Chapter 438: Chapter 377: Mind Reading Technique

But Yan didn’t seem to have *that* kind of interest in her. She couldn’t have his children even if she wanted to!

Sang Luo’s thoughts drifted back to his fiery passion that one time—so deep and enduring. If she hadn’t truly obtained his Talent Ability, she would’ve suspected the whole thing was just an incredibly vivid wet dream...

After diving into a sea of books for three days, Sang Luo finally emerged from the Book Collection Pavilion having learned a thing or two. She went to the study and saw Yan writing with a brush. Her dark eyes lit up, and she eagerly went over to help him grind the ink.

Yan wielded a wolf-hair brush, his movements fluid and unbroken, as graceful as flowing water.

Sang Luo could see he was writing a medicinal prescription; she recognized many of the herbs from the books she had read.

She remembered Fei Yuan saying that a plague was running rampant in Qingqiu. ’This must be the prescription to treat it.’

She slowly ground the ink with one hand while propping up her chin with the other, watching him intently.

But as she watched, her mind began to wander. Sang Luo really wasn’t cut out for serious study, and her gaze slowly drifted from the paper and brush to the man’s hands.

His fingers had well-defined knuckles and were as pale and cool as jade, as beautiful as a masterpiece meticulously carved by the Creator.

’Tsk, so gorgeous.’

Her gaze slowly traveled to his snow-white wrists, to the chest concealed by his robes, and to the delicate, fair skin peeking out at his neckline. A single, soft strand of long hair disappeared into his collar, a sight that sent her mind racing.

She then looked at Yan’s profile. With his long lashes cast downward, the curve of his nose and lips was fluid and exquisite, utterly flawless.

A man focused on his work possessed a unique kind of charm.

Yan was already a man of celestial beauty. The current lack of emotion on his face made one subconsciously forget his status and age as a Divine Venerable, making him all the more alluring.

Sang Luo swallowed hard, her mouth going dry as lust flared within her. The thought suddenly struck her—she wanted to take him, to tumble with him in bed, and then bear him a litter of adorable little fox cubs!

SCRATCH—

The tip of Yan’s brush paused abruptly, a small splotch of ink blooming on the character he was writing.

Sang Luo noticed it too and, snapping out of her daze, asked in surprise, "High Priest?"

He lifted his brush, completed the character, and finished writing the last few herbs. He then handed the paper to her. "A perfect opportunity to test what you’ve learned these past few days."

"You got it!" Sang Luo took the paper and glanced at it. None of the herbs were particularly rare; she’d seen them in her books and recognized most of them.

She went to the apothecary to sort and gather the required herbs, with Yan following along to make sure she didn’t make any mistakes.

A few of the herbs looked very similar, nearly tricking the novice Sang Luo. But with a reminder from Yan, she quickly returned the wrong ones and grabbed the correct herbs. Following the dosages on the prescription, she used paper to wrap the herbs into more than a hundred packets.

Sang Luo volunteered, "Where do these herbs need to go? I can deliver them for you."

Yan nodded and handed her a map. "The location is marked on here."

"You got it!"

Just as Sang Luo was about to head out, Yan called to her from behind. "After you... obtained my power, did you ever look at what my Talent Ability is?"

Sang Luo froze. ’Come to think of it, I never have!’ Back then, her mind had been consumed with saving Minos. After obtaining Yan’s power, she had been busy enduring the Heavenly Tribulation and then had rushed off to save him without a moment’s rest. She had completely forgotten about it after returning.

Yan’s reminder prompted her to subconsciously take a look.

She wouldn’t have known if she hadn’t looked.

But the moment she did, her face exploded in a furious blush!

’How... is one of them a Mind Reading Technique?!’ 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

’All those lewd fantasies I’ve been having about him these past few days... he... he... he... he heard *all* of them?!’

WHOOSH! She fled as if her life depended on it.

