Chapter 160: Three Days Without Waking Up

The afternoon sky reeled like a disc, changing from afternoon to evening, and back to morning.

In the damp sheets of the bed in the room that had its door locked for days, Kai remained in the same posture.

Cool air flew in and out of his open window, brushing through his hair like a corpse awaiting burial.

...

At 6:00 AM on the morning of the second day, Lena walked toward Kai’s door as if her world had come to an end.

"Kai?" she said, knocking on the door three times. "Please, come out. It’s been two days, and you haven’t eaten anything. Please open the door."

Her worried tone lanced through the mansion like a death whisper, echoing in the hallways and down to the transparent main door. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

’Why does he always lock himself whenever I say something about Gilgal Village or Bion City?’ her thoughts reeled in her mind as she walked from the second floor to the ground floor.

Exhaling heavily, she loosened herself and relaxed her stilled body on the couch.

She pressed her face into her palms, thinking of ways to make him come out, like she did at first.

The sky outside the mansion reeled, darkness filling the bright blue sky, giving it the calmness of the night.

Countless stars filled the sky, green, white, blue, and one that kept changing colors like a disco light.

...

At 6:30 AM on the third day, Lena’s composure began to crack. Her mind began to crumple like discarded sheets.

She whirled around in her room, counting her fingers. "Should I call and inform them I won’t be able?" She stopped and glanced at her reflection in the large mirror facing her bed.

"If I don’t inform them and don’t show up too, all those that are on my list will be left unattended." She sighed heavily, lowering herself into the stuffing chair closer to the tinted sliding window.

She picked up her mobile device from the top of her dressing table, dialed an unsaved number, and placed it on her ear.

"Hello, Suzy. I won’t be able to attend work. Take over for me." The message escaped her like a thief escaping from the cops.

Her heart hammered hard against her chest after the call was hung up by the one on the other end.

"Let me call the appointment technician also." She rose from the stuffing, walked to the wardrobe, and pulled out a book containing all the hospital contacts. "I think this will go straight to the one that visited me the last time."

She pressed the power button of her device, dialed the number, then placed it on her left ear.

"Why is no one answering?" Dissatisfaction flashed through her after the second attempt went on without an answer.

"I should just give it a little space." She placed both the book and her phone on the bed and walked to the bathroom.

Under the showering tap, Lena closed her eyes as the droplets of water fell on her like holy water. It traced lines down her back, lanced through her ass, then dripped onto the tiled floor, entering the drainage.

After ten minutes, she emerged from the bathroom, a white towel wrapped around her waist. "Huh..." her eyes closed as she exhaled sharply, scrubbing a small towel through her brown hair.

"Maybe when I call again, the call will go through. I forgot they don’t come to the office early," she said, walking toward her wardrobe.

She pulled out a blue, slightly loose dress, wore it, and went to her cosmetics table. Lena applied a series of lotions on her body, from one that had a silver color on her face, one of green color on her arms, and white color on the top of her breast.

Feeling herself, she walked back to the bed, picked up the book and the mobile device, and dialed the same number again.

This time, the chiming sound echoed, indicating the other party’s device had been turned on.

"Hello, Angy," she exhaled with a little bit of satisfaction. "Cancel all my appointments for today and tomorrow. I don’t think I will make it to work."

This time, she ended the call with her own hands after the one on the other end gave her a positive answer. "Don’t worry, Doctor Lena. All the appointments will be cancelled in a few minutes. And I hope you get well soon."

Lena exhaled as the lie she had formulated looped back in her skull. "I’m sick and can’t make it to work. I will maybe be at the office in a day or two."

She giggled slightly, then threw the phone onto the bed. She exited her room, slowing her steps as she reached Kai’s door. "This is becoming worse," she murmured, shaking her head.

"I think I need to make Jinx try and talk to him. Maybe he will listen to her more than me. She is the perfect person that knows what has been traumatizing Kai."

Lena broke off the thoughts and walked toward the kitchen. There, she prepared toasted bread, one for the three of them and two for the securities keeping guard of her estate.

"I hope he will come out. It’s been three days," she whispered, holding a cup of green tea that kept on losing its warmth.

Meanwhile, outside the mansion, Pablo stood by the front of the main gate, chewing a chopstick. "Does Madam still think we’re in the weekend?" He squeezed his eyes, focusing on the figure standing by the open window of Kai’s room.

"What’s that? Is that that stubborn Kai?" he giggled slightly. "I should be thinking about my tips instead of this boy that doesn’t respect me."

"Well, it seems I won’t be disturbed around 5:00 PM. So... let me just go and take a nap."

He walked back into his office, swung the door open, and closed it shut behind him, locking it.

The clicking sound vibrated through the walls of his office, through the gravels on the ground, and into the transparent main door of the mansion.

On the white couch in the large hall, Lena sat there, her hair lying on her back. She locked her gaze on Kai’s door upstairs, sipping the tea as if, if it finished before Kai exited, she would die.

At that same time, inside Kai’s room, the leaves by his side and on his body had now turned to smoke. But their shape and features weren’t destroyed.
