Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime-Chapter 969: Big Catfish_1
Chapter 969: Chapter 969: Big Catfish_1
At 3 p.m., friends began to trickle in to Purple Summers’ new home.
The move to a new home required friends to help warm the house, gathering social and financial energy.
Aria Jackson, Zara Jameson, Jane McCain, and Allen Rivera and others all brought gifts.
Second Young Master Graves was also there.
Purple invited Gavin Graves and Gerald Graves to her wedding, but Gavin didn’t show, which she thought was normal. She heard that Gavin was about to take over as family head and was probably very busy, right?
Furthermore, Marcel Jefferson hadn’t come either; he and Larissa Hamilton were still on their honeymoon and hadn’t returned.
Then there was Jane McCain. She originally planned to bring her husband, but it seemed they had an argument, and Jane arrived alone, clearly upset.
During that time, her husband called twice, probably trying to coax her, but Jane rejected the calls. Eventually, annoyed, she turned off her phone.
Jane McCain, when her temper as a young lady flares up, is impossible to persuade otherwise.
"I told him before I came back to the country that we should attend the wedding together!" Jane said with puffed-up anger. "He agreed readily enough, but when the time came, he told me something urgent came up and he couldn’t make it! What was he so busy with before?"
"Hey, didn’t he say it was something urgent?" Zara tried to calm her down. "Look, Ryan Wesley didn’t make it either, right? Is military training really more important than Purple’s wedding? But he insisted he couldn’t break the rules and simply refused to come."
Jane was still angry, because it wasn’t the first time this had happened.
Things were fine when they were abroad, but once back in the country, every time she wanted him to meet her friends and relatives, he would find all sorts of excuses. How could Jane not be irritated?
However, today’s visit was to congratulate Purple on her marriage and housewarming, and Jane didn’t want to dampen her friends’ spirits.
Just then, Purple called everyone over for a barbecue, so Jane cast aside her troubles and joined in with a cheerful demeanor.
Barbecues are always more delicious when grilled personally. The platters were filled with various types of meat marinated in advance by Aunt Taylor, mostly beef and chicken, and there was a full range of vegetables ready for grilling to one’s liking.
Alexander Summers stood in front of the grill with the air of a master chef, looking the part.
Purple and Aria were chopping fruit on the side, preparing to make fruit salad.
Jane McCain and Zara Jameson joined the barbecue crew, enthusiastically placing some chicken wings on the charcoal grill, brushing on seasoning sauce, and listening to the satisfying sizzle of the oil.
Allen Rivera and Gerald were the most relaxed, sitting under the parasol, just waiting to eat.
Purple peeled a tangerine and threw the peel into the charcoal grill. The citrus scent mixed with the aroma of the meat wafted out, making everyone’s mouth water.
Jane, tempted, asked, "Is there any fish? I fancy some grilled fish!"
"Yes, there is!" Aunt Taylor, hearing her, immediately handed over some skewered fish. "We have sweetfish and saury."
Purple laughed, "We went fishing by the lake this afternoon and caught a catfish spirit! It was at least 3 meters long, with a head this big!"
She gestured grandly with her hands.
"Really? A fish that big exists?" Jane was astonished.
"It must be a giant catfish," Allen chimed in. "If it’s that creature, 3 meters isn’t considered big; the largest giant catfish are at least 5 meters or more."
Jane was even more surprised, "Allen Rivera, the prosecutor, has studied biology, too?"
Allen Rivera smiled faintly, "Not really studied, just happened to encounter a dismemberment case where the culprit used the catfish’s propensity for swallowing entire subjects to dispose of the body. Aria Jackson, the officer, has seen it too."
"Yeah, that catfish can eat quite a bit," Aria added nonchalantly.
Jane: "..."
Suddenly, she lost her appetite...
Zara gently nudged her, "Why the daze? Watch out, or it’ll burn."
"Oh..." Jane came back to herself, flipping the skewers over.
She couldn’t help but silently grumble: The woman who ends up spending her life with Allen Rivera must have a really strong heart...
