Global Disaster: I Will Slay Gods In This Second Chance!-Chapter 51: Kyokutso Family Disappearance
Three days passed silently.
Zold opened his eyes, feeling as if his spiritual energy qualitatively transformed.
Two skills flashed in his mind: [Darkness Control] and [Metal Control].
With a thought, he could conjure darkness from nothing, controlling it like an extra limb.
Likewise, he could harden or soften any object, adjusting its texture with a mere touch.
Besides that, he could sense that his effectiveness in using darkness and metal skills had doubled.
"The next one is Ice Control."
After a successful comprehension, Zold set a new goal for himself.
His goal was to fully master all of the spiritual-energy types he had.
With his current speed, it would take him at least a month to accomplish that.
Zold stood up and decided to take a shower, feeling a bit sweaty,
After a while, he stepped outside the bathroom, fully refreshed.
Ring~
At that moment, his phone buzzed on the table.
He glanced at it and saw that Nagito was calling him again after three days.
’Perhaps...?’
Zold thought to himself as he grabbed his phone and answered the call.
"Nagito?"
Zold asked, probing him.
[Where are you? I got you your first mission. Come to my office, I’ll give you the details.]
Zold’s eyes narrowed. He replied calmly.
"Okay."
---
Hyotokye, Demon Hunter Association Headquarters.
Coming out of Nagito’s office, Zold wore a dark military-style coat and black trousers, unintentionally increasing the weight of his presence.
This was the uniform of Demon Hunters in Nihono.
He informed the entire group through his phone to gather in the meeting room.
Walking towards their meeting room, he noticed that it was already open.
Someone arrived before him.
He pushed the door slightly, seeing Ayase alone in the room.
With her pale white skin and long dark-blue hair, she seemed especially lonely.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Ayase turned her head and saw him. She thought for a moment before nodding.
Zold nodded back as well. He walked in the center and crossed his arms silently.
He had thought that the silence would be awkward, but it didn’t seem so.
It was oddly peaceful.
Not long after, the other members of the 13th Demon Hunter Squad arrived.
The first one to arrive was Akihito, which came as a surprise to Zold.
"Good morning, Captain."
"Good morning, Ayase."
Akihito entered the room and cheerfully greeted the two of them.
After him, Seiji was next. He nodded at everyone before sitting down, keeping quiet,
Unexpectedly, the last one to arrive was Namite.
Namite glanced at everyone and nodded quietly.
Once all of the members of the 13th Demon Hunter Squad arrived, Zold walked to the center of the room.
"Everyone."
Zold paused, then continued.
"The Chairman has assigned us our first mission."
Hearing that, everyone’s expressions turned serious.
Akihito straightened up, turning solemn.
"Listen carefully so I don’t have to repeat myself." He said softly. "The first mission is rated A-class, an expected threat of a rogue Awakener with A-rank talent. This is the level of caliber of our standard missions, so be used to this."
Zold swept his gaze through the room.
"The case is called ’Kyokutso Family Disappearance’."
"On April 30, 2025, five families in the Kyokutso Ward were reported to be missing while the nation was in a lockdown. Strangely, there were no clues, traces, or even hints that the family would leave beforehand. Moreover, after reviewing security footage near each family’s residence, they didn’t leave the house at all."
"This led the police to assume the entire family was kidnapped or murdered instead."
"The police suspect the murderer is a rogue Awakener of at least A-rank. Their conclusion comes from the fact that the kidnappings or murders were carried out undetected, despite the heavy patrols and surveillance in Kyokutso Ward."
"Now, any questions?"
The four exchanged glances with one another, shaking their heads.
"Okay."
Zold nodded slightly. He adjusted his black coat as he glanced at everyone.
"Let’s go. We’ll be driving to Kyokutso Ward."
Hearing that, nobody wasted any more time.
---
Outside the headquarters, the 13th Demon Hunter Squad stood in front of a black van, wearing the iconic dark coat uniform of the Demon Hunter Association.
