Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 536 - 475: Haven’t You Thought About Having a Second Child With Me?
After a few days visiting his aunt with Little Hetao, Lanyun returned.
He’d been gone for a few months. He used to keep his hair long, tying it in a low ponytail, but Little Hetao always liked to sneak a bite. For the sake of convenience, he’d finally cut it. Now, his short, choppy orange hair looked much cleaner and more refreshing.
"Little Hetao, come here! Let Grandma give you a hug~" Sang Luo crouched down, her arms wide open.
The little one scampered on her four short legs and dove into her arms.
Sang Luo picked up the Wolf Pup, bouncing her a little. "Mm! You’ve gotten heavier!" she laughed.
Little Hetao’s yellowish-gray puppy fur had mostly faded. Having passed her awkward phase, she now sported a beautiful red merle coat. At her young age, her ears hadn’t fully stood up yet. She had a broad head, a squarish muzzle, four stout and sturdy little legs, and thick paw pads. With her solid bone structure and long, soft fur, you could already tell she was going to be a beautiful wolf.
"Little Hetao, you’re so pretty! Let Grandma give you another kiss!" Sang Luo was slowly getting used to her new identity. She held the Wolf Pup and kissed her fluffy little face. ’So sweet-smelling and soft! Just too cute!’
"Grandma~ Pretty~" the Wolf Pup replied, nuzzling her with a damp, pink nose.
Sang Luo grinned from ear to ear.
’How can my granddaughter be this cute?!’
Lan Cang produced a bag of jerky from his spatial storage. "Grandma made this herself. See if you like it."
Little Hetao held the jerky with her two front paws, chewing on it patiently.
Her little fangs were almost fully grown. Sang Luo had deliberately dried the jerky a bit longer, thinking it would be good for her teething, but she hadn’t expected the little one to devour it in just a few bites.
After finishing, Little Hetao licked her lips and looked up at her with watery, amber eyes. That expectant little gaze was enough to melt anyone’s heart.
Sang Luo had no choice but to give her the whole bag of jerky. "Make it last, okay? Don’t eat too much in one day."
"She won’t listen. She’ll finish it all tonight and then refuse to eat her real dinner," Lanyun said with a helpless sigh, though his eyes were full of adoration as he watched his daughter.
"By the way, Dad, Mom, I heard from my third sister that there are a lot of business opportunities in Gangong City. I’d like to go there and try to make something of myself."
Lan Cang thought for a moment. "Gangong City used to be just a resource-poor, unclaimed territory with a population of only a few thousand—it could hardly even be called a city. It’s only in the last century, by relying on its port for shipping and connecting the trade routes between major cities, that its economy has been poised for takeoff. Its future potential is limitless. There are certainly many opportunities, but many powerful factions have their eyes on that prize. Trying to carve out a place for yourself there now will likely be quite difficult."
Lanyun grinned. "Don’t worry, Dad. I haven’t been just freeloading all these years; I’ve learned a thing or two. A tough nut to crack is what makes it a real challenge!"
His second son might have seemed like a bit of a dissolute playboy on most days, but he was still the child Lan Cang had raised. He wasn’t just an empty, unskilled pretty boy, and Lan Cang naturally had faith in him.
Lan Cang glanced at the Wolf Pup in Lanyun’s arms. "You’re taking Little Hetao with you?"
"Yes, I want to keep her with me and take care of her myself," Lanyun said.
Any beast who had been a father could understand that profound parental love; you only truly felt at ease when your child was right there with you.
His second son was finally showing some ambition, so Lan Cang certainly wouldn’t stand in his way. For the past six months, Lanyun had done an excellent job of looking after the Wolf Pup all by himself. Lan Cang had seen it with his own eyes and wasn’t worried.
"Take good care of her. And if you need your father’s help with anything, remember to ask."
"Okay. Thanks, Dad."
After packing his and his daughter’s belongings, Lanyun set off at the beginning of the following month.
Gangong City was thousands of miles from Ice-breaking City, so a round trip was no simple feat. With a six-month-old Little Hetao in tow, Lanyun wouldn’t be making the strenuous journey back and forth often. The days they would see each other in the future would be few and far between.
Lan Cang’s expression was stoic, but on the day of their departure, it was clear how reluctant he was to see them go.
Sang Luo summoned her children who were free.
Little Phoenix, Little Zhi Xin, Little Carp... they all came. With the siblings all together, the atmosphere was boisterous and lively, filling the City Lord Mansion with a new warmth.
Lan Cang made some jerky and snacks for the children. Watching them roughhouse and play in the courtyard, a gentle smile spread across his face.
"Thank you, Luoluo," he said in a low voice, wrapping his arms around her waist. "In the future, when the children are free, could you send them over to stay with me for a few days?"
He added, "Little Stone and the others are gone now. The City Lord Mansion is too quiet. I... I’m not quite used to it."
Sang Luo looked at his downcast face and sighed inwardly.
She knew all too well how lonely Lan Cang had become after the children left one by one.
She couldn’t stay by her Beast Husbands’ sides forever, bearing children for them. Her reasons for having children were twofold: first, to give her husbands something to focus on, and second, to provide them with companionship so they wouldn’t be lonely.
With his children gone, Lan Cang had suddenly lost his purpose, unsure of what to do with himself anymore.
"They’re my children, but you’re their father too. You can have them over to play anytime you want."
Lan Cang looked over at Little Phoenix and the others. The younger Divine Beast Descendants were mostly still cubs.
"I wish Little Stone and the others could have grown up more slowly," he said with a hint of envy.
Sang Luo laughed. "Their other fathers can’t wait for them to grow up, but you’re the opposite. You want them to stay young."
"Before I had children, being alone never bothered me. But after having them by my side for so many years, I can’t get used to them being gone. I just feel... empty, like something is missing. My days are easier, but instead of being relaxed, I feel stifled and bored..." A bitter look flickered in Lan Cang’s eyes, but he quickly composed himself. "Maybe in a few years, Little Stone and Zhi Xin will have their own children, and I can help look after them."
"Little Stone isn’t even married yet, and Zhi Xin hasn’t given it a thought. She doesn’t even have a single Male Beast she’s interested in. If you’re waiting to hold more grandchildren, who knows how long it will be."
Sang Luo looked at him, her eyes slowly turning sultry.
"Ever thought about having another one with me?"
Lan Cang froze, then shook his head. "You said you didn’t want to have any more children."
"Saying is one thing, doing is another. We have enough children, so there’s no need for more. But if someone were like that Fei Yuan, pestering and begging me for another, I certainly wouldn’t refuse." Sang Luo’s eyes, deep as Water, shimmered with affection as she gazed at him. "You, on the other hand... you’ve never once asked me for anything in all these years. Even Little Stone and the others were an unplanned surprise."
"I... I’m afraid I can’t have any more..."
"How will we know if we don’t try?" Sang Luo leaned in and kissed his lips.
Warm and soft, yet with a trace of the desolate chill of Ice and frost. Sang Luo’s passionate kiss captured the man’s thin lips. Heat flared through Lan Cang’s entire body, and his breath hitched.
He placed a hand on the small of her back, pulling her forcefully into his embrace as he lowered his head to deepen the tender, lingering kiss.
He breached her defenses, their tongues clashing like sparring blades.
Sang Luo’s heart hammered in her chest, and her body grew warmer and warmer until her bones felt as if they were melting, leaving her limp in his arms.
Lan Cang carried her back to their room, and they fell onto the bed, still locked in a deep embrace.
His long, broad fingers, callused yet gentle and restrained, stirred ripples across the surface of the Water.
Sinking. Losing control.
