pearl were busy devouring the meal on the table, they both heard the low, throbbing roar of something that sounded like a helicopter, which seemed to build momentum as it got closer.

"Your husband has finally lost it." Pearl snickered as she sank her teeth into her fourth tasty and well-spiced chicken thighs, the oily sauce smearing her upper and lower lips.

"Probably he has deployed more security men to watch us." Regina sighed, dropping her glass of wine. "I wonder what his plans are."

"I'm guessing we'll find out when he returns." Pearl picked up her glass of wine with her oily hands and downed the contents, burping noisily.

Just then, a maid, carrying the corn jelly dessert Pearl had requested earlier, walked into the dining room. She dropped it on the table and was about to leave when Regina asked.

"Did my husband just arrive in a helicopter?"

"No, madam. It was Madam Gwen."

"What!"

Both women chorused at the same time.

"My Gwen!" Regina sprang out of her seat, not bothering to wait for the maid's reply. She hurried out of the mansion, her heart slamming wildly against her chest in a feverish excitement.

Regina came out on time to see a white helicopter departing and the security men escorting a chubby blonde woman towards the security house.

Regina recalled Gwen informing her that she had gained a few pounds.

But she didn't expect it to be this much.

At the moment, it seemed as though Lillian had switched places with Gwen.

"Gwen...." Regina called out, uncertainty lacing her voice.

Gwen sharply spun around, only to see a slightly aged and skinny woman, dressed in one of her mother's old clothes, calling her name.

"Mom!" Gwen's voice was barely above a whisper as she squinted, staring at the mature woman, who looked like an older version of her mother.

The emergence of her Aunt Pearl, whom she recognised at once, confirmed that it was indeed her mother standing there.

A blend of sadness and euphoria washed over Gwen as she called out to her mother.

"Mom..."

When Gwen made an attempt to run over to her mother, she was immediately stopped by the somewhat harsh but polite guard.

"The search, Ma'am."

"Grr..." Gwen gritted her teeth in anger. _Just get on with it and be quick." She turned to her approaching Mom and Aunt. "Wait right there. I'll be with you shortly."

"Why is she going to the security house with that guard? Is this the new protocol?" Pearl asked and Regina shrugged in reply, anger sipping through her vein.

After she was done at the security house, Gwen hurried over to her mother, her arms open wide and her face lit with excitement.

"Mummy." She called out in her most adorable baby voice.

"My sweet angel." Regina braced herself to receive her two-hundred-pound plump daughter.

Forgetting that she was now four times her fragile-looking mother's weight, Gwen threw herself on her mother's, almost crushing her to the ground if it hadn't been for Pearl's swift intervention.

"Not so tight, baby. I can't breathe." Regina patted Gwen on the arm while struggling to take in air into her lungs.

"Sorry, Mom. I got so excited." Gwen freed her mother, beaming. She tried to embrace Pearl, but the latter quickly declined, grinning.

"Is good to see you, kiddo. You look very...fff ... fabulous," Pearl remarked, while gawking at Gwen's huge body.

"I know, I'm fat. Just spit it out and save me your necessary compliment." Gwen rolled her eyes at her aunt, hissing.

"Don't talk like that, baby. You still look very pretty." Regina stroked Gwen's chubby cheek.

"But you don't look so good, Mom. What did they do to you over there?" Gwen stroked her mother's slightly wrinkled face, shocked at how she had aged so quickly in less than a year.

Regina chuckles bitterly, shaking her head. "Let's not talk about that now. It will ruin the moment."

"I'm sorry." Gwen pouted.

"It's fine." Regina waved her hand dismissively, leading Gwen towards the mansion. "By the way, did you just take a helicopter ride home?"

A delighted smile broke out on Gwen's face as she replied proudly.

"Yes, Mom. It belongs to my new boyfriend."

"Oooo.... boyfriend." Pearl's eyes widened and her lips twitched, a mischievous grin spreading across her face as she eagerly waited to know who this unfortunate guy was.

"Hmm... Is this rich boyfriend the reason why you forgot to come pick me up from prison today?" Regina demanded in a slightly hurt tone. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"I'm so sorry, Mom. Honestly, I got carried away and I didn't realise time had gone by so quickly. I promise I'll make it up to you."

"And me too." Pearl chimed. "So about the boyfriend..."

"What about Uncle Matt and the others?" Gwen cut Pearl off.

"Is the party already over?"

"What party!" Pearl scoffed, cackling like a witch.

"If by party, you mean the shit show your degenerate of a father organized, then yes,

it's over." Regina spat out.

"Huh!" A crease appeared on Gwen's forehead.

"What your mother is trying to say is that your asshole of a father found a way to humiliate and kick out every member of his family while sending your grandmother to her grave."

"Ah!" Gwen's hands flew to her mouth, her eyes widening in excitement.

"Grandma is dead?"

"I hope so." Pearl hissed, entering the house.

Gwen's smile immediately turned to a frown.

"What exactly is Pearl trying to say, Mom?"

"The old witch fainted during a heated conflict between your fathers. She has been rushed to the hospital."

"Which hospital?"

"Why don't you call your brainless father and find out?"
