Chapter 898: Chapter 497: Suddenly Reach Out Forward
After a night of adjustments, the Starburst Array’s firing direction was aimed at Magic Star City. All night, everyone here could barely sleep, constantly keeping an eye on the movements of the Starburst Array.
Once it was confirmed that the Starburst Array was pointing towards Magic Star City, whoosh, almost all the dignitaries and high-ranking officials had fled, at the very least moving away from Magic Star City to the surrounding satellite towns to watch and wait.
“Shouldn’t we… shouldn’t we run?” Grey asked anxiously.
Starburst Array, oh Starburst Array, that was a terrifying force that even the Undead King dared not face head-on. Why were these people not the slightest bit nervous?
Negris curled his lip, “We’ve been bombarded before, what’s there to be afraid of?”
Grey’s face twitched. Bombarded by the Starburst Array before? How could the present-day dragons brag without blushing? Could it be that their scales covered their shame?
The God of Life poked out, speaking slowly, “There is no energy reaction.”
That was the main reason everyone was not in a hurry. The seeds of the God of Life had already extended into the Starburst Array. Whether there was an energy reaction was something that could be sensed. Such a large Array would take a long time just to accumulate energy to fire, so it couldn’t possibly blast them suddenly.
However, the fearsome reputation of the Starburst Array meant that those who had not been hit by it were only preoccupied with fear, unlike those who had been hit and remained so composed.
Pointing the Array toward Magic Star City out of the blue, what in the world were these magicians up to?
The same question also plagued the hearts of the Magic Star Council members.
In the council chamber, Lachie, the president of the Magician’s Guild, frowned and asked, “Does this thing even exist? Something that can breach the Annihilation Boundary, what is it exactly? It’s not just a rumor, is it? Are we provoking the Sorcerer Alliance over a rumor?”
The president of the Magical Equipment Association, Lester, had a very ugly expression and seemed reluctant to answer the question.
“Lester, don’t pretend you didn’t hear me. Does such a thing exist or not!” Lachie was dissatisfied with the reaction and shouted harshly.
Reluctantly, Lester said, “It exists.”
“Really?” The other three people present perked up simultaneously, and Lachie exclaimed with excitement, “If it really exists, then offending the Sorcerer Alliance wouldn’t be such a big deal. Others may fear this thing, but we don’t. If push comes to shove, we can scatter. It can only hit a fixed target, and it consumes a massive amount of energy. I don’t believe they would waste the power for a Starburst on us.”
After speaking, Lachie then said to Lester, “So what exactly is it? Bring it out. If you want us to share the risk, then you have to share the gains. Bring it out.”
Lester’s expression twisted as if his heart was bleeding, “It’s gone.”
“Gone? What do you mean?” Lachie was taken aback.
“Just what it sounds like, gone, disappeared, no information!” Lester said impatiently.
He had been unable to contact that fool for three days and didn’t know whether the fool had run off with the item or had met with some accident; in any case, there was no trace left, as if vanished into thin air.
The people Lester had arranged to stay close to that fool also had no information. He didn’t know if they had been discovered and silenced or had betrayed him together.
Lester didn’t even know how the news of the Annihilation Formation’s deciphering had been leaked, how Lachie had come to question him, or how Lachie had found out.
Originally, he was prepared to suffer in silence. After all, only he and that fool knew about the affair. With the other party missing and his own silence, who else would know he had quietly attempted such a thing?
“How did you find out about this matter?” Lester asked.
“The Sorcerer Alliance sent a diplomatic ultimatum, demanding that we hand over the item that can decrypt the Annihilation Boundary, or else we’d be declaring hostilities against the Sorcerer Alliance.” Lachie was itching with anger, but Lester wasn’t his subordinate so he couldn’t command the latter.
“A diplomatic ultimatum from the Sorcerer Alliance? Do they have any evidence that we have such an item? Couldn’t you just deny it?” Lester said.

Lachie became even more infuriated when it came to this, “I did deny it. So, they turned the Starburst Array this way and said that tomorrow… today, they would come to find us in person.”
As his words fell, Magic Star City raised a piercing air raid alarm.
Everyone went outside and looked up to see a Magician’s Ladder slowly descending from the sky.
“Activate the Magic Mask!” Lachie ordered loudly.
The Sorcerer Alliance was strong, but their descent from the heavens directly above Magic Star City showed an utter disregard for the magicians.
Without needing Lachie’s command, the Magic Mask was always active; it just operated at the lowest level when not under attack. Now, following Lachie’s order, the Magic Mask immediately ramped up to full power, and the originally transparent barrier swiftly transformed into a light blue sheen.
The descending Magician’s Ladder paused momentarily, its three hanging rings slowly rising, shifting from dangling ‘umbrellas’ to propped-up ‘umbrellas’, and then the three rings plummeted sharply, fast reverting to their dangling state.
This change in the rings released a wave visible to the naked eye, ring after ring, striking the Magic Mask.
The semi-transparent blue barrier quickly deepened in color from light to dark, from blue to yellow and then to red before bursting like a popped bubble.
The residual force of the ‘wave’ hit the ground, exploding with a resounding boom, boom, boom, and the entire Magic Star City vibrated like a drum skin being struck, jumping wildly several times.
