Jadebone Mountain

The wind howled across the tall green mountain as banners of gold and red snapped into the air. This was the main peak of the Temple of Eternal Body, surrounded by four other peaks, the tallest of them all.

Jadebone Expanse was the territory of the only monk sect in the Quan Empire. It was surrounded by forest and several passages connecting to the cities nearby, while the peaks had a dark valley surrounded on all sides.

The monks of the Temple of Eternal Body liked their solitude, away from the attachments of the mortal world.

Even though they were generous and humble people, these monks rarely had people visiting them, let alone holding gatherings to hold thousands and thousands of people.

But like other things, there was an exception to this rule as well.

Every 50 years from the founding day of the Temple of Eternal Body, they hold a great gathering just like today to honor the founding of their home place, the temple, and to initiate the opening of a grand event.

Something that happens only twice in a century. Something that all the cultivators from across the world come to see and experience.

Something so grand that the three greatest sects gather to participate.

The Opening of a Great Domain!

The Resting Place of the First Abbot of the Temple of Eternal Body.

Chance to obtain his legacy and gain enlightenment into the secrets of the Great Dao.

And the temple was generous enough to allow everyone who had the qualification to enter and join the ceremony.

And so as the day of the grand celebration arrived, people from all across the empire had gathered in a massive stone plaza carved into the cliffside just beneath the Jadebone peak.

"It is finally happening! It just feels like a dream."

"I have only ever heard about this event, and now I can finally participate as well."

"Damn you, Father, why couldn't you wait for another year before getting drunk enough to give birth to me!"

"I have never seen monks in my life. Do they look like monkeys?"

"I heard they are bald and like to carry balls."

The cacophony of cheers and shouts of the crowd reverberated through the entire plaza. Everyone appeared to be elated as they talked among themselves or seemed to be in a world of their own.

As the wheels of time continued to turn, the slow hum of the enchanted prayer filled the whole temple. Not just the plaza, even those outside the sect who were still arriving could hear it.

The chanting brought a sense of peace to the restless heart. The golden smoke of the incense drifted through the air, filling everyone's body to the brim with energy.

"Look, they have arrived!"

In the crowd, someone pointed at the hundreds of disciples, dressed in saffron robes adorned with golden Kasaya, lined up on each stone step of the stairs leading to the top of the Jadebone peak.

Their mouths moved as they chanted a string of chants. Their bodies gave off an aura of power that twisted the air around them. They were the disciple monks from the inner sect who were present before the world to represent the temple.

Those who were on the lower stairs had a bronze glow on their bodies, and if you looked higher, you would see a silver hue appearing on the bodies of the disciples.

"Woah, they look like a low-budget lamp."

Smack!

"What do you know? It's their cultivation technique that makes their bodies as strong as a diamond."

"Then can I learn that technique after joining them and become a monk as well?"

Smack!

"Hmph! Have you even seen your face in the mirror? Only the inner disciples have the honor to even touch this technique."

"But Father… Mother said we look the same." The little boy was silenced by the single glare he was getting from his father.

Just like the awe of the father and son, the others in the plaza looked at the monks with admiration and reverence.

"I heard you have to train real hard to even reach the entry level in the technique."

"I wonder if there are limitations to their technique or if everything turns into diamond."

As the woman spoke, her eyes lowered a little before she looked away as if she had not said anything, but the women around her clearly heard each word she said but did not choose to comment.

After all, they were now thinking the same thing.

'Damn it, why did you have to put the image in our head!' They all bit their lips at the same time and silently glared at the woman.

Suddenly all the voices died down as the thick clouds around the Jadepeak mountain parted and a huge jade platform, one-fourth the size of the stone platform itself, appeared in sight.

And even then it was more than enough to hold hundreds of people on it without touching each other.

Etched on the platform were three grand-looking states; the statues were of monks. They were wearing similar clothing but looked different from each other.

If one looked frail and weak, the other was muscular and powerful in appearance. Yet the third statue that was in the middle appeared to be different from all of the others.

He looked neither weak nor strong, no different from an ordinary old man. But the eyes of the monk were filled with brilliance and benevolence. Just from the statue, you could feel him looking at you with kindness and warmth.

"It's Abbot Liang Chen!"

"He looks so gentle and calm!"

And in front of the three stone figures stood a live human being.

Unlike the disciples of the temple, he was wearing a golden-red robe that covered the lower half of his body and a multicolored, very soft yet simple-looking kasaya. His body was covered in a multicolored brilliance, while his 6 burn marks on the head shone lightly.

"Amitabha. This humble monk greets the honored guests." His eyes swept over the crowd when he welcomed them all with a warm smile on his face. "Fifty years have passed since the Gate of the Eternal Body last opened."
