Flirted Wrong, Married Right-Chapter 810: Who’s Spreading Rumors
As Evelyn Clayton expected, when Pauline Warren found out that the person who died in the major car accident on the Aethelburg highway was indeed Jack Shaw, she visibly tensed up.
She first spoke individually with each servant in the house, ensuring that none of them brought up the online news in front of Sharon, then she started asking people to get peace charms for Sharon.
Peace charms had been sought for Sharon ever since she was born, with Pauline Warren having collected all sorts possible. There were no less than ten Jade Talismans just for her to wear, not to mention others.
The reason was simple: in her subconscious, Pauline Warren was still haunted by the death of her biological daughter. She went all out to "protect" Sharon using various methods.
On the day of the shareholder meeting, Evelyn Clayton got up early, preparing to visit and meet the major shareholders ahead of time.
Sharon was not awake at that hour. Upon entering the main building, Evelyn heard Pauline instructing the group of servants.
"These days, you are not to say anything in front of Sharon! The name Jack is not to be mentioned! Let alone all that nonsense online! Anyone who dares to bring it up won’t be working here at the Sinclair Family, understand?"
Pauline, usually kind and gentle, suddenly turned stern and repeatedly emphasized the matter, making everyone a bit apprehensive.
Evelyn felt a mix of amusement and helplessness, waiting for Pauline to finish her instructions before stepping forward.
"Mom, you don’t have to be so tense." Evelyn guided Pauline to sit at the dining table. "Don’t you know Sharon well? She is very mentally strong and mature for her age. Even if she accidentally finds out, it wouldn’t be a big deal."
Pauline cast a reproachful look at Evelyn, "How come you, as a mother, aren’t more attentive? No matter how mature Sharon is, she’s still a child! What does a child understand about life and death? In any case, we can’t let Sharon find out! Let’s wait until Shane handles it!"
Evelyn was at a loss whether to laugh or cry. Realizing her own carelessness, she decided to side with Pauline.
"Alright, I understand. I’ll head out with my brother now; there’s the meeting today."
As they spoke, Shane Sinclair also came down.
Evelyn grabbed a sandwich for breakfast, ready to leave with Shane. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Pauline hurriedly stopped Shane.
Shane was held back, and Evelyn, not noticing, left first.
Watching Evelyn’s figure disappear in the distance, Pauline grabbed Shane and whispered, "Shane, today at the meeting, Evelyn’s identity is bound to be revealed. Remember to remind everyone that Evelyn is our adopted daughter, not our biological one, understand?"
Shane instinctively felt something was off, "Is that necessary? Overemphasizing it might not be good..."
What if Evelyn overthought it and felt that they were rejecting her?
Pauline saw from her son’s expression what he was thinking and hurriedly said, "You’re misunderstanding, Shane. That’s not what I mean! But think about it. If people mistake Evelyn for our daughter who has always been living outside, wouldn’t that be worse? Besides, if we don’t mention Evelyn is adopted, what about the matter between you two in the future?"
As if struck by lightning, Shane stared at Pauline with caution and bewilderment, "Mom, what are you talking about? What do you mean, the matter between me and Evelyn?"
Pauline responded matter-of-factly, "About you liking Evelyn, of course! Oh, come on, Shane, I’ve known for a long time, so stop pretending!"
Shane’s earlobes visibly reddened.
He bit down lightly on his molars, feeling an unprecedented confusion and helplessness.
"Mom, who told you that nonsense?"
