Chapter 117: Chapter 117: Sutton Group Will No Longer Need to Bow to Silas Sheffield

After dinner, Clara spent a few hours reading the books Mr. Cheney had brought her.

She noted down a few parts she didn’t quite understand, planning to ask Mr. Cheney about them during her next visit.

Silas Sheffield was handling work in his study, and the two didn’t disturb each other.

After finishing the books, Clara prepared to take a shower when there was a knock on the door.

Opening the door, she found Yvonne Sterling standing outside.

Clara asked, "Mom, what’s up?"

"Clara, the other day I mentioned wanting to move out, and you said you’d discuss it with Silas. How did that discussion go?"

So that was it.

Clara replied, "Mom, you can just stay here without worry."

Yvonne furrowed her brow, troubled, "But the old lady from the Sheffield Family..."

"Grandma always stays at the old Crestwood estate and doesn’t visit often. It’s fine."

"Alright then." Yvonne looked at her daughter with a hint of distress in her eyes, "Clara, Silas’s grandmother doesn’t like you. Won’t you be wronged staying at the Sheffield Family? I’m worried about you..."

"Don’t worry, Mom." Clara leaned gently against Yvonne’s shoulder, grinning, "Your daughter isn’t a pushover, and besides, I have Silas protecting me."

"Sigh..." Yvonne sighed and said no more.

...

Quinn Hughes received a text from the court and only then realized Clara had hired a lawyer to sue her, the case being defamation.

Upon seeing the text, Quinn’s brow furrowed deeply.

This Clara wasn’t she just a poor student? How could she afford to hire a lawyer from Veridian?

After all, the law firms in Veridian charge very high fees.

Quinn had consulted a lawyer before; the matter of instructing Jonah Shaw to post slander and buying views on short video platforms would cost at least twenty thousand if Clara sued and hired a lawyer.

And that’s just for hiring an ordinary small-time lawyer.

If she wanted a lawyer from a big law firm in Veridian, the fees would be exorbitant.

Quinn dared to do this back then because she figured Clara was just a poor student who couldn’t afford a lawyer, so she acted with impunity.

Recalling the last class reunion where Clara appeared with Silas, who she claimed as her husband, Quinn’s heart sank.

Could it be that the lawsuit this time was backed by Silas, who hired a lawyer for her?

Is Silas really her husband?

That’s impossible!

How could a man like Silas possibly marry Clara?

Even though at the last class reunion they appeared together as a couple, Quinn has never believed Clara truly married Silas.

She thought they were just putting on an act.

Furthermore, when she instructed Jonah Shaw to spread rumors, she didn’t know Clara had any ties with Silas.

Quinn was walking while looking down at her phone, reading the court’s case initiation text multiple times to ensure she wasn’t seeing things.

As she walked, she bumped into someone unexpectedly.

Quinn’s phone slipped from her hand and fell to the ground.

As she was about to bend down to pick it up, the person she bumped into was quicker, picking up her phone.

"Defamation?" Isaac Sutton’s voice carried anger, "Those online posts and videos slandering Clara, were you behind them?"

Quinn’s phone had fallen screen-side up, revealing the text.

Isaac, with his keen sight, glanced down and saw the message, reading "Clara Sterling," which made him immediately bend down to pick up the phone faster than Quinn.

"It wasn’t me, it’s a scam text!" Quinn panicked, reaching to snatch her phone back, "It’s a telecom scam!"

Isaac stepped back two strides, looking closely at the text message.

"Really? There’s even a link here." Isaac’s voice was as cold as ice.

"Don’t click!" Quinn was terribly afraid that Isaac would discover her misdeeds.

If Isaac found out that she had someone spread rumors about Clara, he would never let her off.

Alas, Isaac didn’t believe her excuses at all. His finger lightly tapped the blue link, entering the court’s site to see Clara’s submitted indictment and evidence.

Isaac’s expression darkened dramatically, his eyes filled with gloom.

The next moment, he grabbed Quinn by the throat, glaring at her with eyes blazing with fury.

"How dare you slander Clara and tarnish her reputation?" Isaac tightened his grip on Quinn’s neck, the veins in his hand popping.

"Cough... Cough..." Quinn gasped for breath, struggling to pry Isaac’s hands off, but to no avail.

Quinn’s face turned red, her mouth stammering, "Let go... Let go of me..."

Isaac forcefully tossed her aside.

Quinn landed on the floor, her head hitting the corner of a glass coffee table, causing blood to ooze immediately.

Isaac stood over her, looking down coldly, gritting his teeth as he said, "This time, I’m calling off the engagement, no matter what!"

Quinn sat on the floor, covering her wound, crying bitterly, "Isaac, you’re really doing this to me for her..."

"She’s the one I love the most. If you dare to bully her again, I’ll personally send you to jail to be with your dad!"

Upon hearing these words, Quinn’s face turned deathly pale.

Graham Sutton entered just in time to hear Isaac threatening Quinn, saying he’d send her to jail.

He bellowed in anger, "You ungrateful brat!"

Seeing Quinn on the floor, clutching her forehead, Graham was infuriated, glaring fiercely at Isaac, hurriedly helping Quinn to her feet.

"Girl, are you alright?"

Quinn, her eyes red from crying, bit her lip, removing her hand to reveal the wound on her forehead, sobbing, "I hit the table corner just now."

Seeing Quinn injured so badly, Graham was even angrier, unable to resist kicking Isaac hard.

"What kind of man hits a woman! You’re a disgrace to me!"

"I didn’t hit her!" Isaac was already angry, showing no goodwill even to his own father, "Why don’t you ask her what despicable things she’s done?"

Graham shouted, "No matter what she’s done, she’s your fiancée, your woman. How can you lay a hand on her?"

"Ha, she’s no woman of mine!" Isaac glared directly at Graham, gritting his teeth, "Today, I’m putting it down; I don’t acknowledge this engagement! I want it annulled!"

"I disagree!" Graham roared.

Isaac scoffed, "What if I say I’ve allied with Thea Tate from the Tate Family to ensure cooperation with us?"

"What?" Graham paused, surprised, "You mean the Tate Family in Crestwood?"

"Yes."

Graham calmed his anger, doubtingly asking, "Can you really make the Tate Family cooperate with us?"

"Of course." Isaac’s jaw was taut, his expression severe, "But... I have one condition, break off the engagement with Quinn Hughes!"

Graham’s brow furrowed deeply. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

The prospect of cooperating with the Tate Group was extremely tempting.

Everyone knew that the Tate Family was a prestigious family in Crestwood, with the Tate Group being second only to the Sheffield Group in Crestwood.

Now, with the Sheffield Group pressuring the Sutton Group, if the Suttons could collaborate with the Tates, they wouldn’t have to constantly look to Silas Sheffield...

But the Hughes girl now had no one to rely on, and he promised Old Hughes to take good care of her.

Graham pondered, caught in a dilemma.
