Chapter 24: [24]Forging the Dragon’s Scales, Legendary Armor

The interstitial glade was quiet. It offered the perfect sanctuary for what Vahn was about to do. He didn’t need a blacksmith forge. He didn’t need a magical anvil or a roaring fire. As the EXP Architect, the entire world was his workshop and raw data was his clay.

Vahn stood in the center of the silver lit clearing. He swiped his hand across his holographic interface and executed a mass inventory ejection.

With a heavy resonant thud, the spoils of the 12th floor materialized on the grass. Massive obsidian black scales radiated immense heat. Vials of boiling dragon blood and a pulsating crystalline core cast a brilliant fiery glow across the clearing. The sheer quality of the materials made the air warp and shimmer.

Sia took a step back with wide eyes. "Commander, the ambient mana radiating from those materials is staggering. A master blacksmith would need a month just to temper one of those scales without it detonating."

"Good thing I’m not a blacksmith," Vahn replied. He rolled up the sleeves of his cheap tunic. He looked at Hana who was sitting on a stone bench watching him with rapt attention. "Hana. Stand up. Let’s get your measurements."

Hana blinked and hopped off the bench. "Wait, you are making something for me first? But you are the one with the horrible death curse on your chest! You need armor Brother!"

"Your survival is the anchor of my reality," Vahn stated. His voice was completely devoid of his usual dry humor. He meant it absolutely. He stepped forward with his eyes glowing in brilliant azure circuits as he analyzed her base character model. "I can dodge. You cannot. Therefore you require impenetrable mitigation."

Aria watched from the sidelines. Her heart fluttered strangely at the raw unguarded devotion in Vahn’s voice. He was always cold and calculating with the rest of the world. But when it came to his sister, he was fiercely and undeniably human.

"System," Vahn commanded. His voice echoed with absolute authority. "Open the Conversion Interface. Target: Mutated Inferno Drake Scales. Target Two: Drake Mana Core. Initiate structural synthesis."

[System Interface]

↳ Conversion Interface Opened.

↳ Please allocate EXP for Legendary Synthesis.

Vahn didn’t hesitate. He wasn’t going to be frugal with his sister’s life. "Allocate twenty million experience points. Force a hyper condensed physical evolution. Remove all level and class restrictions."

The glade erupted in blinding golden light.

Sia and Aria had to shield their eyes as a violent vortex of raw data swallowed the dragon materials. The twenty million EXP acted as an extreme catalyst. It aggressively broke down the massive obsidian scales and rewove them at the atomic level. The fiery core shattered and its liquid magma essence forcefully injected into the new code.

Vahn stood in the center of the storm. His hands moved rapidly as he wrote defensive algorithms into the fabric of the gear.

The light snapped out of existence.

Floating in the air before Vahn was a lightweight dress coat woven from flexible obsidian threads. It was accented with glowing crimson runes that pulsed like a heartbeat.

[Item Crafted: The Sun Silk Aegis]

↳ Tier: Legendary (Mythic Growth)

↳ Attributes: +5,000 Endurance. +2,000 Spirit.

↳ Absolute Immunity to all elemental damage below Tier 5.

↳ Grants the passive skill: Dragon’s Sanctuary (Absorbs lethal damage once every 24 hours).

Vahn plucked the coat from the air and draped it gently over Hana’s shoulders. The moment the material touched her, it automatically adjusted to fit her perfectly. The heavy aura of the dragon vanished and was replaced by a warm comforting glow.

Hana gasped and spun around in a circle as the coat flared beautifully. "Oh my god! It is so light! Vahn, I feel like I could arm wrestle a tank!"

"Please do not arm wrestle a tank," Vahn sighed, but a genuine smile broke across his face. He turned his attention back to the remaining materials. "Now. We need to upgrade the vanguard."

He looked at Sia. "Bring me your shield."

Sia didn’t hesitate. She marched forward and unstrapped the heavily dented iron tower shield from her arm. She presented it to him like an offering. "It has served me well Commander. But its durability is failing."

