Chapter 897: Chapter 496 Is the Starburst Array Moving?_2

“Cough!” With a dull cough, Anthony walked over and demanded with authority, “Can one inquire about a Lord’s name so casually?”

The inspecting Mage was startled; Anthony’s tone and majesty left no doubt that he was a high-ranking individual. What level of a high-ranking individual must he be?

The Mage hurriedly explained, “No, no, it’s because the guest invitations correspond to the guest etiquette, so we wanted to know the guest’s title to make the appropriate arrangements. However, if the guest prefers not to reveal their identity, they can also leave from the Magic Pillar; but activating the Magic Pillar requires arcane level magic. Anyone who can activate the Magic Pillar is among the most honored guests of Magic Star City.”

Grey leaned in and whispered, “It’s targeted at Magicians; Magicians rely too much on external forces and their own Magic Power isn’t strong. Either they declare their identity and enter the city in a straightforward manner, or they must rely on their strength to enter. Magicians would find it difficult to find someone with that kind of magic power. Such regulations weren’t in place before and are likely a new arrangement for the Magician’s Convention.”

“Then shall we go through the Magic Pillar?” Anthony asked, as Grey was more familiar with the place, so it was better to consider her opinion.

“Go through the Magic Pillar. If you don’t want to reveal your identity, wish to keep a low profile, and still want to enter through the VIP channel, the only way is through the Magic Pillar. Otherwise, we might not even know where we will end up,” Grey said.

This was indeed a problem; they were here to find the item that could break the Annihilation Boundary. If they didn’t take the VIP channel and got mixed up with ordinary people, they might miss a lot of information.

Having made up their minds, the group bustled toward the Magic Pillar.

Reaching what was called the Magic Pillar, everyone finally understood what it was—a Magic Crane capable of lifting the city walls. As long as they used Magic Power to drive it to lift the walls, they could enter.

“Very simple,” said the Lord of Terror, gesturing.

“How is that simple? How is that simple? Simple my foot, simple my foot,” Negris angrily slapped its own head, making a clanging sound—it was hollow.

“It’s simple yet difficult, purely a matter of Magic Power output, no tricks involved. Sometimes when it’s inconvenient for me, I don’t dare to pass through here. Of course, more often than not, I take the internal Teleportation Array,” Grey said.

Saying this, she eagerly approached the Magic Pillar and began to pour out her magic.

The Magic Crane squeaked and rose half a meter high but then stopped and began to slowly descend.

“That’s it? How do we get over when it’s so low? Crawl under?” Negris asked, puzzled.

Grey nonchalantly stepped back and said, “No, I was just demonstrating how to activate it.”

Negris pierced through her pretense with annoyance, “You couldn’t lift it, could you?”

Grey responded confidently, “I just recovered from a serious injury; it’s normal that I can’t lift it.”

Negris was left speechless. Did losing a limb or two count as a serious injury? Of course it did, so serious that it couldn’t be more severe. But now she was healed and it wasn’t affecting her performance.

Ange approached the Magic Pillar and unleashed his magic output, not breaking a sweat, and the wall smoothly rose to its highest point.

Everyone easily walked in as the wall slowly lowered behind them.

After following the passage and turning a corner, they saw over a dozen elaborately dressed staff members standing at the exit. As soon as they saw Ange and his group come out, they immediately began clapping and cheering, “Welcome, welcome, a warm welcome to Magic Star City. The Magician’s Guild is at your full service. Please, this way, everyone.”

All were stunned; Anthony and the others had thick veins popping on their foreheads. “Weren’t we told taking the Magic Pillar would be low key? What is this madness?”

Grey was also confused, “What’s all this nonsense? This never used to be here. What’s going on?”

She was finally starting to realize that Magic Star City was no longer the same as it had been during her time.

Having refused the enthusiastic hospitality of the staff and giving two of the guys black eyes, those who claimed to be from the Magician’s Guild finally quieted down.

A group of people climbed into the luxurious carriage and, following Grey’s directions, headed towards a certain location.

Passing by a small estate, Grey lifted the curtain for a look and immediately said, “Don’t stop, keep going.”

After they had passed by, Grey explained, “They’re not my people; the secret sign in the flowerbed at the entrance hasn’t been changed. I’m not sure if it’s been sold or overtaken by enemies.”

Anthony nodded, finding the warning method very effective. For example, flowers in a window signified that a lover was not home and one could sneak in; the absence of flowers meant it was inconvenient, and even different colors could represent different messages—highly practical indeed.

Following Grey’s further directions, they visited several other places, all either abandoned or occupied by strangers. At one location, there were people of unknown identity loitering nearby.

Anthony pinpointed the one on the farthest outskirts, approached them with the carriage, open the door, yanked the person onto the carriage, interrogated them, erased their memory, and then threw them out, all without the carriage needing to stop.

“It seems all your people have been taken away. Why is the name of your power so strange? Why is it a discussion group about truth? Shortened to True Research Group?” Anthony asked bizarrely.

Grey questioned, “Don’t you think it sounds nice?”

“Nice, nice, just as nice as ‘Full Bellies and Bloating Team’ or ‘Salted Fish Team,'” Anthony replied nonchalantly.

“We were just a group of Wizards seeking truth and organized as a mutual aid group; the name was chosen quite casually. Then, suddenly I had an epiphany, my magic improved by leaps and bounds, and more people joined us. One year, I refuted the truth of a Truth Mage at the Magician’s Conference, which led to the council inviting me to join as one of the five members.”

“I thought joining the council and becoming a member would make it easier for me to pursue the truth. But unexpectedly, a bunch of trivial matters came knocking at my door, consuming a great deal of my time each day, which finally drove me to run off on my own.”

“Alarocst was a friend I got on well with in the mutual aid group, so after I ran off, I went to his house as a guest. One day, after eating some fruit there, I passed out, and when I woke up, I was already wearing a Soul Banning Ring.”

“He was afraid I’d cast spells, so he cut off my tongue. I resisted many times, but each time I was stopped by a Swordsman who was always by his side; it was then that my hands and feet were chopped off.”

The Lord of Terror couldn’t help but speak up, “Was it the guy standing behind him on the flying carriage that day? That guy is quite weak, probably just a Great Swordsman. I scared him off later. How could he have hurt you?”

“With the Soul Banning Ring, I couldn’t utilize all my strength,” Grey explained. “I ‘saw’ him using a communicator to talk to someone about taking me back, claiming rewards and such. So, he took me with him, most likely to collect the reward.”

Now, looking back, all the places that belonged to Grey had been cleaned out by others, and what became of her subordinates, whether captured, killed or fled, was unknown.

As a loosely structured mutual aid group with Grey as the sole core, the organization collapsed when she disappeared.

Anthony couldn’t help but mock, “Is this some sort of child’s play for you? How can power struggles accommodate such sentimentality? You probably never even considered the possibility of being plotted against, did you?”

Grey smiled bitterly, “We were just a mutual aid group; who would have thought someone would target me.”

“You should have seen it coming the moment you refuted someone else’s truth. Even inviting you into the council was deliberate. Oh, the naivety of children these days,” Anthony lamented.

“Let it be. Children don’t understand things; just be more careful in the future,” Silver Coin mediated.

But everyone knew that some things have no future. If it weren’t for fortunate circumstances leading her to Ange, even if she were rescued by someone else, her life would be ruined.

Just then, Luther, who was driving the carriage outside, suddenly knocked on the cabin and said, “Uh, everyone, take a look outside. Do you see the Starburst Array moving?”

Peering out, they saw the Starburst Array hanging in the sky, starting to shift at a very slow pace.
