Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 422 - 361: The City Lord’s Concubine Selection
Sang Luo looked at the plump, comely woman before her. With her sharp, slanted eyes and a shrewd, slippery air, she was clearly no good-hearted soul.
She casually produced a High Grade Demon Crystal and offered it to her. "Aunt Tun, I’d appreciate it if you could tell me about the rules of this Lost City."
"Heh heh, you have a good eye, miss. You’ve come to the right person. I’m a long-time resident of this city. Is there anything that’s happened here over the years that I don’t know about?" Aunt Tun accepted the Demon Crystal, her smile growing even more fawning. Still, she asked a question first. "By the way, are you here to hunt for treasure?"
"Yes." For now, Sang Luo didn’t want to stand out, so she went along with the convenient excuse.
She had heard from Quan Jin that the Lost City was, to put it bluntly, a massive, chaotic black market. And it certainly seemed to be true... Most of the passersby on the streets were outside buyers, hailing from all sorts of places.
"In that case, miss, your clothes are far too plain. To be honest, this city is full of all sorts. You have people here for big business, but there’s no shortage of cutthroats and killers. A beautiful female like yourself, with no male companion or guard... If you buy a coveted treasure, you’ll be an easy target for those desperados. There are no laws or morals here, and no one will come to your rescue." Aunt Tun’s tone was full of earnest concern.
Sang Luo nodded. "Thank you for the warning."
Her outfit was indeed out of place. Many people had glanced her way on the street. Besides curiosity and indifference, their looks were also filled with blatant, malicious assessment. "Are there any good clothing shops in the city?"
"To be perfectly honest, the shops in this city love to swindle newcomers like you. Dressed like that, you’re bound to get ripped off. If you trust me, miss, why not come and sit for a while at my inn? I can help you with the arrangements. It’s just that..." Aunt Tun rubbed her fingers together.
Sang Luo took the hint and handed her a few more Demon Crystals. A huge smile creased Aunt Tun’s face. "The Tongbei Inn is just a few hundred meters ahead and to the left. Please, miss, follow me."
Sang Luo followed her.
The inn was four stories tall. The first floor was a restaurant, while the upper three floors were all guest rooms.
The rooms on the top floor were the premium suites.
There hadn’t been any large-scale auctions in the Lost City recently, so guest traffic wasn’t particularly heavy. Nearly half the rooms were empty. Figuring she might need to stay in the city for a few days, Sang Luo paid a deposit and had Aunt Tun reserve one of the premium suites for her.
Aunt Tun had someone bring up a pot of freshly brewed, aromatic tea and personally poured a cup for her.
Sang Luo raised the teacup to her lips, but paused just as she was about to drink.
"Is something wrong?" Aunt Tun asked. "Is the tea not to your liking, miss?"
Sang Luo set the cup back on the table, hesitating for a moment. "I... there’s something I wanted to ask you, Aunt Tun."
"If you have any other questions, miss, please ask freely. I’ll tell you everything I know and hold nothing back."
As Aunt Tun took the opportunity to draw closer, Sang Luo shot up, grabbed her by the collar, and forced the tea into her mouth.
A common female with no Cultivation, she was no match for Sang Luo. Her eyes widened in terror as she struggled to spit the tea out, but it was no use. Most of it went down her throat.
The inn’s guards rushed forward together, trying to rescue Aunt Tun from Sang Luo’s grasp, but they were no match for her. She took them all down in a matter of moments.
Affected by the drugged tea, Aunt Tun quickly passed out and collapsed.
Sang Luo regretted wasting her Demon Crystals. ’The hearts of men are not what they once were,’ she thought. ’To run into a human trafficker right after arriving... this Lost City certainly lives up to its reputation.’
...
"I was wrong, miss, I know I was wrong! Please, let me go! I’ll never do it again!"
When Aunt Tun awoke, she found herself trussed up and tied to a chair.
The guards she had hired were all tied up as well.
Sang Luo pulled over a chair, slowly nibbling on a piece of fruit as she leisurely watched them panic and beg for mercy.
"I thought you were an honest woman, Aunt Tun. That’s why I came to you for information. I never expected you to target me. Consider this a small punishment."
Aunt Tun was sick with regret. "If I had known you were a skilled practitioner, miss, I would never in a million years have dared to target you!"
"After you knocked me out, where did you plan on selling me?"
"You’ve got it all wrong, miss! I’m not a human trafficker, and I never intended to sell you. I was trying to send you off to a better life, and, well, just earn a small finder’s fee in the process..."
Sang Luo flexed her wrist. "Still not ready to tell the truth?"
"It’s the absolute truth! I was just taking money to do a job—selecting consorts for the City Lord. I happened to see you on the street, a peerless, heavenly beauty, and I got... ideas. But if you were chosen to enter the palace, you’d have endless glory and riches! Even if my methods were wrong, I... I was doing it for your own good..." Aunt Tun said, her voice trailing off without conviction.
’This trafficker sure knows how to paint herself in a good light.’
Sang Luo scoffed internally. ’If being a consort in the palace were really that great, people would be trampling each other for the opportunity. Why would they need to go after an outsider like me? And why would they have to kidnap people to fill the ranks? Does she think everyone is a fool?’
Aunt Tun was rendered speechless.
A whip appeared in Sang Luo’s hand. It was long, slender, and jet-black, covered in curved barbs. A single lash from it would be enough to flay a person’s skin from their flesh, leaving them in a state worse than death.
The color drained from Aunt Tun’s face. Utterly panicked, she cried out, "Miss! Don’t! I’ll... I’ll tell the truth! I’ll tell you the real story, I swear!"
Sang Luo lifted her chin. "Tell me everything, down to the last detail. If you hide anything else, this whip is coming down."
Aunt Tun swallowed nervously. "It’s true the City Lord is selecting consorts. His subordinates are scouting the entire city for young, beautiful females for the sake of... well, producing heirs. If chosen, you’re guaranteed endless riches and glory, but..."
She lowered her voice, looking terrified. "The City Lord is a Fallen Angel. He’s rumored to be dangerously temperamental—cruel, bloodthirsty, and treating human life as worthless. That’s why no female of any standing dares to go near him. I was just taking money to do a job, scouting the city for young, gullible females from outside clans. That’s... that’s why I targeted you."
Sang Luo’s attention was completely fixed on those two words: "Fallen Angel."
Her breath hitched.
Forcing herself to remain calm, she asked, "Who is this City Lord?"
"The City Lord is a big deal. They say he’s a Fallen God Angel. No one has ever seen his true face. He only just returned to the city."
"..."
Sang Luo’s heart plummeted. ’A Fallen God Angel... she currently knew of only one.’
’All signs pointed to Minos.’
’He just returned to the Lost City, and he’s already making a big show of selecting consorts for himself!?’
’She had brought their child all this way to see him again, and he was already looking for a new love? How wonderful! Just wonderful!’
