Global Disaster: I Will Slay Gods In This Second Chance!-Chapter 56: Brilliance of Children
On the left side of the western area, the other three members of the 13th Demon Hunter Squad stopped, gazing at the empty street in front of them.
Akihito scanned the place, his brows furrowing.
"The Captain said that there are three rogue awakeners here... but how can we find them?"
As he said this, he glanced at Ayase and Seiji.
Ayase was silent, as if she hadn’t heard him.
Seiji rubbed his chin, thinking deeply as well. His talent was called [Overtime], and it wasn’t exactly a talent that could be used to find people.
Seeing that they were troubled as well, Akihito wasn’t surprised. He furrowed his brows.
’Should I use my talent...?’
His talent was called [Lucky Dice].
It had two skills: [Dice of Possibilities] and [High Roll].
[Dice of Possibilities — Allows the user to state a preferred outcome or wish and roll a six-sided die. The higher the number, the more likely the user’s wish to come true. But the lower the total of the dice, the opposite of the user’s wish will happen instead.]
[High Roll — Forcefully change the dice results to the highest possible number. 1 day cooldown.]
’I can use Dice of Possibilities to wish to be able to find all of them, but that requires luck.’
Akihito thought, finding the idea plausible. The only problem was that if his luck was bad, then he might not be able to find them at all.
’But I’m confident with my luck. Well, not 100% confident...’
But compared to looking around cluelessly, it was better to take the risk.
Who knows if every second they wasted meant more families disappearing?
He frowned silently.
But this was a team, he still needed the others’ thoughts before deciding on something.
Akihito glanced at Ayase and Seiji, sharing his thoughts with them.
After a brief explanation, Seiji nodded slightly.
"It could work. The luck part is worrying, but it’s better than having no lead at all."
Akihito nodded as well. He shifted his gaze, looking at the ever-silent Ayase.
"How about you, Ayase? What do you..."
But the moment he looked at Ayase, his words died down mid-sentence.
His eyes widened in shock, a brilliant idea appearing in his mind.
Unaware of his enlightenment, Ayase nodded silently.
"Okay."
"No, wait!"
Akihiko covered his mouth, the idea on his mind becoming better and better.
"This could actually work...!"
His eyes sparkled as a wide grin broke out on his face.
"What could work?" Seiji raised his eyebrows, confused by his sudden outburst.
Hearing his question, Akihito snapped out of his thoughts, looking at the two of them with excitement.
"Forget what I just said. I got a better idea instead!"
Seiji and Ayase furrowed their brows, looking at his excited expression, then decided to listen.
"It’s simple!"
Akihito said, then looked at Ayase. Then, the corner of his lips rose, speaking confidently:
"Ayase-san, you’re going to be Seiji-san’s daughter!"
At that moment, Ayase and Seiji immediately fell silent.
"Think about it!" Akihito grinned, sharing his plan. "Aren’t these rogue awakeners just controlled by a demonic spirit? For whatever reason, this demonic spirit is hell-bent on looking for families with daughters. It’s using these rogue awakeners to spy or eavesdrop in each house!"
"How about we just lead them here to us by pretending that Ayase is your daughter?"
Ayase and Seiji were speechless, but after a moment of thought, they couldn’t find any reason to disagree.
Despite how absurd it sounded, his words were... indeed logical and sound.
But this still didn’t stop Ayase from glaring at Akihito.
Akihito shuddered, noticing her glare. He immediately said: "If you don’t want Seiji as your father, I..."
Ayase’s glare sharpened even more, threatening to tear him apart.
Akihito was tongue-tied, shutting up for the sake of his life.
After a brief pause, Ayase sighed, shaking her head.
"... Okay."
Akihito sighed in relief. He looked at Seiji, smiling widely. "Alright, Seiji-san... now just shout that Ayase is your daughter!"
Hearing that, Seiji opened his mouth, then closed it.
Reluctance flashed in his face.
Was he really going to shout that...?
Akihito’s expectant gaze made Seiji feel even more pressured.
Thinking of the importance of this mission, he resigned to his fate.
Seiji cleared his throat, then he bellowed.
"Ayase-san... my daughter...!"
His deep voice echoed in the entire street, spreading far and white like a wandering echo.
Seiji’s eyes lowered, feeling a hot sense of shame.
This was for the sake of their mission.
Ayase fell silent.
Akihito also fell silent, waiting.
A while passed, and no one appeared.
Seiji stared at Akihito, his eyes seemingly sinking deep into the latter’s soul.
Akihito quietly rubbed his cheeks, chuckling nervously.
"Maybe... you should try again?"
Seiji was about to say something, but he suddenly stopped, his eyes shifting elsewhere.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh?
At that moment, three humanoid figures crawled out of the shadows, coming from different directions.
One on the left, and two on the right.
Their gazes went past Akihito and Seiji, landing on Ayase.
Once they saw Ayase, their bodies quivered, eyes widening into great surprise.
Their gazes fixed on her, as if she were the only one they could see.
Seeing the three crawling awakeners, the three members of the 13th Demon Hunter Squad frowned deeply.
"I’ll take the one on the left."
Seiji said calmly as he glanced at the crawling woman on the left.
"Okay." Akihito nodded slightly. Then, he glanced at Ayase. "Which one do you want to fight?"
But instead of answering, Ayase simply walked away, approaching the two on the right by herself.
Akihito and Seiji’s brows furrowed.
But at that moment, the woman on the left showed signs of moving, forcing Seiji to act immediately.
"Akihito-san, help Ayase-san. I’ll take care of this one."
As he said this, Seiji immediately vanished, turning into a blur.
Akihito snapped out of his daze, clenching his fist as he shouted:
"Okay!"
Then, he looked at Ayase and called out to her.
"Ayase-san, wait for me... huh?"
But at that moment, Ayase suddenly bent down and closed her eyes.
Akihito was confused but didn’t stop running.
"Ayase-san!? What are you doing!?"
Seeing her vulnerable and defenseless, the two crawling awakeners vanished, turning into blurs.
Whoosh!
To Akihito’s horror, they were incredibly fast!
In a split second, they were already in front of Ayase, ready to strike!
"Ayase-san...!"
Akihito’s expression changed. He immediately used his two skills and rolled the dice to increase his speed to the limit.
Skipping the process and immediately changing the result to six, the world around him suddenly slowed down.
He arrived at Ayase’s back, ready to save her.
But then, at that moment, Ayase opened her eyes.
Akihito and Seiji felt their hearts skipping a beat, looking at Ayase’s position.
As she knelt down, flowers emerged from her surroundings.
The crawling awakeners stopped.
At that moment, the flowers bloomed, releasing crimson pollen.
The two crawling awakeners in front of her felt the red pollen touch them, entering their bodies.
"Die."
Ayase said coldly.
As if her word was law, the two crawling awakeners slowly burned from the crimson red pollen, turning into dust.
Akihito widened his eyes, mouth agape.
On the left, Seiji had already killed his opponent. His body was bloodied, and he had a long, sharp tear on his body. To his surprise, the crawling awakeners weren’t weak at all.
While in battle, he realized that each of the crawling awakeners likely had at least Tier III strength.
Caught off guard, he was terribly wounded.
But once he knew this, he immediately went serious to help the kids immediately.
Seiji stared at Ayase, seeing her lonely expression.
But...
"..."
Ayase let out a small sigh.
Then, the flowers vanished.
