From Evil Sect Leader to Doctor-Chapter 298 - 273: Burning Down the Base
Hua Zhuyue looked at the three black bears approaching her and felt a bit panicked. She even thought about turning around and running back; at least there was an iron gate behind that could block them.
Xu Chunliang's voice came from behind the bears: "Hey!"
The three black bears turned their heads, and Xu Chunliang waved his hands, suddenly lifting a clod of dirt and throwing it at the largest black bear.
The dirt smashed against the black bear's head, shattering into pieces. The black bear shook its head, and its black fur stood on end with anger.
Xu Chunliang hit it with another throw, thoroughly enraging it. The bear clumsily turned around, roaring as it charged at him again, while the other two bears rushed towards Hua Zhuyue.
Xu Chunliang faced the challenge head-on, choosing again to confront the largest black bear. The black bear had its mind set on tearing this hateful human apart, but Xu Chunliang wasn't intent on killing the bear; he just wanted to rescue Hua Zhuyue from being cornered by the bears.
This time, the black bear changed tactics. When it was about five meters from Xu Chunliang, it leapt into the air, with its huge body pouncing towards him. The bear's fierce nature was unabated, and its strong claws swung back and forth.
Xu Chunliang leaned back, kneeling quickly to dodge the bear's pounce. He swiftly stood up, darting forward and slipping through the gap between the two bears before they could close in on him.
The two skinny black bears were momentarily stunned, turning their heads abruptly, only to see each other's bear faces. Xu Chunliang moved too fast for them to react in time.
Xu Chunliang had already reached Hua Zhuyue's side, and, without a word, he grabbed her by the waist and lifted her up.
The two slow-reacting black bears launched a renewed offensive. Xu Chunliang, holding Hua Zhuyue, dashed towards the small iron gate. The two black bears were also infuriated, howling and using all their strength to chase them.
The huge black bear, which had twice been dodged by Xu Chunliang, also returned with a vengeance. All three bears entered a full sprint towards them.
Hua Zhuyue exclaimed, "The iron gate, the iron gate!" She meant for them to first escape back and use the iron gate to block the bears' attack.
Xu Chunliang rushed towards the iron gate, but it was closed. Through his shoulder, Hua Zhuyue saw the three bears closing in. Now it was too late to open the small iron gate. Hua Zhuyue sighed inwardly; this Xu Chunliang was clever all his life, but how could he be confused at this moment? Since they had already escaped, why come back? Now she had dragged him into this mess.
Xu Chunliang was also in full sprint mode, showing no sign of stopping before hitting the wall.
Just as Hua Zhuyue thought they would both be caught by the bears, Xu Chunliang, driven by inertia, ran up the opposite wall, kicking back and forth off the wall and using its rebound to do a backward somersault in mid-air.
Hua Zhuyue felt like she was flying as he carried her through the air. The three black bears were just about to grab their target, but how did this target suddenly fly?
The two skinny black bears couldn't react in time and crashed into the dirt wall. Though the large bear was massive, it was quite agile. It raised its head, reaching out with a paw to try and grab the airborne prey.
Hua Zhuyue could even feel the sharp bear claws grazing past her hair, seeing up close the angry and unwilling eyes of the bear and its wide-open mouth.
Even though the black bear turned its head, its body still collided with the small iron gate due to inertia. The gate was knocked open, and the bear tumbled inside.
Xu Chunliang landed steadily with Hua Zhuyue in his arms, successfully dodging the attacks of the three clumsy bears. He put Hua Zhuyue down, and without pausing, they both fled forward, worried that the three bears would come back again.
After running just a few steps forward, they heard howling sounds again, clearly indicating more black bears were in this cave. Though Hua Zhuyue had been through many storms, it was her first time experiencing such a dangerous scene today.
Xu Chunliang's eyes fell on the stacked wooden racks on either side, hearing rustling sounds from within, like dense raindrops falling on the sand.
Hua Zhuyue lit a lighter, peering inside by its light. When she saw what was on the racks, she shuddered. There were densely packed black scorpions everywhere; this must be Wu Yuanyi's base for breeding black scorpions.
Xu Chunliang said, "I'll carry you out."
Hua Zhuyue had lost her decision power and obediently climbed onto his back. Five more black bears were approaching in single file from ahead, while the three behind were tracking them again.
From the racks on each side, the black scorpions cascaded down like black streams, converging on the ground.
Apart from where Xu Chunliang stood, the ground was entirely covered in scorpions.
The trailing black bears took a step forward, crushing several scorpions underfoot, prompting a swarm to surge up.
A few scorpions were nothing for the black bears, but there must be tens of thousands of scorpions in this cave. Faced with so many, even the bears could only retreat. Fortunately, their thick hides protected them from the bites.
