Flirted Wrong, Married Right-Chapter 811: Willing to Accept Me
Seeing her son’s flustered expression, Pauline Warren pursed her lips and gave a sly smile.
Shane Sinclair looked at her expression and became even more overwhelmed, "It couldn’t be Evelyn who told you..."
"How could that be?" Pauline widened her eyes, "With your secretive crush, it’s a miracle if Evelyn even knows about it!"
It was at this moment that Shane Sinclair began to sense Pauline’s underlying implications.
He cleared his throat lightly, testing the waters, "Mom, you don’t oppose?"
"Why would I oppose?" Pauline beamed with joy, "I’d be thrilled! If you pursue Evelyn, what can that James guy do? And after you get married, won’t Evelyn be even closer to our family? Sharon could be my granddaughter-in-law officially!"
Pauline’s "wonderful vision" made Shane’s face inexplicably warm, and he averted his gaze, clearing his throat, "Mom, nothing’s even started yet, don’t say such things."
Pauline chuckled, "I know, you’ve rarely pursued girls proactively since you were young because you have high standards! Now it’s different, Evelyn is even more outstanding than you, you can’t stay on your high horse, wives won’t come just by waiting, understood?"
Shane’s face and neck turned red, and he avoided Pauline’s gaze, "Ahem, got it."
"Tsk, knowing isn’t enough!" Pauline discontentedly patted Shane’s back, "Show some attitude!"
Shane was on the verge of collapsing, "What kind of attitude?"
Pauline glared at him, "Tell me, when can you bring Evelyn home?"
Shane opened his mouth, wanting to say something but feeling powerless.
He could see that the connection between Evelyn Clayton and James Grant was deep and not something that could be easily severed.
Moreover, even if James could let go, Shane couldn’t guarantee Evelyn would accept him.
Thinking of this, a trace of indescribable gloom crossed Shane’s eyes.
Before Pauline could notice, Shane gathered himself and said, "Mom, don’t worry. If I make Evelyn aware of my... my intentions too soon, she might feel we’re just trying to have her marry into our family, which wouldn’t be good."
Pauline suddenly realized, "Right, right, you’re right about that. You must be careful!"
"Mm, I know." Shane smiled slightly, his resolve gradually strengthening, "If... if Evelyn is willing to accept me—"
Shane didn’t finish his sentence.
If Evelyn Clayton accepted him, he would give her everything he could.
"Brother, still not leaving?"
Having waited outside for Shane Sinclair for quite a while, Evelyn Clayton came in to ask in confusion.
Pauline, feeling a bit guilty, flashed a smile at Evelyn, "I was just reminding Shane to look after you today, don’t let those old shareholders at the company bully you."
As she spoke, Pauline patted Shane’s back again.
"Hurry up, what are you standing there for?"
Shane chuckled helplessly and headed out with Evelyn.
When they reached the garage, Shane and Evelyn got into the same car.
They hadn’t called for a driver today, so Shane drove himself. Remembering Pauline’s words on the road, he couldn’t help but glance sideways.
Evelyn was intently looking through her phone, her expression serious.
Shane felt a bit awkward but maintained his composure, "What are you looking at?"
"Looking at Jack Shaw’s autopsy report," Evelyn said in a grave tone, "I just feel there’s something not quite right about this."
Shane was taken aback, "What do you mean?"
Evelyn stared into a certain void ahead.
"Think about it. If Jack Shaw really died because of a car accident, then it suggests his car was tampered with. But I remember from the surveillance footage of the accident site, the event happened in an instant, and the car didn’t show any signs of brake failure. It seemed more as if... Jack Shaw suddenly let go of the steering wheel."