Yan watched her retreating figure, the corners of his lips curling into an almost imperceptible smile. A moment later, he turned and went back into the courtyard.

...

「Jingshan.」

The refugees suffering from the plague were settled here.

The afflicted Beastmen were sallow and emaciated, their appearances haggard. Other Beastmen were constantly coming and going, carrying bodies shrouded in white cloth to the back of the mountain for cremation and burial.

Sang Luo sighed to herself. She went to find the old village chief who was in charge of things, intending to give him the prescription and herbs for distribution. However, she was surprised to learn that the chief himself had unfortunately contracted the plague and had been bedridden for many days.

The village chief was already old and frail, and his sick body couldn’t withstand the illness. She heard he hadn’t even been able to get out of bed for the past two days and didn’t have much time left. His family was reportedly already preparing his final arrangements.

Sang Luo went to pay her respects and saw an old man at death’s door lying on the bed. He was ancient, comparable to a centenarian from the modern world; who knew how many years he had lived in this Beast World.

She had heard that the Qingqiu Fox Clan had few offspring; of the most precious Nine-tailed Fox Clan, only Yan remained, and even the descendants of the ancient, native fox clans were rare. To think this old man was a pure-blooded Red Fox... ’He must be a figure of great seniority in Qingqiu,’ she mused.

A Servant brewed the medicinal soup and brought it to the old village chief.

The old village chief needed his rest. After Sang Luo explained her identity and purpose, he pleaded with her to help treat the afflicted people.

Of course, Sang Luo agreed.

Upon hearing that medicine for the plague had arrived, the afflicted people were filled with renewed hope, spontaneously forming long lines to receive the packets.

The plague was spreading fast. There appeared to be nearly a thousand victims in this area, and there weren’t enough packets of medicine to go around.

Chaos and fighting broke out in the crowd as people vied for the herbs. There were even some scalpers mixed in who, after grabbing the medicine, sold it to others at exorbitant prices.

"Quiet down! Please form a line and come one by one! Each person is limited to one packet! A second batch of herbs will arrive tomorrow, so please wait patiently. Anyone who violates these rules will have their eligibility to receive medicine revoked!" Sang Luo’s calm yet authoritative voice reached everyone’s ears. At the same time, she directed the helpers sent by the village chief to subdue the scalpers in the crowd.

The restless crowd quickly quieted down again, but soon, a few discordant voices rose up.

"This girl... she doesn’t look like a Qingqiu Beastman, does she?"

"Why, after all this time, has the High Priest himself not appeared? Instead, he sends a female from another clan? Who’s to say if the medicine you’re holding is even real."

Right at that moment, a pained cry came from the crowd.

"My stomach hurts... it hurts so bad! Help me! After I drank that medicine, the pain in my stomach is unbearable!"

"There’s something wrong with the medicine?!"

The crowd’s unease was ignited once again. When they saw the Beastman who had just drunk the medicine suddenly clutch his stomach in pain and begin foaming at the mouth, they all started to doubt if the medicine was real.

Sang Luo looked at the few people in the crowd who were shouting the loudest and took out the Token Yan had given her. "I have come to distribute this medicine on the High Priest’s orders. Are you daring to question the High Priest’s command?"

"The High Priest was dead for so many years and then suddenly came back to life. Who knows what other secrets are being hidden in the shadows?"

"Come to think of it, doesn’t anyone else find it strange? This plague appeared right after the High Priest was resurrected. Does no one suspect he has something to do with it?"

"Don’t spout such nonsense! How could the High Priest possibly do something like that?"

"The High Priest was dead for more than a hundred years. The Qingqiu Beastmen’s loyalty is no longer with him. He must be using this plague as a ploy to win back their favor..."

Such comments spread throughout the crowd.

A stern, aged voice suddenly barked out, "Shut your mouths! What nonsense are you spouting? If you keep spreading these vicious rumors to mislead everyone, I’ll break the legs of every last one of you!"
