Global Disaster: I Will Slay Gods In This Second Chance!-Chapter 49: Demon Hunters
Nihono, Hotokye City.
By the time they arrived in Nihono, it was already the next morning.
As the imperial capital of Nihono, the streets of Hotokye City should already be brimming with life at this time, but the sudden appearance of the Nine Apostles had forced another global lockdown.
Learning from the First Era Ending Calamity, many nations announced a lockdown, wanting to observe the changes first before continuing operations.
Luckily, there weren’t any cases of sudden body explosions anymore.
In the Hotokye Demon Hunter Association branch, Nagito led Zold and Namita to his office.
Inside, a female staff was already waiting, sitting on the sofa. Seeing Nagito enter, she immediately stood up and bowed respectfully.
"Chairman, welcome back."
"Shiho, brew some coffee for me and our guests."
Nagito nodded slightly as he instructed her. He removed his coat and hung it behind his desk, taking a seat after.
"Understood."
Shiho spoke quickly.
She glanced at Zold and Namita, a trace of curiosity flashing by her eyes.
The Chairman rarely had guests, but this time he directly brought two, and they were foreign people as well.
As a Hotokye native, she wasn’t unfamiliar with foreigners. But recently she hadn’t seen a single one, and she thought it would take a while before she would see one again.
Due to the recent changes, nations stopped accepting tourists anymore.
"Guests, do you have any preferences for your coffee?"
Nonetheless, she remained respectful. Any guest of the Chairman was surely an important person.
"Black coffee. No sugar." Zold answered.
"Black coffee for me too." Namita answered casually. He added. "But add 2 tablespoons of sugar for me."
Shiho nodded respectfully.
"Understood. I’ll go brew them now."
She excused herself first, closing the door on her way out.

Zold looked over Nagito’s office, noticing that it was relatively simple with a minimalist-style.
His brows lifted when he saw a shelf filled with manga and light novels.
’Isn’t he too old for this...?’
He glanced at Nagito, not expecting him to be still interested in such stuff.
As if he didn’t notice a strange gaze on him, Nagito spoke with an easy smile.
"Take a seat. Let’s wait for Shiho to come back before talking about your identities."
Zold nodded slightly, taking a seat on the sofa.
Namita sat beside Zold, also observing the room casually.
Hearing the word "identities" come out from Nagito, he suddenly realized that their stay here might be longer than he initially imagined.
After a brief while, Shiho came back carrying three cups of coffee.
She gave one to Nagito, and the other two to Zold and Namita. After handing out the coffees, she dismissed herself, leaving the three of them alone.
Once Shiho was gone, Nagito sipped on his coffee calmly.
"You two should already be familiar with our situation in Nihono, right? I won’t ask Zold, but how about you, zombie guy?"
Namita wasn’t able to answer right away, not expecting to be called a zombie. Still, he kept his composure and answered him with a straight face:
"A little bit. Nihono calls its Awakeners as Demon Hunters. Moreover, it’s one of the nations with the most rogue awakeners and unnatural-type monsters, making it one of the most dangerous nations in the world right now."
Nagito nodded.
"That’s right. It’s not much different from the Awakener Association in Lunaria, so you don’t have to worry about not being able to adapt quickly. But it still has its own rules, though it’s nothing complicated."
He suddenly paused, recalling something.
"Before I continue, I suppose I haven’t really introduced myself properly," He smiled casually, watching Namita’s face. "But I’m Nagito Ryota, the Chairman of the Demon Hunter Association of Nihono."
’Not a branch, but the entirety of Nihono...?’
Although Namita already guessed Nagito’s identity when Shiho had called him chairman, it still surprised him.
’That should be equivalent to the Zold’s status in the Awakener Association...’
He glanced at Zold subtly.
Keeping his thoughts to himself, Namita introduced himself calmly.
"Nice to meet you, Chairman. My name is Namita Hajin, a former detective."
Seeing Namita’s bland response, Nagito couldn’t help but chuckle.
"I like your attitude, zombie guy. No wonder Zold recruited you. Birds of the same feather flock together, as they say."
’Zombie guy...’
Namita just decided to ignore it.
At this moment, Zold interrupted them impatiently..
"Get to the point, Nagito."
Nagito wasn’t surprised, sipping his coffee slowly.
"Alright. I’ll keep it brief. Nihono is in dire need of assistance right now. The First Era Ending Calamity was already bad enough since unnatural-type monsters are inherently difficult to deal against, but the current Second Era Ending Calamity is going to make the current situation even worse."
In fact, Nihono already had a couple of "high-risk areas" in its rural regions.
They were continuously being invaded by unnatural-type monsters, making them uninhabitable.
Nagito had spent most of last month cleaning them, but even then, they were almost endless.
He continued slowly.
"I already filed your identities in the association. You two will be joining the 13th Demon Hunter Squad in this city. Typically, there’s only 12 Demon Hunter Squads per region, so your squad will be a newly established one with new members."
"Each Demon Hunter Squad is composed of five members. You don’t have to worry about their backgrounds and abilities, they’re handpicked by me personally. Since they’re new, I’ll ask you two to guide them."
’Handpicked by you? That’s exactly why I should be worried...’
Zold thought as he glanced at Nagito, inwardly sighing
"Hmm... usually there’s a supervisor assigned for each squad," Nagito paused, shaking his head. "But your squad will report only to me, and only me. I’ll handle all your mission assignments."
Zold nodded.
"That’s fine."
Nagito chuckled. Not like he had the guts to assign The One Without Equal to someone else. But thinking about it, wouldn’t it be funny?
He shook his head and brushed aside such thoughts.
"I’ll ask Shiho to inform the rest of your squad. It might take them a day to arrive, but I’ll send their files ahead so you can review them."
He paused, recalling something important.
"Oh, right. I’ve already prepared a residence and a bank account for the two of you. Ask Shiho downstairs and she’ll brief you with the details."
After saying this, Nagito glanced at the two of them, sipping his coffee.
"Any concerns?"
Zold shook his head.
Namita also shook his head.
"Alright. Perfect."
Nagito smiled casually, clasping his hands.
"Happy cooperation. I’ll call you as soon as I have a suitable mission for your squad."
