Chapter 814: Chapter 814: Ring

And in that moment, Mirai made a decision. She has to die.

Maybe if Holea died, Mother would stop pressuring her. Maybe she could finally be free.

With fury in her heart, Mirai tensed her legs, ready to lunge.

But the moment she tried to move—

She froze.

No, it was worse than that.

Her body stayed kneeling, but her mind was spinning, her soul suddenly feeling loose, unsteady... as if something inside her was being ripped away.

"No!" she gasped, clutching her chest. "What—what’s happening?!"

She turned toward Yu Holea, her voice rising in panic, anger, and fear.

"What did you do?! WHAT’S HAPPENING TO ME?!"

Yu Holea finally looked at her.

Her expression was calm. Cold. Steady as stone.

"You’re returning what never belonged to you," Holea said evenly. "With interest."

Mirai’s eyes went wide. "No... no, no, no... this isn’t possible!" she shrieked. "You can’t do this! You can’t!"

But Holea didn’t flinch.

"Oh, I can," she said. "And I am."

The glowing trap beneath Mirai brightened again. The circle pulsed once, twice, and each time it did, a part of Mirai’s soul trembled violently.

Her limbs shook. Her breath came out in shallow gasps.

"No, please..." she whispered. "Please don’t..."

All the arrogance, the smug smiles, the biting words—crumbled in an instant. What remained was a terrified girl kneeling in the ruins of her own cruelty.

"I’ll give it back!" Mirai screamed. "Just don’t take me too! I didn’t—It wasn’t me! I never even hurt you directly!"

Yu Holea raised an eyebrow.

"Are you even listening to yourself?" she asked, a bitter chuckle escaping her lips.

"You kicked me out of the Yu mansion," she said, voice sharp.

"You knew the truth. About the switch. About everything. And you let me suffer anyway. You stood by while they humiliated me."

Mirai shook her head, but Holea’s voice only grew stronger.

"You turned the entire Yu family against me," Holea said, cutting her off. "And when that wasn’t enough, you came for my siblings. You nearly killed them. You even hurt my grandfather."

Mirai’s lip trembled. "I... I didn’t hurt Old Master Yu," she whispered desperately. "That wasn’t me! I swear it!"

Holea tilted her head. Then she smiled, cruel and quiet.

"I know," she said. "That was your mother."

Mirai’s breath caught.

"But it didn’t stop you from standing by and watching," Holea added, voice like ice.

"There was a time when you tried your best to drag me down. I hardly retaliated. You know why? Because I was waiting... waiting for the day, all your protection falls apart, and then I will take revenge."

Yu Holea had long ago shed her innocence.

As tempting as it may sound, the reality is, innocent people don’t survive in a world like this.

Yu Holea had learned that the hard way.

She looked at Mirai, who was now crying, her hands digging into the floor as if she could hold onto something—anything—to keep her soul from slipping away.

"But... but I didn’t mean for it to go that far..." Mirai whimpered. "I just... I just wanted to live a good life."

Holea didn’t look away. "And I didn’t?" she asked. "I didn’t want a good life, too?"

The circle on the ground glowed even brighter now. A faint mist began rising from Mirai’s skin.

"You had everything," Holea said, voice low.

"My name, my family, my place. You had all of it. And what did you do with it? Schemed against me, and my brothers, and killed your own grandmother. You even harmed my cousin.

Mirai sometimes sining too much can cause you to lose track of your own sin."

"I’m sorry!" Mirai screamed suddenly. "I’m sorry, okay?! I didn’t know it would end like this!"

Holea stared at her for a long time. Then she said quietly, "Neither did I."

Mirai’s whole body trembled now. Her voice was barely a whisper. "Please... please stop it... I don’t wanna die..."

But the trap didn’t stop.

The glowing magic circled tighter. More of the silver light poured from Mirai’s chest. And at the same time... something else started forming in the air.

Yu Mei’s soul slowly came out of Ou Xiaoxiao’s body and travelled to Yu Mei’s body.

While Mirai’s soul got stored in the container, placed inside the magic circle.

Ou Xiaoxiao’s body lay limp on the chair. Seeing her like that, Yu Holea felt pity for the real Ou Xiaoxiao. In the entire drama, only Ou Xiaoxiao was the one who was completely innocent, but her life was so affected.