Xu Chunliang showed no sign of retreat, moving forward with Hua Zhuyue on his back. The scorpions parted to both sides as he passed, revealing a narrow path.
Xu Chunliang continued through the cave, with the blocking black bears retreating all the while. The dense swarms of scorpions guarded Xu Chunliang as he moved forward.
Chunliang already sensed the cold wind blowing in from outside, proving they were not far from the exit.
Hua Zhuyue whispered, "Could there be an ambush outside?"
Chunliang thought it unlikely. By normal logic, the two of them wouldn't stand a chance of surviving under the attack of eight black bears.
Wu Yuanyi had been exposed; he couldn't stay here any longer.
Five black bears were forced into a corner by the scorpion swarm. Chunliang saw the large door ahead, locked from the outside, and realized that the two of them wouldn't be able to open this iron door with their strength.
Chunliang glanced at the black bears watching intently around them, and directed the black scorpions to surge towards them. The black bears, seeing the scorpions suddenly accelerate their attack, turned in fright and charged towards the iron door.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The sound of impacts echoed one after another.
Wu Yuanyi also heard the earth-shattering impact sounds and furrowed his brow. He took out his phone and asked Black Swallow, who's responsible for the rear guard, to check what was happening and instructed the driver to leave the farm as soon as possible.
Black Swallow leapt onto a Raptor pickup and directed the driver towards the bear quarters.
After relentless efforts by the black bears, the two iron doors were finally burst open, and the five bears dashed out like there was no tomorrow.
Standing in the pickup truck's bed, Black Swallow calmly prepared a compound bow, choosing a cross-star arrowhead. This formidable tip, composed of four sharp triangular points, was typically used for hunting large prey.
Two black bears rushed towards the pickup. Black Swallow drew the bow and aimed at the bear on the left, releasing an arrow.
Whoosh!
A sharp whistle accompanied the arrow, which flew like a meteor and penetrated deeply into the right eye of the bear, embedding itself in its skull. The bear let out a mournful wail and collapsed to the ground.
The other bear wasn't deterred, instead furiously charging at the pickup. Black Swallow shouted, "Charge forward!" She drew another arrow and noticed two figures emerging from the bear enclosure.
Black Swallow's eyes flashed with disbelief; she couldn't fathom how those two managed to escape from being surrounded by eight crazed black bears. Their luck was incredible.
Initially aiming at the black bear, she lifted the arrowhead upwards, targeting one of the figures with a cold smile at the corner of her lips.
Whoosh!
Chunliang heard the whistling sound of an arrow slicing through the air and instinctively pushed Hua Zhuyue aside. The arrow skimmed past his shoulder, hitting the forearm of the pursuing black bear. This was the giant bear that appeared initially. The bear roared in pain.
Its small eyes, now blood-red with rage, focused all its anger on Chunliang and Hua Zhuyue, shaking off the scorpions and charging at Chunliang. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Black Swallow intended to keep shooting, but she received an immediate order to retreat. Reluctantly biting her lip, she tapped the truck's roof, and the driver turned the vehicle around. She switched to a flame arrow, releasing one towards the warehouse and one towards the office area. Soon both the warehouse and office area were ablaze. The final arrow landed in a large dry grass field, and the fire quickly spread.
Using his agile body technique, Chunliang avoided the bear's attack. Now three more black bears advanced on them, forming an encircling pattern around him and Hua Zhuyue, roaring as they tightened the circle.
Standing back-to-back with Chunliang, Hua Zhuyue grasped her military knife and whispered, "Don't worry about me, one of us escaping counts as a success."
Chunliang calmly replied, "We came together, so we'll leave together!"
Suddenly, Hua Zhuyue heard a rustling sound above them and looked up to see a dark cloud quickly moving towards them. Upon closer inspection, it was a swarm of thousands of bats.
The bats descended from the sky, launching a frenzied attack on the four black bears. The bears swung their arms to swat the omnipresent bats but couldn't stop their rabid assault.
Witnessing this astonishing scene, Hua Zhuyue couldn't help but recall the first attack at the Seven Star Bar, when she suspected someone could control venomous creatures and bats. Now it seemed Chunliang possessed such an ability. If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she wouldn't have believed someone could control bats.
Chunliang patted her shoulder and, taking advantage of the chaos, pulled the wide-eyed Hua Zhuyue out of the bears' encirclement.
As they passed the office area, it was deserted, with the office buildings ablaze. A figure approached from afar; Hua Zhuyue raised her military knife but heard that person shout, "It's me... it's me!"
The person turned out to be Liu Qi. Earlier, realizing something was amiss, he had hidden under the guise of going to the restroom, never expecting such chaos to ensue. After Wu Yuanyi's retreat, he had gone back inside and found the phones of Chunliang and Hua Zhuyue.
