Global Awakening: Infinite Gift Pack System-Chapter 103: The Destruction of the Shelter
Haven‑62 seemed peaceful, but they were in a dire situation.
It hadn’t been that long when the Mech Siege had nearly torn the shelter apart. The previous leaders had died in the fighting, and with them went the last of Haven‑62’s high‑level Augmented Humans. What remained was a battered community of thirty-two survivors, crumbling walls, and the faint hope of not being targeted by the A.I. Army.
Farrah rose early each day during the 10-day wait for the Global Event...
Her job here was to patrol a certain sector for a few hours every day. Specifically, the garden, the pens, and the well.
Although the shelter still had food supplies, it was not much. They had a small garden in the courtyard, and even though its soil had blackened, it was fertile enough to yield vegetables.
It must be protected at all times.
Aside from that, she’d always check the goats in their pens, since they were providing milk for everyone...
Lastly, the well in the center gave them clean water... This was their lifeline, and they must ensure that it would not be polluted at all costs.
"Has it been a day?" Farrah muttered as she clutched her stomach... With her Survivor Title, her satiety wasn’t easily decreased, but she still had to eat once a day to survive.
[ Title Effect: Satiety decreases more slowly. Survivors can endure longer without food before hunger penalties occur. ]
Anyway, the last meal she had was an MRE.
She recalled that only three boxes remained, and they were even from the fallen leaders’ vault. For thirty‑two people, it was barely anything. Even rationed to one meal a day, the supplies would vanish quickly.
Thankfully, with their Title and Gene Enhancements, it allowed most of them to survive on less. Nonetheless, it felt like they were just trying to survive because of it... They didn’t feel energetic or even capable of fighting long battles.
Farrah often thought about that as she watched the new leaders. They needed some improvement or changes... Unfortunately, she really had no say in this shelter.
The leaders were the oldest among the survivors, chosen by necessity rather than skill.
Their voices carried authority, but they would sometimes make bad decisions...
Well, they weren’t Foreign Survivors like her and Alfie.
They hadn’t been pulled from Earth, dropped into this world with strange talents and the burden of adapting.
For them, Farrah and Alfie were outsiders. They were only within the top 10 strongest fighters in Haven‑62...
Indeed, among the thirty-two, there were another eight who could stand against the machines.
"This shelter has no future..." Farrah muttered to herself as she swung her sword for practice...
Farrah’s Spirit Knight talent gave her a bond with her blade. It strengthened her strikes, and it allowed her to obtain Gene Skills that could empower her Talent as a Spirit Knight.
"Ssshhh... Don’t say that. That old man might hear you..." Alfie said.
Alfie’s Gladiator talent made him really good in combat, his endurance and raw power could even be compared to their strongest fighter right now. Still, because he lacked Spirit Points, he could barely use his Gene Skills.
Nonetheless, each day, they trained together in the courtyard.
They sparred until sweat soaked their clothes, until their muscles burned, until they reminded themselves that they were still alive and could always get stronger.
Well, they had to work hard since they weren’t even fighters back on Earth...
"Ah! Farrah, that’s..." Alfie said as he worried look at the shelter’s gate.
This happened during one of those sparring sessions... Apparently, their base had been found by the Tyrant!
The alarms rang out...
From the horizon, the machines advanced... There were Sentinels, Spyder units, and towering above them, a Field Tyrant armed with flamethrowers.
The survivors scrambled to defend the shelter... About 10 of them had rifles with limited filled magazines at the very least.
Farrah and Alfie didn’t hesitate to help...
As soon as the rifles became useless, they charged with their blades.
Together, they managed to bring down one of the Sentinels while the others focused on the remaining ones.
"This isn’t good..." Alfie said.
His Gladiator strength allowed him to pin the Sentinel down, while Farrah’s sword strikes pierced its core. The machine collapsed in sparks and smoke.
However, none of them were happy about the situation.
Around them, chaos reigned. The Spyder units skittered across walls, firing bursts that tore through defenders.
As for the remaining Sentinels, they were still being held down by the other fighters.
Still, after helping each other, they managed to bring down all the Spyder and Sentinel Units...
Boom!
Suddenly, the leaders were blown away by the Tyrant.
Without waiting, the machine unleashed waves of fire, reducing their defenses to ash!
"Run!"
"We can’t win!"
"Hide! Let the Tyrant be, don’t aggro it!"
The battle was brutal.
Twelve survivors died in the fighting... Even if there were survivors, their limbs were lost, and some had heavy injuries.
Even the leaders themselves were crippled.
Needless to say, Alfie and Farrah wanted to run away as well.
However, the leader called them out and pressed a potion into their hands.
The two recognized it. It was the Gene Stimulant!
"Please save our shelter..." The leader said.
Though it was surprising that the man didn’t consume it himself, the two didn’t ask any questions.
Without hesitation, they consumed the potion that burned in their throats... However, it didn’t take long before strength surged back into their bodies.
Together, they faced the Tyrant.
"That’s a lot of experience points. Can we really win?" Alfie muttered.
"Even if we can’t, we can escape. The Gene Stimulant lasts for 10 minutes."
And so, side by side, Farrah with her Spirit Knight talent and Alfie with his Gladiator talent, charged the Field Tyrant.
But then, something changed.
The Tyrant paused. Its sensors shifted, its head turning away from Farrah and Alfie. The flamethrowers hissed, but they didn’t fire. Instead, the machine focused on another location.
Farrah frowned while lowering her blade slightly. "What’s it doing?" she muttered.
Alfie was also confused. "Something’s wrong."
And then they saw it... A lone survivor appeared, rushing toward the Field Tyrant... He was accompanied by an advanced Sentinel, unlike anything they had ever encountered.