All of them opened the door and hopped inside.
For this operation, the one who volunteered to drive was Seiji.
Namita wasn’t familiar with Nihono, and the other two didn’t have a license.
Zold didn’t want to drive, so he let him be.
Brmm!
As Seiji started up the engine, his eyes turned unusually serious.
Then, with a flicker of his wrist.
Chck!
The engine hummed, and the car surged forward, causing the other members in the back to jolt in surprise.
Fortunately, the physical bodies of Awakeners were strong, so they managed to adjust their balance almost immediately.
The four of them immediately looked at Seiji, whose eyes were fixated on the road, with a dumbfounded expression.
’So he likes driving...’
Zold thought, massaging his forehead.
As they drove towards Kyokutso Ward, the van was entirely silent.
With Zold’s indifferent personality, Ayase’s cold and gloomy expression, and Namita’s lifeless appearance, Akihito fidgeted uncomfortably, screaming internally.
He was certain that he was the only one who found the silence to be extremely awkward.
’Guys, we’re a squad!’
Thinking for a moment, Akihito glanced at everyone in the van.
’Captain-san doesn’t seem like he wants to talk...’
’Ayase-san even more... she ignored me last time...’
His gaze lingered on Namita, lighting up.
’It’s Namita-san then! I choose you!’
Seemingly sensing a gaze on him, Namita looked back, furrowing his brows.
Akihito smiled at him, asking curiously.
"Hey, Namita-san. Since you’re a former detective, can you tell me which is the worst case you encountered?"
Namita glanced at Akihito, sensing his thoughts.
Feeling as if he was seen through, Akihito felt like he was being judged by Namita’s dead eyes.
But he kept his bright smile, not allowing himself to falter.
As an average modern high school student, what embarrassing situation hasn’t he been through?!
Since the trip was long anyway, Namita agreed.
"Alright."
"One of the worst cases I encountered was a family suicide."
Hearing that, Akihito widened his eyes.
Sitting beside Ayase, Zold noticed that she fidgeted uncomfortably.
Akihito and Namita were about to continue, but then a cold voice interrupted them.
"Change the topic."
Zold suddenly said.
Hearing that, Ayase glanced at Zold in surprise but said nothing.
Akihito didn’t understand, but Namita did.
Namita shrugged, changing the story.
"Another case then. The Harbor Butcher. It was truly a deadly, terrifying, and chilling experience."
Akihito couldn’t help but raise his brows, curious. Although Namita’s expressions needed some work, he’ll just imagine that the man really felt that way.
"What’s that?"
Akihito asked, leaning forward.
Namita paused, then continued in a low tone.
"In that case, there was a serial killer in a rural village. I was assigned there to investigate with a companion. The serial killer was smart, methodical, and left no traces at all. It was his eighth murder, and the victim was an abusive father who locked his children in his home."
Akihito frowned. "That’s... horrible."
He immediately added:
"The father, I mean."
"Yeah," Namita said, nodding slightly. "Me and my companion investigated for a week, trying to find that Butcher Harbor."
Akihito asked. "Did you find them?"
Namita paused, looking in the air distantly, as if the memories of that case still lingered in his mind like it happened yesterday.
He shook his head.
"Unfortunately, no. He disappeared as if he didn’t exist."
Akihito furrowed his brows. "Wait, isn’t that dangerous then?!"
"It should be okay," Namita said, somewhat calmly. "I mean, from the patterns they show... they only kill evil people."
Then, he paused, as if realizing something.
"... Akihito, are you evil?"
Namita asked, staring at him intently.
"Huh?!" Akihito waved his hands hurriedly. "No, no. Definitely not!"
"Hmm..."
Namita stared at him for a while, causing Akihito to sweat bullets.
After a brief pause, he nodded.
"It should be ok then."
Akihito sighed in relief. He glared at Namita.
"Namita-san, what the heck! You scared me!"
Listening on the side, Zold fell silent.
What Harbor Butcher?
’That’s you though...’
