Chapter 410: Several Different Approaches

As time passed, these Tech Combat Clerics gradually adapted to the Church of Technology’s combat style.

First came heavy firepower to clear the battlefield, then they’d carefully clear out an area, call in supply airdrops, establish a base, set up defensive systems, occupy a region, ensure all regions could communicate with each other, and finally completely transform a large area.

Compared to their previous devastating offensive, this attack method was obviously slower. But facing these monsters with incredible vitality who didn’t need to eat or drink, it was actually a pretty good choice.

Otherwise, nobody could guarantee whether there were still ice spirits active in areas they’d already swept through. Without a stable rear, the threat from these infectious ice spirits would definitely be enormous.

But was this really enough?

In Roster territory.

Wild Mage and the others were watching the livestream when suddenly the apprentice seemed to think of something. "I think we should completely upgrade the Tech Combat Clerics’ equipment!"

"Upgrade?"

Wild Mage was a bit confused. "Can’t they already push forward pretty easily without any casualties?"

"But is that enough?" The apprentice didn’t quite agree with Wild Mage’s words. "I think this training operation isn’t just for the combat clerics—it’s also training for us."

"What do you mean?" Wild Mage was stunned, then suddenly understood. "You mean it’s also letting us see battlefield conditions so we can upgrade weapons and equipment? But I don’t see anything wrong with this equipment."

"If we’re talking about our world, sure, this is already pretty good. Steady progress, even against a group of legendary magicians, we could grind them down. But facing an unknown otherworld? That’s not necessarily true."

The apprentice sighed and continued, "Plus, I think their current approach is still a bit slow. I think we can use magic conductors to speed up the process and adjust the focus of combat." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Hearing the apprentice’s words, Wild Mage and the others honestly had trouble understanding. "What do you think we should do?"

"I think the crushing opening of a war shouldn’t be like it is now—rolling out super cannons or dropping legendary magic conductor bombs, then moving to the next step. Forget everything else, but at minimum, this method could potentially threaten our combat clerics, and we can’t necessarily accurately determine what happened to each enemy."

Before Wild Mage and the others could ask questions, the apprentice continued with a smile. "I think we should adjust our combat focus. The opening should be aerial combat units conducting heavy firepower sweeps and eliminating all gathering points and such."

"Also, use our detection devices to identify enemies in areas we can’t attack."

"After the aerial combat units finish the battle, heavy armor units and some combat clerics go in together for a second cleanup, attacking any survivors who might have cover, and completely occupy a certain area."

"Then we conduct the aerial supply drops and other actions for final cleanup."

Wild Mage and the others listened to the apprentice’s words. They knew this person had a flexible mind and could think of many things they couldn’t.

But after listening, they were slightly stunned. "You mean establish an aerial combat force to conduct the first wave of attacks, then stick with the original strategy after that?"

Now Wild Mage was confused. He didn’t understand what the point was.

The problems the apprentice was worried about couldn’t possibly happen on the ice spirit battlefield!

Facing these mindless things, what could go wrong with opening up with artillery and dropping bombs right from the start?

"This isn’t a small matter."

The apprentice seemed to see what they were thinking and said with a smile, "I call it air superiority. Yes, right now we’re facing these guys without much intelligence. When we fire super cannons at them, they don’t know to dodge. When we drop magic conductor bombs, they don’t know to throw them back or run away. But what kind of enemies will we face in the future?"

"Our training isn’t just about clearing the area north of the watch wall!"

"But if we have an aerial combat force, the situation would be completely different. We could attack them, but they couldn’t attack us. That’s ’air superiority.’ Once we control the air, whoever we target—whether they’re intelligent beings or whatever—we’ll be in an invincible position."

The apprentice’s words left them silent.

Honestly, this wasn’t quite what they’d imagined.

But thinking it over carefully, they felt this combat mode actually seemed pretty solid.

You could say that in most situations, with aerial bombardment, you really could avoid a lot of problems. If you coordinated with ground forces, combat risk would definitely drop significantly and combat efficiency would also greatly improve.

If they could also install enemy detection devices on these aerial combat units, they could even more precisely target each enemy.

The brutal close-quarters combat of traditional warfare might completely disappear.

"What ideas do you have?" Wild Mage asked.

"I’ve got a few half-baked ideas." The apprentice smiled. "Or rather, I have several directions that require everyone to work together."

Wild Mage and the others sat up straight.

If there was only one direction, they’d actually need to worry.

But if there were several directions to discuss together, the probability of success would greatly increase.

"My first approach is similar to the dragons—create lots of individual flight equipment for the combat clerics to use. Like our armor, but capable of flight. They could target enemies more precisely from the air."

"The second approach would be to build an aerial fortress. Use lots of floating runes, anti-gravity runes, acceleration runes, and other magic runes to lift a massive fortress into the sky, then conduct heavy firepower attacks on enemies."

"Of course, these two approaches could actually be combined. The aerial fortress could attack but also house large numbers of troops, letting the soldiers from the first approach be stationed in the aerial fortress to deal with more complex combat situations."

"Besides that, the third approach would be to build low-cost magic conductors that can float in the air and just drop magic conductor bombs. Using magic conductor bombs from the air—if we could make them fairly large and drop lots of them, that’d also be a pretty good idea."

"Also, we could actually try to give War Soldier 3.0 flight capabilities. But I think this method is the least advisable. It wouldn’t improve combat power that much, just increase survival probability and reconnaissance ability."

"Plus, once we upgrade in that direction, the energy problem might become really prominent."
