Global Disaster: I Will Slay Gods In This Second Chance!-Chapter 50 - 13th Demon Hunter Squad
Hyotokye, Shinjuku Ward.
As the capital of Nihono, Hyotokye was one of the largest cities in the world, divided into twenty-six districts known as wards.
In the center of Hyotokye lay Shinjuku, home to the Demon Hunter Association headquarters.
In one of the small apartments in Shinjuku, Zold sat in a meditative position, eyes closed and mind moving incredibly fast.
He was deriving skills.
Now that he was in the Vital Spark stage, his transcendent perspective of the world allowed him to comprehend skills much faster.
In a couple of days, he should be able to comprehend [Darkness Control] and [Metal Control].
At that moment, he felt an itch on his throat, forcing him to open his eyes.
Feeling thirsty, Zold decided to stop his session here, standing up to grab a cup of water.
The apartment given to him by Nagito was small, incomparable to his large villa in Lunaria.
But this was actually more in line with his preference.
Perhaps Nagito had known this, but he was very satisfied with the apartment.
Zold preferred when things were simple and minimalistic.
At that moment, his phone rang on the table.
Ring~
Zold suddenly paused to glance at it, seeing that it was Nagito.
He grabbed his phone and answered the call, putting down the cup of water.
"Nagito?" He questioned.
On the other side of the phone, Nagito’s emotionless voice came.
[How are you doing so far?]
"Get to the point."
[Never a fan of small talk, eh?] Nagito chuckled, then went directly to the point. [I just called to tell you that all your members have arrived at the headquarters. I had Shiho brief them already, you should go meet them.]
Zold glanced at the time, seeing it was still early.
"Alright. Tell Shiho to tell the members to gather in the meeting room." He said, then asked. "Anything else?"
[That’s all. I’m still looking for missions for your squad.]
Hearing that, Zold didn’t hesitate to drop the call.
---
Hyotokye, Demon Hunter Association Headquarters.
Entering through the doorway, Zold’s appearance immediately attracted a lot of gazes.
Partly because of his looks, but largely because of his foreign appearance.
"He’s a foreigner, isn’t he? He’s... quite handsome!"
"He’s wearing a demon hunter uniform... which squad is he joining?"
"Hm, what’s he doing here? Is he the assistance sent by other nations? I heard the Global Summit made that possible..."
Whispers echoed in the hallways, but Zold paid them no heed, walking steadily.
Soon, he found their squad’s personal room.
A signboard was plastered on top — "Exclusive Room of the 13th Demon Hunter Squad". 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
Facing the door, Zold saw that it was already open. He pushed it slightly.
Creak...
Inside the room, there were already three members present.
One was a middle-aged man with a mature appearance and a thin build. He had a sleep mask covering his eyes, while his head hung to the back as he sat, sleeping in an uncomfortable position.
Then, the other one was a young woman with pale white skin, seemingly at high school age. She had long, dark-blue hair, silky and smooth. Her gaze was slightly lowered, the metal table reflecting her dark pupils and expressionless face.
As for the other one, it was Namita.
Including himself, there was still one more member missing.
Zold furrowed his brows, but at that moment, he sensed someone approach him from the back.
"Uhh, excuse me..."
Turning around, he saw a thin young man with yellow hair. He had a mole on his left eye, and he was rubbing his cheeks awkwardly while looking at Zold, seemingly surprised by his foreign appearance.
"Hey, a foreigner!"
The young man exclaimed in the Nihono language. Seeing Zold, his lips curved into an easy smile, seemingly pleased.
However, he suddenly realized that the other party might not have understood his words.
’Alright!’
"Haw arwe ywou dwoing?"
The young man suddenly spoke in a broken language, rubbing his chin confidently.
Hearing the commotion, Namita and the young woman inside the room slowly turned their heads, seeing the two of them in the doorway.
But after seeing them, the young woman quickly lost interest, lowering her gaze once more.
But Namita watched with interest, seemingly entertained.
Zold glanced at the young man expressionlessly.
’Did he not understand me...?’
Hearing no response, the young man thought he had done something wrong. He scratched the back of his head as he flashed a toothy smile.
"So... sworry?"
He apologized, his accent heavily affecting his delivery, making him appear unserious.
"Get inside."
Zold spoke in Nihono, surprising the young man.
"You could speak Nihono, after all!"
The young man widened his eyes.
Ignoring him, Zold entered inside, the young man following him from behind.
"Hey, you’re going inside too? This is the 13th Demon Hunter Squad..."
Then, as if a realization hit him, the young man suddenly stopped, looking at Zold in shock.
"Wait, are you..."
Zold walked in the center. His back was straight, and his eyes were piercing and cold.
He introduced himself concisely.
"I’m Zold Starks, the Captain of the 13th Demon Hunter Squad."
Hearing that, the young man and the young girl slightly widened their eyes, one shocked silly and the other slightly perplexed.
They didn’t expect their captain to be a foreigner.
Then, the one with a sleeping mask seemingly woke up from his words.
He looked at Zold and Namita, seemingly surprised as well.
Although they were briefed beforehand that this squad would be special, they didn’t expect to be teamed up with foreigners.
Not that they minded, but they had never seen a foreign Demon Hunter before.
Zold glanced at the young man who was still in a shocked state.
"Take a seat."
Hearing that, the young man snapped from his daze and quickly sat down on one of the chairs.
As he sat, his expression was unbalanced, as if he had stepped on shit.
’I might’ve offended my boss on my first day! Noooo!’
Internally, he was screaming at himself.
Ignoring the blatant anxiousness in the young man’s face, Zold continued.
"Since this is our first meeting, everyone will do an introduction."
