Global Game: Developing a Knight Clan-Chapter 95 - 94: Massive Uprising in the Demon Beast Mountain Range, a Tier Nine Sub-dragon
He checked the time.
It was now just a few minutes past four in the afternoon.
There were still nearly eight hours until the next deduction.
Lince lazily stretched and then, out of habit, opened a video streaming site.
After all, Lince was curious about the situation with the second-wave Players.
And what do you know, the first video he opened was a Player’s furious rant.
It was a young, but already bald, man. He looked completely tilted, and he got straight to the point right from the start.
"Damn it, what is this garbage game!"
"Didn’t they say the first playthrough was a mode where you choose your subsequent gameplay through story options? And that you pretty much can’t die?!"
"Come on, you damn beta testers! You tell me, what the hell is this instant-kill at the start?!!!"
As he spoke, the view switched from the man himself to a screen recording.
It looked like a recording of a computer screen, filmed externally with a phone. It wasn’t very high-definition, but you could still clearly see the man’s entire gameplay session.
At the start of the recording, the man followed the procedure and chose the Human Race.
The computer screen then quickly went black before lighting up again. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
In the next moment, the man’s random character was selected!
Judging by the scene, the man was in some kind of prison.
Inside this prison were many other humans, and the environment looked terrible.
Then, the story options appeared on the man’s screen.
One: Kill all the humans in the cell to determine subsequent gameplay.
Two: Lead all the humans in the cell to secretly pick the lock and escape, to determine subsequent gameplay.
Three: Do not escape. Wait for an opportunity, to determine subsequent gameplay.
Faced with these three choices, if it were the Lince of today, he figured he would choose option three. It was the safest bet, after all.
But if it were back at the beginning, when he didn’t know how special True Game was, he probably would have chosen option two.
As for option one, Lince would never even consider it. But for many Players who like to mess around, if they didn’t know the truth about True Game, option one would definitely be a popular choice.
As for the man in the video, he actually played it safe and chose option three.
And what happened after he chose the story option?
The gameplay was lone wolf style. There were no starting rewards or anything.
Moreover, just as time seemed to start flowing, a humanoid creature that Lince found rather familiar suddenly appeared outside the prison.
It had blue skin all over and stood about two and a half meters tall.
It was clearly one of the humanoid creatures Lince had encountered before the second map.
This blue-skinned person had two horns on its head. It looked somewhat old and stooped, but the Magic Robe it wore was quite exquisite.
When this blue-skinned mage reached the cell where the man from the video was, it merely gave an indifferent glance at the fewer than thirty humans inside.
Then, it began to mutter, and in the next second, rays of gray light formed a glowing orb in its hand.
The moment the orb appeared, it instantly fired off a massive number of rays.
The rays shot toward the humans in the cell, and the man was unable to avoid being pierced by one.
A hole appeared in his forehead, and the screen froze.
[You died to a Giant Mage’s soul reaping. Game over.]
???
It wasn’t just the guy in the video who couldn’t handle it; even Lince was finding it a bit much.
’Has the game environment for the second wave really gotten this harsh?’
’Or is this just an isolated case?’
Lince kept scrolling. ’Damn,’ he thought. He came across several more videos of people dying right at the start.
And one video in particular made it even harder for Lince to keep a straight face.
"HOLY SHIT!!! What the hell?"
"I started as a Skeleton, and before I could even bash a few Skeleton minions’ heads in, you’re telling me I just died like that?"
"If I’d been killed by some other monster, I’d just accept it. But the key thing is, I was killed by the damn Chief Player! Screw you, you son of a bitch! What kind of asshole Chief is this?!"
"Aren’t you supposed to be in the freaking Western Realm? How the hell did you get to the Land of the Dead? This is so messed up."
That’s right.
The Player in this video was a guy who had reincarnated in the Great Tomb during the second wave.
And he was the unlucky bastard who got swept up in the Tornado while Lince was on a killing spree in the first level of the Space.
[You died to the Chief Player’s Hurricane Technique. Game over.]
The big, bright words on the screen confirmed that Lince was, indeed, the one to blame.
In the guy’s gameplay video, there was no sign of a Giant Dragon from beginning to end.
The only thing visible was a terrifying Tornado that suddenly whipped up, and then the guy was sucked right into it.
His body was torn to pieces, his skull battered around in the wind, and eventually, his Soul Fire dissipated.
And on that note, the screen froze.
Lince felt pretty helpless about it.
’What could I do? In a situation like that, I couldn’t possibly worry about whether there were other Players among the Undead.’
’Some people are just unlucky.’
’Who can you blame for your own bad luck?’
’Next.’
Lince tried his best to filter for videos about second-wave Players entering the Second World.
However, since the second-wave Players had only just started entering the game, with many not even having finished their first session, there were still too few videos and too little information.
Lince wasn’t in a hurry, though.
He would just wait for the deduction after midnight tonight. The situation in the New World would naturally become clear then.
So, Lince decided to go downstairs, buy some groceries to cook for himself, and make himself a nice meal for dinner.
And just as Lince was heading out, at the very moment his in-game character returned to its forest...
「On a peak in the Outer Mountains of the Demon Beast Mountain Range.」
Two Tier Six Quasi-Overlord Level Demon Beasts were meeting there.
One was an oversized Sparrow.
The other was a two-headed wolf.
"Those Low Tier Magical Beasts down in the Wilderness have really been kicking up a storm, following that whelp around."
"Stupid wolf, has there been any word from our Master? Has that whelp’s identity been confirmed?"
