Chapter 167: Chapter 167: I’m Talking to My Wife—Is There a Problem?

Rose Sheffield is the kind of stunning beauty who captivates with her mere presence. Clad in a burgundy off-shoulder fitted gown with a mermaid design, she moves with an alluring grace.

Her facial features are striking and well-defined, with a high nose bridge, large eyes, and enchanting eyes that can captivate anyone. Her red lips are sensual, exuding an assertive and passionate beauty.

Such a beauty can make anyone infatuated and lost with just one glance.

The first time Clara Sterling met her aunt Rose Sheffield, she was overwhelmed by her beauty. Her gaze lingered on Rose’s face, involuntarily getting lost in thought.

"Clara, it’s our first meeting. Here’s a gift for you," Rose said with a smile in her beautiful eyes, handing over a bank card. "There’s ten million in it, just a little token from your aunt."

Clara snapped back to reality, "Aunt, that’s too much."

"Don’t worry about it, just take it. It’s just pocket money."

As she spoke, Rose took out a red velvet box from her limited edition Hermes bag and handed it to her. "This is a pigeon blood ruby necklace I recently bid on at an auction in Elaria. It’s a wedding gift for you."

Clara naturally couldn’t refuse Rose’s thoughtful gesture.

She accepted the necklace and bank card Rose offered, smiling as she thanked her.

"I had a good feeling about you the moment I saw you, Clara. If you ever need any help in the future, just let your aunt know. If Silas ever bullies you, I’ll deal with him," Rose said with a smile.

"Okay," Clara felt happy to be accepted by the Sheffield Family.

Beside them, Clara’s second aunt, Michelle Morgan, also held Clara’s hand with a smile and said, "Clara, I’ve prepared a gift for you too."

Saying this, Michelle took a bag with a designer logo from a nearby attendant and handed it to Clara. "This is a limited edition bag from C’s new collection. Open it up and see if you like it."

Clara accepted the bag. Since her second aunt asked her to open it, she obediently did so.

Inside the bag was a gift box. When she opened the box, she found a beautiful crocodile leather bag, white in color, which was versatile and matched well with her outfit today.

Clara’s eyes curved with her smile, and she thanked Michelle, "Thank you, Second Aunt. I really like it."

Michelle nodded in satisfaction, "I’m glad you like it."

After chatting with her second uncle and aunt, and her aunt, Silas Sheffield took Clara to greet some of the social elites of Crestwood.

Those important figures in politics and business that Clara had only seen on TV before, she now spoke to face-to-face.

Standing among these bigwigs, Silas was composed and eloquent, exuding grace and nobility in his demeanor, while Clara, walking beside him, felt her initial nervousness fade away.

Before the birthday banquet officially began, Silas introduced many notable figures to Clara, who remained composed and elegant with every gesture and smile.

"You did well tonight," Silas murmured into her ear, as they walked shoulder to shoulder after mingling with the social elites.

"I didn’t embarrass you, did I?" Clara smiled, her lips curling. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Silas looked at her warmly and said softly, "How could you embarrass me? My Clara is so beautiful and articulate, not losing to any socialite heiresses."

Clara smiled, her eyes curving as she slipped her arm through Silas’s. "The banquet is about to start. Let’s go find Grandma."

Silas nodded, "Mm."

The vast banquet hall was filled with tables, and waitstaff were orderly serving meals to each table from carts.

Guest seating was also carefully arranged.

The Sheffield Family and government officials had their seats in separate private rooms.

Relatives of the Sheffield and Xi families, and other guests, were seated at different tables based on their relationship proximity, with corresponding table numbers noted on the invitations.

Uniformed waitstaff guided guests to their designated seats.

This time, the Tates were invited to the birthday banquet.

The table allotted to the Tate Family was positioned close to the Sheffield Family’s private room.

When Silas Sheffield and Clara went to find Grandma, they had to pass by the Tates’ table.

As they approached, Thea Tate’s parents saw Silas and greeted him but blatantly ignored Clara, who accompanied him.

Thomas Tate smiled at Silas and said, "Silas, little Thea is working at your company. If she makes any mistakes, please bear with her. You two grew up together, after all, like childhood sweethearts."

Mrs. Tate also smiled and said, "Yes, Silas, ever since Thea returned home, she’s been fixated on you. When her father and I suggested she take over the family company, she refused and insisted on going to your place."

The couple came just short of explicitly stating Thea’s feelings for Silas, with Clara standing large as life before them, yet they treated her like she was invisible.

Thea was standing right beside her parents, having sought Silas earlier only to receive the cold shoulder, and now resorted to having her parents back her up.

However, the Tate couple never anticipated that if they treated Clara as though she were invisible, Silas would likewise regard them as non-entities.

Silas didn’t respond to the Tates’ words. Instead, he held Clara’s hand and turned his head toward her, asking gently, "Are you hungry? Would you like to eat something to settle your stomach?"

Clara shook her head, "I’m not hungry, let’s find Grandma first."

"Alright." Silas’s gaze remained fixed on Clara, not offering even a glance to the Tate couple.

Thea bit down hard on her back teeth in frustration.

The Tate couple’s expressions turned cold immediately.

Thomas Tate’s tone carried a hint of displeasure, "Silas, your uncle is speaking to you."

Silas let out a small laugh, curling his lips, "I’m talking to my wife. Is there a problem?"

For a younger person, Silas’s attitude was infuriating to Thomas Tate, making him seethe with anger.

He fought to suppress his inner rage and spoke through gritted teeth, "My daughter gave up inheriting the family company for you, taking on the minor role of deputy general manager at your company. You should look out for her."

Thea was the only child of the Tate couple. They had long hoped for a second child, but Mrs. Tate’s age and the health issues that lingered after giving birth to Thea made having another child impossible, with several attempts at IVF failing.

While they publicly claimed to regard Thea as their only cherished child and crafted a loving-daughter narrative online, those who knew them well were aware of how much they yearned for a son.

Thomas Tate was someone who placed utmost importance on face-saving. Despite Silas having already turned hostile towards him, he forced himself to swallow his anger and say these words.

On hearing this, Silas abruptly laughed, though his smile was ice-cold, as if a layer of frost had settled over his eyes. His gaze toward the Tate couple was chillingly cold. "Haven’t you heard? She’s already been fired."

"What?" The Tate couple was stunned.

Thomas Tate’s face darkened, "You fired Thea? Why?"

"Find out for yourselves." Silas completely disregarded them, saying so as he wrapped an arm around Clara’s shoulders and walked away.
