Chapter 294: A good father

Edwin’s POV:

The serpent girl lent out her hand to me and flashed a gorgeous smile at me. Even though the man in me told me to accept the hand of this beauty, my brain told me to stay alert. I can’t let my guard down to this girl, no matter how gorgeous she looks.

Control yourself, Edwin! Don’t fall to her charms. I moved a step back from the pretty girl with a heavy heart. I was embarrassed by my own bodily reaction towards her charms. Then I understood the reason for this. I haven’t touched any other girl ever since I fell in love with Celestia. And that is why I am desiring to be touched by this beauty at least!

The Serpent girl raised her eyebrows at my reaction and said in a very low tone that almost sounded like hissing. "Are you afraid of me, dear?"

I blinked at her and immediately looked at the King who was giving me icy glares. Maybe he is irritated that I insulted his mistress/friend.

"Edwin, you can give your hand to her. She is not going to bite you," the Fae King roared.

I was surprised that he even said that. Who would let another man touch their mistress?! Or maybe she is not his mistress at all. Their connection must be political. I felt ashamed for prejudging the King! Then again, I wondered why our righteous Fae King has a political connection with a shadow creature. He is supposed to protect us all from the dark side! He can’t have allies there!

"Edwin..." the King roared again, and I hesitantly gave my hand to her. God! Her fingers were smooth like that of silk.

"It is nice to meet you, dear," the Serpent girl smiled. I smiled back at her nervously, just for the sake of the King! He didn’t seem to like it when I disrespected this girl.

She let my hand go after a while and glanced at the King. "He seems like a coward to me. Are you sure that he will be of any help to us?"

The Fae King sighed a little and said, "He is not usually like this. He is one of the best warriors I have. He is even better than my own son. But today he is behaving strangely, and I don’t know the reason for that—"

What?! I am the one who is acting strange? I want to scream at the King or even hit his head slightly to bring him back to his senses and tell him that he is the one behaving strangely here. I doubted if he was even our King. What if this one is an imposter?

"Fine," the Serpent girl shook her head. "Now tell me if he is willing to do the deed of taming the Dawn. I heard that she has no powers in her body now. She is just a half-vampire now! So I think that this handsome warrior boy is enough to tame her—"

I rubbed the back of my neck when she called me handsome. But that wasn’t me! That was the man in me doing that while I was wondering why I should tame Celestia.

"What exactly do you mean by taming?" I asked out of curiosity.

The serpent girl rolled her eyes. "Are you seriously not aware of what it means?"

"No, what does that mean?"

She then gave a hopeless stare to the King as if asking him why he had assigned me for this task. "Your highness, are you sure that this man is not a virgin?"

"No, I am not," I almost shouted out of embarrassment. "I have had many lovers—"

"Then why are you acting as if you are a ten-year-old boy?!"

My face reddened when I realized what exactly they were talking about. They are asking me to tame Celestia. Does it mean that I would have to do it ..... No! That is not possible! I must have misunderstood their message.

"By taming, do you mean that I would have to convince her as a friend?" I stressed out the last word on purpose.

"No," the girl snapped. "You are supposed to tame her in the way a man would tame a woman—"

I didn’t like where this was going. Are they actually telling me to assault the girl I love? And I can’t believe that a father would tell someone to do this to their daughter.

"Your highness, please tell me that a dark spirit has possessed you and is saying these things to me because of that!"

Even before the King could give me a reply, the Serpent girl interrupted. "Your highness, I told you that no Fae would agree to this. Only the exiled Incubus prince Aaron can do this deed."

"But he already failed in his task once," the King argued. "And you need to understand that this is all your fault, Lyra. You gave such a huge task to that dim-witted Incubus. They had a good chance to tame the Dawn in the woods. But they failed in that and lost their damn lives—"

I couldn’t believe my ears. So it was the King who ordered the Incubus to attack Celestia?! And all this time, he acted as if he was worried about his daughter’s safety?! This is absurd! It looks like he is not possessed by any dark spirit. His soul must be dark! That is the only explanation for this. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"Why are you doing this?" I shouted and turned their attention to me. I was surprised that I was actually yelling at the man whom I worshipped like a deity all my life. A little part still refused to believe everything that I saw and heard. What if this is all an illusion and not reality?!

"Edwin," the King said. "You will understand me when you have children of your own. You will know how hard it is to raise them in the way you want. And no matter what you do to them, they always end up going in the wrong direction and backstab you when you need them the most. But a good father will do anything and everything to keep their children on the right path, even if it means that he would have to hurt their children a little—"
