Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 29 - 18: Lan Cang’s Whereabouts
"The Insect Clan has you in their sights. Stay by my side, and I will guarantee your safety," Caesar said, looking at her intently.
"I want to go back to the tribe to find someone," Sang Luo declined.
"...Who is it? Your Beast Husband?" he asked, his voice calm.
"Yes." Sang Luo had no intention of hiding it. Since she and Lan Cang had already bonded, he was her legitimate Beast Husband—her very first one!
She would never forget him, whether he was dead or alive. As Sang Luo recalled all the little moments they had shared, a familiar ache resurfaced in her heart.
Caesar was silent for a long time, but the two Beastmen at the door were starting to break out in a cold sweat. That expression on the Admiral’s face usually meant he was extremely displeased, and the person he was facing was about to suffer. Fortunately, he didn’t make things difficult for Sang Luo. Instead, he asked in a low voice, "Is he... a Beastman from the Kordo Tribe?"
"Yes."
"I passed through that tribe’s territory. It was already a wasteland, completely devoid of life. The person you’re looking for isn’t there."
Sang Luo lowered her head, her expression grim. ’People always cling to unrealistic fantasies in desperate times, but I have to face reality.’ Under those circumstances, there was no way Lan Cang could have survived.
Perhaps it was a lingering effect of the past few days’ mental strain, or maybe her emotions were just welling up. Sang Luo’s chest felt tight, and her head felt heavy and dizzy again. Caesar had her lie back down on the bed. "You need to rest. As for the Kordo Tribe... This Beast Tide was highly unusual, and it has caught the Empire’s attention. I will leave some of my people to monitor the Rubel Forest region. If there’s any news, I’ll tell you immediately. How about it?"
"...Alright." Sang Luo finally relaxed. She grabbed his hand as he turned to leave, her lips parting. "Thank you, Caesar."
"It’s nothing."
His voice was intoxicatingly seductive. "Sleep well. We’ll be home soon."
Sang Luo was asleep in no time.
Caesar dismissed everyone else.
...
「Half a day later.」
Caesar led Sang Luo to a villa with a garden and registered her face and irises, granting her free access from then on.
Sang Luo thought back on everything she had seen on the way there, a constant stream of amazement running through her mind. The Kordo Tribe was like a remote village from her time, but the cities of the Western Continent, with their planned roads and architecture, were like 21st-century metropolises—or perhaps even more advanced.
There were cleaning robots everywhere along the roads, and all sorts of strange beasts—no, Beastmen—staging their own version of ’The Fast and the Furious’ on the streets.
It was prosperous and advanced, a place where people lived and worked in peace.
No trace of crime, filth, or squalor...
’No wonder Lan Cang said the Western Continent was the most technologically advanced of the four major continents. Life in the city is so much happier than in a tribe. Why did he leave, then?’
"Do you like it here?" Back at the house, Caesar had changed into a black and gold robe that outlined his lean waist. He looked magnificent and elegant.
Sang Luo turned back to look at him. The robe’s sash wasn’t fully tied, leaving it hanging open in a languid V. The man’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he spoke, a sight so sexy it was enough to cause a nosebleed.
She couldn’t tear her eyes away; her body was having the most instinctive reaction. ’I have to admit,’ she thought, ’this man’s looks are truly top-notch. Lan Cang is no match for him.’
’This place is really nice, too,’ Sang Luo thought, affirming it in her heart.
’Even in my own time, I could never have afforded to live in a standalone villa this large. The Imperial Admiral must be incredibly wealthy.’
But she would have to leave sooner or later, so she didn’t answer his question. She just rubbed her stomach, feeling a little sheepish. "I’m a bit hungry. Is there anything to eat?"
Caesar came out of the kitchen carrying a few bottles. "What flavor of nutritional supplement would you like?"
"..." Sang Luo thought she had heard him wrong. She hesitated for a moment before casually picking a bottle and taking a few sips. It was strawberry-flavored. ’The taste is... tolerable, I guess.’
’Is this what Beastmen on the Western Continent eat?’
It made her miss Lan Cang even more. Thinking of him, his fate still unknown, Sang Luo sighed once again.
Seeing her lack of appetite, Caesar recalled his own special constitution; he had been taking nutritional supplements since he was very young and had almost forgotten what normal food tasted like.
While nutritional supplements were more scientific and healthier for the body to absorb, most people still preferred more traditional cooking.
And females, in particular, were known to be picky eaters.
Caesar took Sang Luo out for a proper meal.
"Try this," Caesar said, cutting her a piece of a meat chop.
Sang Luo accepted everything he offered her. The roasted lamb chop was a bit tough and tasted unpleasantly gamy. ’Looks like the Western Continent is all about technology and couldn’t care less about anything else,’ she thought.
The grilled fish, on the other hand, was pretty good, its main virtue being the fresh, tender meat. She ate until her cheeks were puffed out, just like a little hamster.
