Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 205 - 149: Forgetfulness Water
Even while pregnant, Sang Luo was still preoccupied with her cravings.
Lou Xianyue personally barbecued meat for her.
He used the freshest ingredients, Star Beast Meat from a freshly killed beast. The meat of a King Rank Star Beast was rich in Spiritual Power, making it a rare spiritual material in its own right. Although some Spiritual Power would be lost during the grilling process, once it was sprinkled with various seasonings and tasted absolutely divine, she could completely ignore the minor loss.
"It smells so good." Sang Luo sat by the bonfire, her mouth watering as the rich, meaty aroma wafted over her.
"I learned this from Lan Cang. He told me you really like it." Lou Xianyue usually ate his food raw; this skill of barbecuing was something he had only recently learned.
"No wonder it smells so amazing. His cooking is always the best!"
’The way to a female’s heart is through her stomach,’ Lou Xianyue thought.
"It’s done. Sang’er, have a taste."
Sang Luo took the large beast leg Lou Xianyue handed her. It was roasted to a greasy, golden-brown perfection and sprinkled with cumin, chili, and other spices. Just the smell alone told her how delicious it would be!
One bite sent a burst of flavor through her mouth, making her taste buds explode.
"Delicious... So spicy... So hot..."
"Eat slowly," Lou Xianyue said, unable to stifle a laugh.
He plucked a broad leaf the size of a banana leaf from a tree and cut the rest of the roasted meat into bite-sized pieces for her. He then passed it all to her.
"Sang’er, you’re eating for two now, so eat up." Lou Xianyue watched with admiration as she took hearty, satisfied bites of meat. He hadn’t had much of an appetite himself, but her enjoyment sparked his own, and he ended up eating quite a bit as well.
Lou Xianyue then took out some prepared Spirit Brew from his Space Ring and went to pick several Spirit Fruits from a nearby tree for her to cleanse her palate after the rich meal.
By the time they finished eating, it was getting late.
Sang Luo was feeling sleepy again.
The Beastmen who ventured into the Secret Realm were a pragmatic bunch. They didn’t have high standards for living conditions; when they were tired, they could make do with a night in the open. If they feared a sneak attack from a Beast Tide, they might find a cave at most. Some groups would pitch tents around a bonfire on flat ground, which was a bit more comfortable.
Since Lou Xianyue was with Sang Luo, he didn’t want to cause any trouble, so he didn’t draw attention to them. He followed the common practice and set up a tent by a bonfire.
The ground was covered in fine sand and gravel, making it a bit uncomfortable to lie on.
He took out the soft cotton bedding he had prepared in advance and laid several layers on the ground so Sang Luo could sleep comfortably. He then took off his outer robe and draped it over her.
Sang Luo lay on the soft bedding and casually draped one of her long, slender legs over his thigh. Lou Xianyue understood immediately and began to gently massage her legs and back.
She giggled. "If your subjects ever found out that the great Sea Emperor is secretly henpecked..."
"Hm? What of it? My heart belongs to your child anyway. Sang’er, when can we have another one?" Having gotten his way, Lou Xianyue pressed his advantage. He lay down on his side, wrapped an arm around her waist, and looked down eagerly at her belly.
After this baby was born, she would be close to advancing to King Beast Peak, and then she could conceive his child.
"You want a child?" Sang Luo asked, lifting his delicate, handsome chin.
"Mhm! A baby girl would be best." Lou Xianyue was incredibly envious whenever he saw Lan Cang carrying his daughter around all day.
"This one hasn’t even shown up yet. Let’s talk about it after this baby is born~" Sang Luo yawned.
Seeing that Sang Luo was so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open, Lou Xianyue pulled her tighter into his arms, letting her lean against his chest. He brought his lips close to her ear and whispered, "Didn’t you always want to hear me sing, Sang’er? I’ll sing you to sleep, how about that?"
"Mmm~ okay."
