Gu Chen looked at the thing in his hand and realized that it was a jade token. The smooth surface of jade was etched with several glowing patterns.

"And at that time I expect you to answer and fight by my side. Keep the ring hidden from others, and the token itself has a peak Golden Core Realm safety strike. It will save you in the face of danger once."

Gu Chen was not even sure he had heard everything that Noah was saying, as he was already staring at the man with his mouth open.

Suddenly he plopped down on one knee and cupped his hands before Noah. "I swear on my Dao heart, senior. I will go through fire and ocean for you, and if you ever fight against the people who forced my Wei Bing to die, I will put my life on the line to stop them!"

Looking at the serious look in his eyes that were burning with passion and determination, Noah did not ask him to stop or step up, as that would be disrespectful to his conviction.

Instead he nodded with a serious look on his face, "Till we meet again, Gu Chen. Remember my name; it's Noah. Next time we meet, we will be comrades in arms."

A golden glow enveloped Noah and Xin Yan, teleporting them away from the room.

Leaving the Great Desolate Mountains, the duo made their way back to the towns they had passed on their way to this place.

Now that the souls had been freed, it was time they laid to rest the bodies of the fallen mortals.

"I am deeply grateful for all the help you gave us in finding the bodies of the people of my town." The magistrate of the town Ah Wei belonged to bowed to Noah upon hearing that great news.

He could finally lay his son's body and give the news to his people to do the same.

Once they were done informing him, Noah and Xin Yan made their way to the next town.

There were only a few towns where they had even revealed themselves to someone, and in the rest of the places, Noah had secured the bodies with his seals.

Since no one could find the bodies, they remained untouched, and now that he had returned, he was going to let someone from the village find them.

"How do we let them find the bodies without telling them anything?" Standing in the air, right beside Noah, Xin Yan asked. "There is no need for us to do anything."

Noah showed a mysterious smile before turning his attention to the people walking on the ground below that looked like ants crawling on the ground and waved his hand.

A small circle appeared on Noah's hand, and a man walking on the ground suddenly paused.

He was a middle-aged man who appeared to be taking a stroll on the streets while glancing at the women he passed by with dark intentions.

Just then, his eyes suddenly turned vacant, and his steps paused. All of a sudden he changed his destination and took a right turn.

After some turns he arrived at a deserted building that once belonged to a very renowned merchant until he hanged himself to death and made the people think that this place was cursed.

The only people who even passed around this place were the guards who patrolled the city and who also happened to see this man walking into the building.

Curious, they also decided to follow after him.

The middle-aged man looked around the place as if he was searching for something, unaware of the silent company following after him.

The rooms were filled with thick dust covering every inch. Wherever he stepped, he left a trail of footprints.

He only stopped upon entering the innermost section of the room. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. It appeared to be a normal bedroom.

A single bed, a set of chairs and a table, and a wardrobe—everything covered in dust. Spiders were crawling on the webs in the corner as the man raised his head to look at the rope still hanging from a beam of wood in the ceiling.

Walking around the room, he started searching for something. Flipping the bed, going through the wardrobe, and the drawers.

The guards who were watching all this from outside moved to stop the guy and interrogate him about his motives until they saw him stop.

Under their watchful eyes, the man pulled on a wooden panel on the ground on the spot where the bed was.

"This is?" A foul, rotten smell filled the room, making the guards and the man flinch.

"What—" The man who was being controlled by Noah suddenly gained clarity of his surroundings and actions. As soon as he woke up from the trance, the man started throwing up everything he had in his stomach.

The guards rushed in at the same time and started questioning him. "Hey! What are you doing here?!"

While one of them climbed down the hidden stairs and arrived in the secret chambers, finding the pile of bodies that belonged to the people who had gone missing from the town.

The guard panicked and ran out of the room.

"Hey, you all have to come see this." The other guards saw his panicked state and realized that something was not right.

They all went in together and took the man they had caught along with them as well.

At the same time, high up in the air. Noah nodded at his handiwork in satisfaction. "Now everything is settled in this place."

"Why choose that guy to lead them?" Xin Yan asked.

"Because whoever found the bodies first will either become a suspect or face some inconvenience because of the severity of this matter." He explained.

Xin Yan finally understood the implication and nodded in understanding, "So if there are any repercussions, only scums like him will suffer. Indeed a nice plan."

Noah chuckled, seeing the look of adoration in her eyes, "Shall we continue to the next one?"

Their bodies streaked through the twilight, and they made their way on to the next target.

"Where shall we go after dealing with these towns?" Xin Yan asked during their flight.

"We can go on our own personal adventure around the continent." Noah suggested, "And while we are at it, we can recruit like-minded people to join our cause against the cult."

"We will need all the help we can get." Xin Yan also seemed to agree with his plans: "The danger is looming in the shadows, and war is upon us."

"Then we will start with raiding some domains that have beautiful scenery to spend time in?" Noah suddenly changed the topic with a smirk, which Xin Yan matched with one of her own. "Sounds like a plan."

Woosh!

Repeating the same action in the other towns, Noah and Xin Yan set off on their journey, picking a direction at random.

Unknown to them, the righteous sects all around the Quan Empire were getting restless because of the news about the demonic energy source they had received, and the first one to reach the Great Desolate Town was indeed the illusionary Lotus Sect.
