Genetic Ascension-Chapter 1099: Suffering from Success
Sylas devoured the food before him. There weren't any seasonings, and they had barely been heated up to manageable levels, but he swallowed it all eagerly nonetheless.
He didn't care about the taste. He had always seen food as a means to an end as early as he could remember. There was a reason why he had always passed off his desserts to his little sister. There was little to no nutritional value in a piece of cake—so why would he eat it?
Right now, though, the food itself was even less important to him. His thoughts were spinning, trying to consider what steps to take next.
He thought that he would be able to secure a major victory for himself with this move, and ironically enough he had… it was just that the victory was too major.
This entire section of the universe had suddenly lost the influence of the strongest Thryskai, and now their Mortal Clans would likely be vying for position to become the new Thryskai Demi-Gods.
But the problem with that was that they would be even more likely to take risks, which meant that the Kaelthar that he least wanted to come across would be even more likely to appear now if they weren't already on their way.
After all that work, rather than making things easier on himself, he had ended up making them harder. Facing off against such odds, he wasn't even sure what to do.
He could only try to go through each one of his abilities to see if there was another approach to take here. His first thought was that of the path of a Madness Disciple.

Sylas looked at this screen and shook his head.
Legendary Gene? How was he supposed to get his hands on that? He had barely managed to cobble together some semblance of a Gold Gene, and it required cheating and being smited down by a Legendary System that only appeared due to a Treasure with origins he still couldn't even describe.
Sylas had ended up asking the Madness Key a lot of questions in the last several hours. The cost of questions had gone down considerably, not only because the Madness Key had been reset to only requiring Fragmented Genes, but because he was a higher Tier Madness Disciple now as well.
Thanks to that, he could touch on more Taboos, and technically speaking, that should have made it more difficult for him to gather Taboo Points. But clearly… that wasn't a problem for him at all. He had already cleared those requirements this time around as well.
Due to these questions, he knew that the All-Seeing Eye's appearance was due to the activation of a rare treasure, one of unfathomable origins.
This was all to say that he had only been able to make it this far due to a series of coincidences, but that was also the power of intelligence and knowledge as well. It was because he had been sharp enough to take advantage of these chances that he could succeed as he had.
But this time… his deductions had slipped up.
Plus, even if he could get his hands on a Legendary Gene, what would that even mean? So he became a Tier Four Madness Disciple—what would that get him?
The irony, though, was that with the evolution of his Profession, Sylas actually could touch Legendary Genes now. Before, they had all been capped at Gold despite how high-leveled it was. But after Nosphaleen became a Progenitor…

This actually wasn't what made Sylas the most shocked. It was instead the changes to the way the three Legendary Paths he had synergized amongst one another. He could see a future where as his Profession grew from Common to Bronze… and then Bronze to Silver… and then beyond that, where they would slowly become just one, all-powerful path.
The appearance of Total Fusion was just one of those things. Who knew if in the future there might be some unique synergy between Were-For-The-Invincible and Taboo Bond, where he could bond with a Serpentes to permanently infuse their Unique Gene into himself, or maybe he would be able to snatch all of their Potential and instantly make all of their talent his own.
There were hundreds of other unique fusions that Sylas could think of, but if reaching this step required making Nosphaleen a Progenitor, how much harder would reaching the next milestones of this "Hidden Quest" be?
All the while, Sylas was conveniently ignoring the so-called "Seed Essence." It was the other on the list that hadn't been completed just yet.
But that was the problem with all of these. These thoughts were so fanciful and great, but… they were all helpful for the future.
Nothing could give him the immediate strength he needed.
Seed Essence was more of a process than it was a breakthrough. He had already formed an initial connection with his Seeds, and he would just need to deepen it before the Tier Four Madness Disciple Quests acknowledged his success. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
But it wouldn't make or break his future success either way.
No matter what way Sylas looked, nothing seemed to be enough. How was he going to deal with two armies with trillions of trillions of powerhouses, many of whom were in the D-Grade, and all of whom were sworn to protect the lives of just two young men…?
Without any help at all?
And somehow do all of that within a week and a half's time?