The Sparrow, with a wingspan of over thirty meters, landed. It asked the two-headed wolf nonchalantly while preening its feathers with its beak.
"You stupid bird, why do you care so much?!"
"Let the whelp play if it wants to. It saves us the trouble of arranging a Beast Tide every time to remind those greedy humans!"
One of the two-headed wolf’s heads said this.
But its second head shook in disagreement.
"No, my brother, we can’t think that way."
"We can pretend we don’t see the whelp, but if it dies in the Wilderness, we could be in big trouble."
"Dragon Meat, Dragon Blood, Dragon Bones... those are priceless treasures to those greedy humans. With that whelp fooling around like this, I’m really worried it will attract the attention of some strong human."
"If this whelp dies in the Wilderness, do you think the Sub-dragon lords within the mountain range will listen to our explanation?"
Just the thought of the whelp dying in the Wilderness and facing the wrath of an Overlord Level Sub-dragon made the second wolf head shudder involuntarily.
Hearing this, the Sparrow laughed.
"See? This head of yours is pretty smart."
"Besides, I’ve actually had my doubts for a while."
"For a Sub-dragon Species, what kind of status must it have to sneak out from the depths of the mountains for so long without being discovered? I find it far too strange."
"Logically, word should have come from those masters deep in the mountains by now—whether to escort it back or to use it as leverage for some benefit. But there’s been absolutely no news at all."
"Don’t you find that a little strange?"
The Sparrow mused, but the first of the two-headed wolf’s heads continued nonchalantly:
"What’s so strange about it? Every one of those Overlords is an ancient monster. They could sleep for who knows how many years at a time. It hasn’t been that long. What’s so strange?"
"As for our master, I sent a wolf cub to ask dozens of days ago. There should be news soon. We just have to wait. What else can we do?"
The other wolf head nodded at the right moment.
"Yes, in this situation, it’s best to wait."
"After all, if we try to protect the whelp, it might not end well for us. Besides, we don’t know our master’s attitude toward the Sub-dragon clans, or which Beast Master’s banner he serves under. For now, ignoring it is actually the best course of action."
The Sparrow listened and nodded as well.
After all, it had only come this time to ask the two-headed wolf for news.
For now, all the Tier Six Demon Beasts on the mountain peaks were keeping a respectful distance from the whelp that had appeared in the Wilderness.
However, just as these two Quasi-Overlords were conversing on the peak...
Suddenly, from the other side of the peak—from the plains deep in the mountains behind the Outer Mountains—countless trees began to topple, accompanied by a series of tremendous ROARS!
Clearly, only a colossal Demon Beast could cause such an effect.
And along with the roars came the sounds of a massive number of Entry Tier Magical Beasts running and bellowing.
At the same time, a dense swarm of entry-tier avian beasts took to the sky.
Seeing this, the Sparrow’s gaze sharpened, while the two-headed wolf scrambled to its feet, both heads showing a mixture of fear and excitement.
"It’s been so many years! Almost five hundred, hasn’t it?"
"An Overlord has finally come to the Outer Mountains again. I just don’t know if it’s for the whelp, or if it’s finally time for a large-scale crusade against the greedy Human Race."
The two-headed wolf had a complicated expression, but the Sparrow remained silent, merely staring into the distance with its sharp eyes.
Finally, the enormous Sparrow Demon Beast spoke in a panicked and heavy tone.
"Perhaps it’s both of the situations you mentioned!"
"More than one Overlord has come this time!"
"The one in the lead is the Tier Nine Lord Earth Dragon! And accompanying him is not only Lord Demon Bull, but also more than ten other Overlords I’ve never seen before!"
The Sparrow cried out in alarm and immediately shot into the sky, as if to welcome the Overlord Level Demon Beasts of the Demon Beast Mountain Range!
At the same time, the entire side of the Outer Mountains in the nearby Demon Beast Mountain Range was thrown into an uproar.
More than a dozen Tier Six Flying Demon Beasts took off from all over, leading their clans to greet the procession of Overlord Level Demon Beasts.
It was only then that the two-headed wolf, still standing on the peak, got a clear view.
As another hundred-meter-tall giant tree collapsed, a behemoth over three hundred meters long and fifty meters tall at the shoulder appeared.
It was shaped like a turtle, its body covered in thick, uneven skin that resembled jagged rock.
A single glance was enough to make the two-headed wolf tremble all over.
Behind this so-called Earth Dragon, three more Tier Eight behemoths appeared, followed by sixteen Tier Seven Overlord Demon Beasts.
At the same time, high in the distant sky, a terrifying creature poked its head out from the clouds!
It was another Tier Nine Sub-dragon!
This Sub-dragon’s entire body was a fiery crimson. It was serpentine in shape, over two hundred meters long, with a flat head and piercing eyes.
As it looked down upon the earth, all the countless Demon Beasts on the mountain peaks felt a profound sense of terror.
In its retinue were more than twenty avian Overlord Demon Beasts, among which were even seven or eight Overlord Sub-dragons and ’Little Sub-dragons’ of Sub-dragon Bloodline.
The vast army of Demon Beasts surged forth. Led by the two Tier Nine Sub-dragons, more than six thousand Entry Tier Magical Beasts poured out from the depths of the Demon Beast Mountain Range, while the horde of Tierless Demon Beasts numbered at least three hundred thousand.
The Human Race’s war in the Eastern Realm had not yet ended, and already the Demon Beast Mountain Range was making its move.
One could well imagine that the Overlords of the Demon Beast Mountain Range were not oblivious to the outside world. In fact, this very mobilization was likely a calculated strike, taken with full knowledge of the war in the Eastern Realm.