"It is garbage," Vahn corrected her smoothly though his tone was fond. "You blocked a Mythic boss aura with baseline iron. You are highly inefficient, but your loyalty is commendable."

Sia’s face instantly flushed red. She snapped into a rigid salute with her entire body vibrating. "I will strive to be more efficient in my loyalty Commander!"

Vahn chuckled and tapped the interface. He dumped five million EXP into the remaining dragon scales and Sia’s shield to aggressively fuse them together. The metal warped and expanded into a massive jagged kite shield made of pure tempered obsidian. It radiated a terrifying heat.

"Take it," Vahn ordered. "It possesses a kinetic redirection matrix. If you block an attack perfectly, it will reflect fifty percent of the damage back as pure fire."

Sia took the shield. Her arms trembled not from the weight but from the sheer honor of the gift. It was actually lighter than her iron one. "I will not let a single attack pass me Commander."

"I know you won’t," Vahn said softly.

Finally, Vahn turned to Aria. The Priestess was nervously fidgeting with her wooden staff. Her emerald eyes darted everywhere but his face.

"Aria," Vahn said. His voice dropped into a calm and terrifyingly absolute tone.

She stepped closer with her heart hammering against her ribs. She was acutely aware of the cherry blossom scent trailing her and the intense calculating gaze he leveled at her.

"Your current robes are highly impractical," Vahn noted as he stepped directly into her personal space. He raised his hands and his fingers lightly brushed the fabric of her shoulders as he analyzed her structural data. The physical contact was electric and sent a sharp jolt straight up her spine. "They offer zero kinetic mitigation. If a rogue bypasses Sia, you will die instantly."

"I... I have defensive spells," Aria stammered. Her breath caught as he leaned in slightly closer with his eyes glowing with the system light.

"Spells have cast times. Armor does not," Vahn countered gently. He didn’t pull back. He kept his hands near her shoulders. He was fully aware of the reaction he was causing but he viewed it purely as data. Her heart rate was elevated. Her face was flushed. It was an adorable physiological response.

"System," Vahn whispered while his gaze never left Aria. "Allocate ten million EXP. Target: Priestess Robes. Infuse with remaining Drake Blood. Optimize for mana regeneration and physical evasion."

The golden light enveloped Aria. She gasped as her basic white robes dissolved. They were instantly replaced by a stunning form fitting set of ceremonial combat vestments. They were pristine white and heavily accented with gold and deep crimson lines that mapped her curves perfectly. The material felt like silk but possessed the density of titanium.

[Item Crafted: Crimson Lotus Vestments]

↳ Tier: Legendary

↳ Attributes: +3,000 Agility. +4,000 Intelligence.

↳ Mana Regeneration increased by 500%.

Vahn took a step back and thoroughly admired his work. "There. Now you won’t trip over your own feet when casting in a chaotic environment."

Aria looked down at her new gear. She was completely speechless. The sheer power radiating from the robes was intoxicating. But the way Vahn was looking at her made her stomach do backflips. It was like she was his most prized and carefully crafted asset.

"It is... it is beautiful," Aria whispered and looked back up at him. "Thank you Vahn."

"You are welcome Sister-in-Law," Hana chirped cheerfully from the background.

Aria whipped around with her face completely red. "Hana! I swear to the Founders!"

Vahn let out a loud genuine laugh. The sound echoed through the quiet glade. He looked at his newly outfitted team. They were no longer commoners in trash gear. They were walking anomalies clad in the forged power of a Mythic beast and millions of manipulated experience points.

He still had the Calamity Curse burning on his chest. But as he looked at his team, he felt an absolute sense of calm. The Duke wanted a war. The elites wanted to play games.

Vahn cracked his knuckles while the remaining EXP pooled in his interface.

"Alright," Vahn smiled and his purple eyes gleamed. "Let us go break the 13th floor."
