Goldy Ascendance: Limitless Celestial!-Chapter 50: Luck Stealer of the Heavens!
But I could hardly believe that whatever force was at play here had anything to do with a so-called "righteous" power from the Divine Realm. Those self-righteous zealots wouldn’t allow even the faintest blemish on their pristine, holier-than-thou robes—the ones they draped over the entire Xianlun World. No, this smelled like something much darker... unless it was...
"The Sovereign and the Empress!" Miari and ChiChu’s voices echoed in my mind at the same time.
Outside, the comedic banter of my sect members filled the room. Their laughter had a way of cutting through the tension, turning the atmosphere into something lighter. On the outside, I was smiling and nodding along to Elder Han’s ridiculous praises and Elder Wei’s deadpan retorts. But inside? Inside, I was brainstorming.
To outsiders, my sect might seem like a bunch of unserious fools, but I knew better. This was how they operated. By laughing away the worries, they could clear their minds for planning.
Chu Fengxian, Shi Wenyan, and Split Sword stood near my father, occasionally snickering at the jokes from the two elders and the Heaven’s two golden sons—Long Zhen and Bai Lifen—who were, as usual, at the center of the room’s hilarity.
It can only be them, I thought, addressing Miari and ChiChu through our mental link. Or at least one of them must be behind the demon sect.
My sister Yue Linxi was also connected to our telepathic conversation, though she remained silent for now. I could sense her processing everything, staying sharp and attentive as usual.
"But Master," Miari chimed in, her voice carrying a note of caution, powerful as the Shadow Sovereign and the Demon Empress are, they can’t disrupt the Sky Above Realm without help from someone inside or another realm.
As always, Miari had a knack for seeing beyond the surface of things. And I had to agree with her; her instincts were usually right, a good 95% of the time, much like my own.
"Yeah, yeah, the fairy’s right," ChiChu grumbled. "But here’s the thing, Master—when I was watching you fight that no-shadow guy, I felt something off—"
"You overgrown lizard!" Miari interrupted, not missing a beat. "I told you to leave the thinking to the ones who actually use their brains!"
"Overgrown lizard?!" ChiChu huffed indignantly, his voice reverberating through my mind. "Coming from someone whose idea of ’danger’ is getting stuck in a teacup? Please, you glorified firefly."
"Oh, really?" Miari retorted, her tiny fists clenched. "Well, at least I don’t spend my time brooding over my so-called ’ancient wisdom’ like some overcooked salamander!"
I sighed, unable to keep up with the double onslaught of ridiculousness both inside and outside my head.
"Alright, alright, you two stop it already!" I ordered, rubbing my temples. This was getting out of hand.
Miari snorted. "You’re lucky, dragon. I was about to—"
"Hmph! As if you could ever finish me off! The only thing you’re counting on is your bedtime—fairy!"
Meanwhile, Yue Linxi was laughing softly to herself at their mental bickering. No one else in the room could see it, but her shoulders shook as she stifled her amusement.
"Alright, ChiChu," I said, getting us back on track. "What were you saying before Miari... interrupted?"
ChiChu grumbled something unintelligible before finally responding. "The spiritual qi during your fight with that no-shadow guy... I felt traces of Wrath Spiritual Qi."
"Wrath?" Miari, Yue Linxi, and I all echoed in disbelief.
Why would the Wrath of Heavens be involved with the Shadow Sovereign and the Demon Empress? I thought, my mind racing. And why use the Demon Sect—a thorn in the side of the Sky Above Realm—as their proxy?
The pieces were coming together, but I wasn’t sure I liked the picture they were forming. This was turning into a tangled mess of power plays, and now the Wrath of Heavens Realm was somehow involved.
My head spun with the possibilities. It was too much too fast. But deep down, despite the looming danger, I felt a wicked smile creep onto my face.
Had I really stolen all the luck of the children of the heavens? It certainly felt that way.
I liked this. I really did.
But now, with the Wrath of Heavens involved, things were about to get even more complicated. Just how I preferred them.
I didn’t bring these suspicions to the attention of my father or the Split Sword. It would escalate things far too quickly for my liking—especially when I hadn’t even fully investigated the situation. Not that I was particularly eager to investigate. Unless trouble came knocking on my door—which, knowing my luck, it probably would.
What I really wanted was a few free days to visit the Pagoda of Ancient Artifacts in my Mind Space. Maybe dust off some old relics and pretend I wasn’t involved in a cosmic power struggle for a while.
"Old Yue..." Split Sword’s eyes suddenly flickered, his body straightening slightly as he bowed in my father’s direction. He must’ve received a communication from someone important.
"The Sky Above Emperor himself!" Miari squeaked in my mind. I could almost see her flitting around in excitement.
"I know," my father replied casually, as if an emperor’s direct message was just another Tuesday. "We’ll have a few elders escort the prisoner to the palace."
With the Divine Realm potentially involved, it made sense to hand this mess off to the Sky Above Emperor. My Heaven Secret Sect was powerful, but this wasn’t a situation we could just muscle through. The court would have to handle it with delicate precision, and our sect would act as support for whatever schemes they devised.
Split Sword straightened up, ready to take his leave. "I shall depart then. It’s a shame the powerful Sky Realm demon sect cultivators escaped so easily. Their mastery of shadows made it impossible to capture even one of them." His gaze swept over his two disciples and lingered on Yue Linxi, the core elder of the Heaven Secret Sect.
I could feel my sister stiffen under his condescending stare. I clenched my fists, resisting the urge to say something stupid. Who was he to criticize her efforts?
"Well," I said with an overly cheerful tone, breaking the silence, "at least they stopped whatever carnage the Demon Sect was plotting, right? Can’t win every battle, but hey, I’m sure you know all about that, Split Sword. It must be exhausting to uphold the reputation of an unbeatable warrior!" I gave him an exaggerated wink.
There was a brief pause, then Long Zhen burst out laughing, followed by Bai Lifen, who clapped his hands in mock admiration. Split Sword shot me a withering glare, but I simply smiled back, satisfied.
At least, if I was going to get involved in these troubles, I could have fun doing it.