Although he had already read their files last night, he still wanted to hear them introduce themselves personally.
Recalling last night, Zold inwardly sighed in a tired way. He was right to be worried about Nagito’s handpicked members.
While they weren’t weak, they had quite... troublesome personalities, to say the least.
Seeing no one volunteering yet, Zold glanced at Namita with a piercing gaze.
Namita quickly understood. He swept his gaze to everyone in the room, nodding slightly before speaking in Nihono.
"I’ll go first. I’m Namita Hajin. I used to be a detective. My talent is related to fighting."
Looking at him, the others couldn’t help but take note of Namita’s dead eyes and emotionless way of speaking.
’He looks quite gloomy...’
The young man thought, shifting uncomfortably. He looked at the others, but they also looked at him.
At that moment, he sensed Zold’s gaze land on him.
He stiffened up, rubbing his cheeks nervously. To cover up his nervousness, he forced himself to smile.
"Yo, I’m Akihito Sanada. I’m currently a high-school student. I like to play baseball. My idol is Satoshi Inoue... I think I’m pretty good at fighting. My talent is called Lucky Dice! I can state something I want, roll a dice, and the result differs depending on my luck."
After his introduction, Akihito glanced at Zold nervously. He saw the man nod at him with a hint of approval.
He sighed in relief, his expression relaxing.
’Okay! I think that removed my initial bad impression...’
After him, the next one to go was the middle-aged man.
When one looked at him, they would immediately notice his abyssally dark eye bags, as if he hadn’t slept in a day of his life.
He spoke in a low tone.
"I’m Seiji Haruma. I used to be a salaryman. My ability is called Overtime. I can move twice as fast as an ordinary person for a period of time."
The others nodded, and Akihito couldn’t help but speak joyfully.
"Nice to meet you, Seiji-san!"
Seiji was surprised, but then nodded slightly.
"Nice to meet you."
Zold nodded, finding Akihito more and more to his liking. At least there was a normal person in this team.
After Seiji, the next one was the aloof young girl sitting alone.
"... Ayase Kikyo. My ability is Blossom Field. I can summon flowers that can attack and support me."
Akihito smiled at her, greeting her politely.
"Nice to meet you, Ayase-san!"
But Ayase simply nodded at him and then lowered her gaze again.
Akihito didn’t mind, smiling casually.
After their introductions, Zold swept his gaze around the room and spoke slowly.
"Nice to meet you all. I’m Zold Starks, your captain for the foreseeable future. I already know all your backgrounds and past. Let me tell you now: I don’t care who you were and who you are now. I only care about your purpose and contribution to this team.’
"As your captain, I only have one rule."
He paused, sweeping his gaze to everyone before continuing.
"Listen to me during missions. Don’t act on your decisions, understand?"
The others couldn’t help but nod, feeling pressured by his gaze.
Zold glanced at Akihito.
"Another thing. If you’re late for meetings, don’t bother showing up."
Akihito’s expression suddenly stiffened.
However, Zold continued expressionlessly.
"Our 13th Demon Hunter Squad is relatively special. We only report to the chairman. Right now, the chairman doesn’t have any suitable missions for us. But be prepared to be called at any moment."
"Alright, meeting dismissed."
After saying that, Zold was first to leave the room, then Namita followed.
Akihito glanced at the remaining two, but Seiji covered his face with an eye mask and slept again.
Ayase ignored him, playing with a small rose in her hands.
’What did I get myself into...’
Akihito inwardly sighed.
---
Night quickly passed.
In a hidden alleyway in Hyoteke, Shinjuku Ward, four rough-looking middle-aged men were ganging up against one salaryman.
The salaryman’s face was full of bruises, his lips bleeding terribly. He lay on the ground pathetically, grabbing one of the middle-aged man’s legs as he begged desperately.
"Where is my daughter... please... where did you take her?!"
One of them sneered, mocking him.
"It’s too late! She’s gone! Tsk, tsk... You should’ve paid your loans sooner."
"N... no... no!"
Hearing that, the salaryman screamed, full of unwillingness.
"Impossible!!"
"You’re lying... you’re lying...! Give me back my daughter!"
The four loansharks frowned, feeling annoyed.
"Shut up!"
One of them clicked their tongue and raised their foot, stepping on the salary man’s neck.
Crack!
The salaryman died instantly, his face in disbelief.
The four loansharks exchanged a glance and then shrugged, leaving the place.
But at that moment, a red energy suddenly came from the sky and entered the salaryman’s body.
Shake...
The salaryman’s body trembled, his eyes turning red.
If Zold were here, he’d recognize this as a demonic spirit possession/
It was at least a Tier II Demon-class.
The salaryman fixed his neck, causing a loud cracking sound.
Crack!
At that moment, the four loansharks looked back.
"Huh?"
"He’s still not dead yet?"
One of the loansharks frowned, quickly raising his hand and unleashing a lightning attack.
But to his shock, the salaryman took on his attack without any damage.
The salaryman spoke slowly.
"Where did... you... take... my daughter?"
Feeling creeped out, the loansharks stepped back, looking at him strangely.
At that moment, the salaryman disappeared.
Woosh!
Then, he reappeared behind them.
"Body Assimilation."
In that instant, the salaryman reached out, and his hand turned gigantic, capturing the four loansharks simultaneously.
Inside his palm, their bodies stiffened.
The next second, their skin rippled unnaturally, as though something beneath it had begun to move.
Their bones cracked, muscles compressed, and their organs turned flat.
Soon, their bodies sank into the salaryman’s flesh, merging with him.
Then, a moment later, four identical figures spawned from the demon’s body.
"Find... my... daughter..."
The Demon of Sentiment, known to be obsessed with attachment, hoarsely ordered.
