Forever Destined to the Silver Shadow-Chapter 282: On the raft
Theo’s POV:
"Ivory..?!" the little me whispered her name. "Your name is different—and pretty—"
The little girl smiled at me for the third time, and I felt something strange in my heart. What am I feeling? This has not happened to me before. I immediately turned my gaze away from her in fear and looked at the deep blue ocean before me.
"Are you scared of me?" the little girl asked.
I chuckled nervously. "Sacred?! Me? Not at all!"
"Then why are you not seeing my face?"
Oh my! This girl might look pretty, but she is also dangerous. I can’t deal with this girl anymore. It is better to go back to my room and sleep instead. I turned my back to her and was about to walk towards the bright sapphire crystal castle that was not sparking under the moonlight.
"So you don’t want to cross the sea?" the girl said and stopped me.
How did she know about my plan? Could she read my mind like the big Siren girls here do? I let out a sigh and turned back to the girl. She was smiling at me more than ever. There it was again!
"Do I look funny to you?" I expected that, at least now, she would stop smiling. But she didn’t!
"Yes, you are," she chuckled softly. "If you decide to do something, then you shouldn’t give up—"
"But how do you even know that I want to cross the sea?"
"Come on! It is obvious from the look on your face that you want to see the other side of the sea?"
I wished that this girl would stop mocking me and leave me alone. But she had a point! I shouldn’t give up. I should find out who my father is! Yet, I didn’t know how I could cross this sea. I glanced at the pretty girl who had now finally stopped smiling. Maybe she knows how to cross this sea. She also seems intelligent!
"Ummm... Ivory?" I blurted. "Do you know how to...how to..."
"Cross the sea?!" She finished the sentence for me. "I know how that could be done!"
She sounded so confident that I believed in her immediately. The strange feeling in my heart returned when she held my hand and dragged me from that spot. Oh my! Even Cynthia doesn’t scare me as this little did.
She took me half a mile away from the castle. I have never been to this spot before. I froze at sight before me. There was something floating in the water near the shore. The little me had never seen such a thing before. The strange feeling in my heart got converted into curiosity by seeing that thing.
"What is this?" I gasped while looking at that thing.
"You really don’t know?" the little girl was surprised. "This is a raft! And I came to this island yesterday on this—"
My curiosity reached its peak. Can someone ride on this thing?! But why didn’t Cynthia tell me about this raft thing?! She is now teaching me how to read and write. She is not only my mother—but also my teacher. Maybe she forgot to tell me about this! Or maybe she didn’t want me to know such a thing existed. I felt grateful to Ivory! She taught me something that I didn’t know.
The little Ivory climbed up on the raft and picked up a long stick that was on it. The stick seemed to be very heavy, and she didn’t seem to have the strength to lift it. I should help her! I immediately got up on the wooden surface of the raft and grabbed the heavy stick from her. Even though it was heavy, I was able to move it.
"You are so strong," Ivory complimented me for the first time ever. "I think you are strong enough to row the raft too—"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I thought that it was the best day of my life! I was doing something beyond my imagination. I am actually moving this raft on the waters with the help of this stick! I cursed myself when I called it a stick again! This is not a stick! Ivory had told me that this is an Oar.
I glanced at the raven-haired girl who was now seated on the center of the raft. She had arms wrapped around her legs, and it looked to me as if she was shivering from the cold. I wanted to help her, but I couldn’t remove my only cloak and give it to her. Then I would start shivering too! I was so relieved when the sun started to rise up in the sky slowly. The pretty don’t have to shiver anymore!
I expected to see the shore once the sun above started to burn the waters with its rays. But my eyes were only able to see the light blue-colored waters. I started to get exhausted after a while. My arms ached, and my feet were burning. It got harder and harder for me not to show off my exhaustion before the pretty girl.
Soon my efforts to hide my struggle failed. The girl realized that I could literally faint any minute. She then got up from the raft and held my arm. The strange feeling did return back in my heart, but my weary body was too tired to acknowledge it.
"You should really take a break," she said.
I obeyed her immediately and placed the Oar on the raft. We both sat down, facing each other. I wanted to know more about this pretty girl.
"Ivory, where are you from? Why did you come here?" I asked her.
"I came here cause I am a Siren...."
I didn’t understand her words. If she were a Siren, then how could she have been somewhere else for this long? Cynthia told me that all the Sirens lived here on this island. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"Even though I am a Siren, my parents are Mages."
"What? Your parents are Mages?!" I gasped in surprise.
"Yeah! They expected me to become a warrior Mage—but I had no powers for that."
I have never been this shocked in my entire life. How does a Mage have the powers of a Siren?!
"I always knew that I was different from everyone else," she went on. "I was able to convince others just with my words. A few days ago, I realized that my destiny was different from that of everyone else. The Moon Goddess had marked me the day I was born to serve her. After knowing the truth about me, my parents sent me to this island."
Then I understood what Cynthia had told me a few days ago. She said that the Sirens are not born, but they are made. The Moon Goddess herself chooses the girls who are worthy enough to serve her. Once the girl accepts to serve the Goddess, she is given the powers of the Siren.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Ivory lifted her eyebrows. "Did you assume that Sirens are born like other entities?"
"No, I know exactly how Sirens are made. My mother had told me about that."
"You have a mother?" she gaped. "Who is your mother?"
"The Siren Queen is my mother! I want to know who my father is. That’s why I want to cross this sea—"
She brushed off the sweat from her forehead and said, "I am sorry to break this to you! But the Siren Queen is definitely not your mother. Your parents must be of different kinds like mine!"
What is she saying?! Perhaps this heat has made her go crazy. "Queen Cynthia is my mother! She is the one who raised me ever since I was a child—"
"But she could not have given birth to you! If she did, then she would not be alive now!"
I blinked at her in confusion. "What are you saying?"
"You don’t know that Sirens die immediately after they give birth?! That’s why Sirens are not born but made—"
This is new! And Cynthia hid this from me just like she hid the raft from me. Why is she manipulating me? Then it struck me that I also need to find out who my birth mother is. If Cynthia is not my mother, then who could it be?!
I looked at the intelligent girl before me. She seems to know about a lot of things, unlike me. She was lucky that her parents weren’t manipulative like Cynthia.
"Ivory," I breathed out. "I need to know who my parents are! Once we reach the land, I will need your help in finding out about them. Can you help me?!"
"Of course," she smiled. "You are cute! So I will help you."
I shuddered again. Does she think I am cute?! But she is not the first one to say that to me. A lot of Siren girls had already told me that I am cute. When this girl said the same thing to me, the strange feeling in my heart returned.
Whatever! I can deal with this feeling later. For now, I should know who my parents are!