She wondered if Ou Xiaoxiao’s true soul was even in the right condition or not.

With that thought, Yu Holea walked up to the container in which Mirai was stored and asked,

"Where is Ou Xiaoxiao’s soul?"

"I won’t tell you!" Mirai shouted, her voice echoing in the brightly lit room. She struggled against the container, which was nothing but a glass vial. Her soul had shrunk to the size of two cockroaches.

She struggled for a long time, but for some reason, she wasn’t able to use her energy at all.

"No need to struggle." Yu Holea said in a chillingly calm voice,

"Even if you struggle with all your might, you won’t be able to break free, since the vial is made by Qiao Jun. He knows soul cultivation, and I doubt that you have ever focused on soul cultivation."

"You b*tch! Get me out! Right this instant! My mom... she will kill you, if you don’t!" Mirai shouted. She couldn’t understand why, even though she had planned so much and yet failed when she confronted Yu Holea.

Yu Holea ignored her and repeated her question,

"Where is Ou Xiaoxiao’s soul? I am asking you kindly, if you don’t tell me, then you are of no use. At most, I will kill you and then move on to your mother."

Mirai’s glowing form inside the vial quivered at Yu Holea’s words.

"You wouldn’t dare," she hissed. "You need me!"

Holea’s eyes darkened.

"I needed answers. If you can’t give them to me, then you’re just dead weight," she said coldly.

Qiao Jun, who had been silently watching, stepped forward and gently placed a hand on Holea’s shoulder. "Killing her soul outright may still lose us our only lead," he said quietly. "Let me try something first."

But Holea shook her head.

"She had chances," she said, her voice low. "I gave her more chances than she ever gave me."

She leaned closer to the vial, her face inches from Mirai’s flickering soul. "Tell me where Xiaoxiao’s soul is."

"I don’t know!" Mirai shouted. "My mother did it! She said Xiaoxiao was a burden and that she... she locked her somewhere! I never saw it!"

"Where?" Holea asked again, her voice sharper.

"I DON’T KNOW!" Mirai screamed. "She never told me! I didn’t ask! I just—" her voice cracked, "I just wanted to keep living! I didn’t care!"

The words hung in the air like rot.

Holea straightened slowly, her lips tight.

"Of course you didn’t," she muttered. "You never cared about anyone but yourself."

Mirai’s tiny, flickering soul floated helplessly inside the glass vial, her glowing form trembling.

But even now—when she had lost everything—her thoughts were not quiet.

Just you wait, Holea, she thought bitterly. You’ll regret this. You’ll regret every single thing you’ve done to me. You think you’ve won? No... no, you’ve only walked into a trap.

Her glowing form sparked, as if reacting to her inner anger.

Then suddenly, her voice echoed from the vial, shrill and urgent.

"Give me the ring!" she shouted.

Yu Holea blinked. "What?" she asked slowly. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

"The ring! The one I wore on my right hand!" Mirai said again, desperation growing in her voice.

"It’s important! It has... it has a part of my soul in it! You have to give it back!"

Qiao Jun, who was standing beside Holea, narrowed his eyes. His expression became serious. "What did you say?"

Mirai hesitated for half a second. But then she rushed on, her voice rising in panic.

"The ring! I-I put a soul fragment in it! It’s precious to me! If you crush it, I—I’ll really die! Please! Don’t touch it! Don’t hurt it!"

Yu Holea stepped back slightly, suddenly feeling uneasy.

She looked down at her hand. That ring had fallen off Mirai’s finger during the soul extraction. It had rolled to a corner of the room, unnoticed until now. Qiao Jun quietly stepped over and picked it up with his gloved fingers.

He turned it over carefully.

It was a simple silver ring, with a pale blue gem in the center. Nothing fancy. But as he held it up to the light, a strange shimmer passed through the gem—like something alive was inside.

"A soul fragment?" Qiao Jun said, his voice thoughtful. "That’s dark magic. Forbidden stuff. You weren’t just playing dirty, you were preparing for death."

"I had to!" Mirai cried. "Mother said to always prepare a backup! The ring—it’s my safety! Please! Don’t do anything to it!"
