Global Disaster: I Will Slay Gods In This Second Chance!-Chapter 39: The Flight To The Summit
Lunaria International Airport.
Inside a luxurious airplane, the highest leaders and officials of Lunaria were seated throughout the airplane.
At that moment, a tall, beautiful, brown-haired woman stepped inside the airplane.
She was accompanied by two middle-aged men who bore a striking resemblance to her, with brown hair and refined features.
"President Maria."
Standing near the entrance, General Volks greeted Maria first with a small smile.
Then, he shifted his gaze to the other two middle-aged men.
"Mr. Auburn. Senate President. Welcome."
Compared to Maria’s greeting, theirs was definitely less cheerful... to say the least.
Jacques Auburn and Gerard Auburn, the Auburn Family Head and Senate President, respectively, had strange expressions as they saw their daughter receiving better treatment than they were.
But considering General Volks’ status, they didn’t dare complain.
Even the President had to bow down to the General in times of war.
Jacques and Gerard exchanged a glance, then looked at Volks with a small smile.
"General, you’re too kind. It’s our duty."
General Volks nodded slightly, turning his attention back to Maria.
He said sincerely. "We’re glad to have you join us. Your presence will definitely help Lunaria’s voice in the Summit."
"I’m glad as well, General."
Maria politely replied. Her eyes shifted, sweeping her gaze throughout the entire airplane.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t find the person she was looking for.
General Volks keenly noticed her worries. "Are you perhaps looking for Mr. Starks?"
Maria turned her gaze and nodded slightly. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"He should be arriving soon," General Volks said thoughtfully. As though curious, he suddenly asked. "Why didn’t you two go together?"
But he quickly realized he asked the wrong question as a difficult expression emerged from Maria’s face.
Jacques and Gerard, seeing their daughter’s expression, fell silent.
’Mr. Starks...’
They exchanged a glance, and countless thoughts immediately ran through their mind.
No doubt about it!
This Mr. Starks guy was the one causing their beloved Maria to feel gloomy recently.
Maria ’s eyes turned unfocused. "He hasn’t been answering my calls, maybe he’s busy?"
After saying that, she let out a sigh.
"I’m being too much again...’
General Volks stiffened up, but before he could speak, Maria briefly nodded to him and turned away with a gentle smile.
"Nevermind, forget about it. He’ll definitely attend."
Seeing her gentle smile, General Volks nodded with difficulty.
At that moment, his eyes suddenly caught a figure from a distance.
Although the outline was slightly blurry, he couldn’t be mistaken.
"President Maria..."
General Volks suddenly coughed, causing Maria to pause on her steps.
"Mr. Starks is here."
Perhaps it was because his words were unintentionally high, but everyone on the airplane had heard him.
A sudden silence emerged as everyone looked over in curiosity.
But compared to everyone’s interested reactions, Maria’s eyes shone as a wide smile naturally adorned her flawless face.
"Really?!"
General Volks didn’t need to answer her as the man in question finally arrived.
In the airplane entrance, a tall young man with short black hair stood. His appearance was exceptional. He had striking, sharp eyes, a well-defined jawline, and an almost perfect facial harmony.
His pair of beady dark pupils was immensely attractive. Staring at them felt like one was being pulled into a bottomless abyss, and yet one can’t stop but dive even further.
But perhaps more unusual was the aura he exuded.
Despite being by himself, the young man brought more pressure to everyone than anyone could.
Wearing a black-breasted suit, Zold looked exceptionally refined at this moment.
He didn’t have the air of a young man who had just stepped into the real world, but instead, it was as if it were the world that hadn’t discovered him yet.
General Volks snapped out of his daze and greeted with a smile.
"Mr. Starks. You’ve arrived. How have you been?"
Zold shifted his gaze, glancing at Maria first, then turning to General Volks.
"I’m doing fine, General. I trust you’ve been the same?" He replied casually.
General Volks smiled. "Yes, your help in the Association has been tremendous! With your research, we’re close to finalizing a complete system for Awakeners!"
Then, he glanced at Maria and quickly added. "Of course, President Maria’s help is important as well! Her recent expedition has made a lot of Awakeners gain experience in slaying monsters."
Being brought into the conversation, Maria’s lips curved into a small smile. She shook her head. "General, it’s nothing."
Then, she gazed at Zold, and the two’s eyes met in the air.
"Maria."
Zold nodded in greeting, causing Maria’s face to brighten slightly.
But his next words caused her expression to plummet.
"I’ll be taking my seat. Let’s talk later."
Cold, taciturn, and uncaring—
Jacques and Gerard exchanged a glance and felt a spark of anger emerge in their hearts.
Maria was obviously excited to meet him, but this young man...
Maria quickly recovered and said with a smile.
"Alright, let’s sit together!"
But before Zold could speak, she added calmly.
"This is important."
Zold fell silent briefly. He nodded. "No problem."
After saying that, he suddenly realized that Maria was accompanied by two other unfamiliar men.
Jacques and Gerard wished to remain silent, due to their bad impression of Zold, but Maria’s glaring stare made their hearts skip a beat.
Inwardly sighing, Jacques quickly introduced himself, keeping the anger in his heart.
He said politely. "Mr. Starks, I’m Jacques Auburn. The Auburn Family’s head and Maria’s father. It’s nice to meet you."
Zold nodded briefly. "It’s also nice to meet you, Mr. Jacques."
After him, Gerard went next. He stared at Zold directly and didn’t bother to be polite. "Mr. Starks, you should know me even if we haven’t met before."
Zold glanced at him, then turned his gaze to Maria. He nodded at her and moved past the three of them, completely ignoring Gerard.
Gerard’s mouth twitched, a feeling of shame surging inside him.
"Uncle."
Suddenly, Maria looked at him. Gerard felt his heart skip a beat. Her gentle and soft smile seemed extremely eerie.
"We’ll talk later."
But before Gerard could explain himself, Maria turned around and caught up to Zold’s back, the two of them finding their seats on the plane.
Jacques and Gerard looked at each other, with the former sighing.
"Brother, you shouldn’t have done that."
"Tsk!" Gerard clicked his tongue. He shook his head. "So what? She’s my niece! Nobody can treat her like that, even if it’s God himself."
"Maria is smart," Jacques said. "She’s just too genuine. She’s still a child at the end of the day."
After complaining for a bit, the two of them also found their seats and sat down.
On the right side of the plane, Zold sat on the window seat, while Maria was beside him.
The two were silent, their expressions calm and still.
After a while, Maria broke the silence with a question.
"How have you been? You weren’t answering my calls."
Zold didn’t answer immediately. He turned to her and spoke simply. "Busy."
Maria nodded and didn’t push. "I see."
"So?" Zold leaned against the airplane seat, completely relaxed. "What’s the important thing you have to tell me?"
Maria glanced at him and answered with a low tone.
"Beyond was sighted in Afrasia."
