Chapter 125 - Voiding The Truth

Every single strike sent a wave of shock through the souls of every witness.

Elijah – adeptly weaving and just barely dodging each metal club that was swung his way, punched with the power of a wrecking ball that created massive divots inside the chests of the orc's.

"You're welcome." Joffrey's sword that grew a red and orange hue was easily able to slice off the arm of a muscular orc aiming to bash Elijah's head in. However, in that moment, a second club from another orc came their way, which was stopped by a condensed beam of fire shot from thirty feet away.

"Five"

"Six"

"Seven"

Elijah counted each devastating punch that was followed by a splash of water to throw off the vision of the beast next in line. A symphony of strikes was taking place between Songa's sword of wind that cut through everything just as easily as Joffrey's sword of heat that cauterized every open vein it dismembered. Even Kithus, a boy that seemed like he would be out of breath was simply touching a beast and watching it explode in a matter of seconds while backing away.

Kithus was becoming known as the 'elusive lunatic'.

The dark red blood was not just painting their bodies, but their souls while hardening each one into a seasoned warrior.

With every Orc down for the count, a conversation quickly erupted, one with intensity.

"You! You are hiding your power!" Songa was furious and began running back to the carriage, although deep down, she knew he didn't just have a water affinity based on the corpses of the embergator's.

"I didn't want to reveal all of my cards. I hope you understand that."

"What in the gods do you mean?! You have no reason to hide anything from the kingdom! What could you possibly be worried about?" Joffrey exclaimed.

Before Elijah could reply again, Kithus cut in. "I agree with you Elijah. The world is a dark place."

Based on the conversation, Elijah assumed Joffrey and Songa were bred in some of the best parts of the Kingdom. Kithus on the other hand, was someone from the outskirts, someone who had to claw at every opportunity he saw.

With Kithus' help, the argument was deescalated as the mission continued on foot. Songa was in the front taking the lead while Joffrey stood guard in the rear alongside Daniel.

A few groups of beasts were found along the way to the beginning of the peak, all of which seemed like they were communicating with each other.

The Peak of Mammalia as the people described was one of the best sights for anyone to see. That was until it became overrun with beasts to the point of people paying a high price for guardsmen. However, this all became restricted as a recent caravan was slaughtered. Four Protectors of the knight rank, all of whom were close to each other, were slaughtered in unknown ways. Of course, everything was assumed by the simple fact of no one returning and no bodies being found.

Now, the task was put onto Songa as an investigation mission. However, deep down, she knew the higher ups knew more than they were letting on. How could you give an unknown investigation mission to two knights? If anything, they should bring as much power as possible because of the unknown threat level. At least a captain...

So far, the caravan had come up with 42 orange beast cores of relatively the same size, 12 yellow beast cores which would have been more if Elijah hadn't completely destroyed them, and 87 red beast cores.

By now, Elijah assumed there was a rune of weightlessness on the massive cloth bag holding the runes, as Daniel was only breaking a sweat because of the incline.

"Elijah. What do you think of the situation?" Songa asked with a straight face.

"Beasts have no way of communicating with each other unless they have an ability that allows it right?"

"Yes."

"I believe these beasts are being controlled. That is the only explanation for their coordinated attacks." Elijah spewed facts while also knowing these beasts could simply be communicating with each other.

Songa, Joffrey, Kithus, Daniel, and Niko all chipped in while finishing the incline, and came to the same conclusion. The orc's were the biggest giveaway — considering their weapons that had to have been made specifically for them

In front of their eyes was a cliffside with a massive cave entrance that had been covered up a long time ago by earth mages. Now however, this cave was wide open, with hints of fresh burns and scorch marks on the round and dark chasm.

"We need to leave now. Quick!" Songa changed from her annoyed mood to a worried mood within seconds. She even started to run at a speed which made it difficult for Elijah and Niko to stay close to. Kithus had not a single problem as he relished the comfort of Joffrey's brute arms while being carried like a princess bride.

"What is the meaning of this!" Elijah asked while out of breath. It had been a long time since they had passed the carriage with two cycles of running and walking. Elijah seriously thought about taking Niko and flying to safety.

"They never should've put us on this mission! If we would've gone any farther we all would've likely died." Songa tiredly said while eyeing the farmlands in between Coriad and Sefrah.

"Why?!" Elijah wanted answers for a waste of his time.

"Don't worry, I have seen enough of your talent, you will both be knighted into the adventure guild."

Niko butted in to softly talk to Elijah. "We should be happy Elijah. We got to see more of the Kingdom as well as securing our place as adventurers."

"I don't like when the truth is hidden from me. These special abilities Kithus and Joffrey have, it's as if they have reincarnated just like us... With special powers as well!"

Light footsteps and a not so nice smell erupted from behind Elijah and Niko while talking. "Have you ever heard of the Monolith of Power?"

"Kithus! N-no we have not." Elijah slightly hesitated while staring into his eyes.

Kithus quickly explained that the powers himself and Joffrey have stem from what the people call, The Monolith of Power. A sacred stone monolith that is said to have come from the gods before they had died. As Kithus explained, the truth became clear as day – albeit with a caveat that made him worry for anyone willing to engage in such an act. Kithus had received his explosion power from the monolith, but only after receiving a flaw that crippled him. In fact, the kid did not let any truth stand in his head while explaining how he had four flaws from four different attempts at gaining power!

The reason for Kithus' special circumstances was because his will was unwavering. He may not be showing it now, but the boy is perfectly okay with putting his life on the line when it matters. A dream for power plagued his mind as a kid, and caused him to receive three flaws before finally receiving his power.

WIth the guarantee of a flaw with every attempt at gaining power, there are few who dare to step up to the plate.

The walk back to the farmlands where they had commandeered a carriage for a decent sum had resulted in many questions being answered – mainly about the dynamic of the power system that allows the kingdom to hopefully create powerful soldiers capable of protecting.

However, there is one question that has yet to be figured out. A question that he will not ask as Songa's mood is obviously sour.

What is the state of the entire outside world?