His voice was already clear and pleasant, but the song of a Mermaid was even more enchanting and bewitching. Sang Luo couldn’t understand the lyrics of the Merfolk Clan’s ballad, but listening to the soothing, gentle melody from his throat, she soon drifted off into a sweet sleep...
...
For half a month, life continued much the same. Sang Luo and Lou Xianyue’s journey was smooth; they hunted over a hundred King Rank Star Beasts, ranging in level from Half-King Rank to King Beast Peak. They also happened upon many Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures that were hard to find in the outside world, as well as two precious Immortal Herbs.
While passing through a dense forest, Sang Luo keenly sensed the aura of a treasure. She sent out her spiritual power to search and discovered a peculiar ancient tree.
It was dozens of meters tall, seeming to tower over the world. From a distance, it appeared light pink, and Sang Luo thought it was in bloom. Only when she got closer did she realize that even its leaves were pink. The entire tree was mystical; clearly no ordinary thing.
"What kind of tree is this?"
"This ancient tree... I feel like I’ve seen it in an old tome before." Lou Xianyue thought for a moment before saying, "This is the Forgetfulness Tree."
Lou Xianyue walked up to the tree, and his fingers instantly transformed into their beast form. He sliced off a thick layer of bark, revealing a milky-white texture underneath. He took out a palm-sized porcelain vial and collected it full of the sap. After settling, it became as clear as water.
"The sap taken from a Forgetfulness Tree is also known as Forgetfulness Water. In the outside world, it’s a priceless treasure that you can’t buy even if you have the money."
"Forgetfulness Water... is that just a name, or...?"
"It truly does have the effect of making one forget their feelings. If a Beastman drinks this vial of Forgetfulness Water, it can erase the deepest emotion in their heart." Lou Xianyue’s long, jade-white fingers gently turned the porcelain vial. "The memories remain, but the feelings dissipate. Both love and resentment scatter. For the person, I wonder if it’s a punishment or a gift."
"...Can I have this vial of Forgetfulness Water?"
Lou Xianyue glanced at her and handed her the porcelain vial.
Sang Luo silently stored it in her space.
Lou Xianyue said in a low voice, "It seems you encountered many unforgettable people and events on your last trip, Sang’er. You can tell me about them."
"...Don’t jump to conclusions. It’s not for me."
Lou Xianyue took a step forward and raised a hand to gently stroke her brow. "But your brow is furrowed, hiding worry and sorrow."
"..."
He bent down and gently kissed the corner of her eye, tasting salt.
’This was the first time he had ever seen her so sad. Who was she grieving for?’
"Sang’er, what happened?"
"I... I broke a Male Beast’s heart. I wronged him."
"Was it that Young Master from the Bian Clan?" Whenever she mentioned him, she was reluctant to say more.
Sang Luo hummed in agreement. "Si Ye wanted a partner for life, one and only. But I couldn’t give him that. Instead, I tricked him and took his Primordial Yang. This child... I don’t know if he even wants it anymore."
"So that’s what happened." Lou Xianyue sighed. He could sympathize. After all, what Male Beast would be willing to share his mate if he had a choice?
"Sang’er, you don’t need to worry so much. He has his own choice to make. No matter what, you’ve done right by him by carrying his precious child," Lou Xianyue said. "If he really doesn’t want the child, just give the baby to me. I’ll raise it. I don’t mind."
Lou Xianyue was saying the exact same thing as Si Jing. This was the mindset of most Beastmen—offspring were more important than anything. However, Si Ye was clearly one of the few who valued affection more; to him, feelings were more important than heirs.
"I’ll probably send this child back to the Bian Clan. If it has Phoenix Clan blood, I’ll send it back to the Phoenix Clan to be raised by its uncle. After all, those two places are the child’s ancestral homes. If an outsider raises it, they could never be as dedicated to nurturing its innate talents as its own kin would be."
"Yes, what you say makes sense, Sang’er."
Lou Xianyue nodded. Seeing her still looking so downcast, he had an idea.
A beautiful little baby appeared in his hands.
It had short, slightly curled, ink-blue hair and a chubby little fishtail.
"Look who’s here."
