Chapter 51: The Jade Dragon Pavilion!

The Jade Dragon Pavilion was an unassuming yet renowned establishment nestled near the outskirts of the Heaven Secret Sect. From the outside, it appeared humble—a single-story building with faded green awnings, flanked by two ancient stone dragon statues that seemed to guard the entrance. Lanterns with swirling cloud patterns hung from the roof, casting a gentle, amber glow across the cobbled pathway. Inside, the air was fragrant with the aroma of rare teas, and the decor was simple yet elegant—lacquered wooden tables and benches, polished to a sheen, and delicate screens painted with scenes of mountains and rivers.

Despite its modest appearance, the Jade Dragon Pavilion was a favored gathering spot for cultivators of all realms. Today, the hall was alive with conversation, buzzing with tales and speculations surrounding recent events in the cultivation world. Young cultivators, seated around with weapons at their sides, leaned forward, eagerly sharing rumors over cups of tea. The atmosphere was lively yet tense, as if any moment, someone might challenge another to a duel or a test of strength.

The fragrance of tea mingled with the electric tension in the air, as young cultivators discussed everything from the latest Dao techniques to tales of legendary figures.

Today, all talk centered on one name: Yue Phaelo.

At a round table in the corner, Jin’er, the red-haired youth, sat with her elbows propped up, fiddling with a dagger the color of blood. Her eyes, sharp as a dagger’s edge, scanned the room, her smirk both challenging and mischievous. She flicked her dagger in the air, letting its crimson aura shimmer faintly before catching it in a swift motion, her every movement screaming of confidence. Her aura was fiery, crackling with barely contained energy, and she seemed perpetually on the verge of a reckless laugh.

Next to her sat Qing Bai, a serene young man in pale green robes. His hair was tied neatly back, and he carried an elegant silver spear that emitted a hum of restrained power. His demeanor was calm, almost unapproachable, as if he saw through the frivolities of youth around him. Every now and then, he would glance at Jin’er, a slight smirk forming on his lips. "Jin’er," he said in a soft, mocking tone, "even you must realize challenging Yue Phaelo would be foolish. He could cut down that wild spirit of yours before you could blink."

Jin’er rolled her eyes, her dagger spinning again in her fingers. "You underestimate me, Qing Bai. I’m faster than I look. Besides," she added with a grin, "you just don’t want anyone else stealing your glory."

Qing Bai chuckled, his voice calm but condescending. "My glory?" His eyes gleamed as he lifted his spear, the silver point catching the lamplight. "Yue Phaelo might be strong, but I’m not one to be underestimated. And besides... haven’t you heard the stories? His heart is ice—he doesn’t even look twice at his challengers."

Across the room, Li Yuan, a broad, muscular figure dressed in dark robes, laughed loudly. He slammed a jug of wine down on his table, his voice booming over the din. "Ice or not, the kid’s still got blood, and blood spills. Just a matter of time, if you ask me!" His words drew chuckles from his group, as they slapped their knees in agreement. Li Yuan rested his enormous black-iron saber on the table. The weapon’s thick, blunt edge glowed with a dark, ominous light, its aura as heavy as his laughter.

Seated next to him, Xu Lian, a teenage girl with wide, innocent eyes and hair braided with tiny silver charms, joined in. Her presence seemed out of place among the hardened cultivators, but her playful expression suggested she was no stranger to this world. She giggled, twirling a tiny crossbow in her hand. "Li Yuan, you’re all talk! You’d probably fall over before Phaelo even noticed you." Her gaze shifted to Jin’er, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "And Jin’er, you’re just trying to impress him, aren’t you? I heard you have a soft spot for those untouchable types."

Jin’er rolled her eyes, though her cheeks reddened slightly. "Xu Lian, you’re the last person who should talk about ’soft spots.’ How many times did you get caught following that one prince from the Moonlight Sect?" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

The group burst into laughter, and Xu Lian shot Jin’er a mock glare before they both dissolved into giggles.

Not far from them, a figure cloaked in shadow sat alone, his back turned to the lively crowd. Ming had an air of mystery, his face obscured by a wide hood, though a hint of a glint from his eyes could be seen now and then. His aura was silent, deep as the void, and yet those nearest to him could feel it—a slight, almost oppressive chill that pressed against their skin. At his side was a sheathed katana, dark and sleek, with a deadly presence that seemed almost to whisper in the dim light.

Jin’er, noticing him, leaned in and whispered to Qing Bai. "Who’s the grim one over there? Ming, right? Does he ever talk, or does he just sit there brooding all day?"

Qing Bai chuckled, casting a wary glance Ming’s way. "He talks only to himself, they say. Maybe he’s communing with his sword spirits... or maybe he’s lost in some higher Dao that none of us could comprehend."

At that moment, Ming shifted slightly, his gaze moving almost imperceptibly toward their table. He muttered under his breath, his voice barely above a whisper, but his words—carrying an otherworldly resonance—reached their ears. "The foolhardy fall first... Yue Phaelo or otherwise."

A hushed silence fell over the group, broken only when Li Yuan slapped his knee with a bellowing laugh. "Did you hear that? The shadow thinks he’s a poet! ’The foolhardy fall first!’ Bah!" He waved dismissively, then looked back at the others with a grin. "Anyway, Phaelo or not, none of us have seen real power yet. And mark my words—I’ll be the one to show you all what true strength looks like."

The others snickered, but there was a strange tension now, one that seemed to thrum through the room as each of them, in their own way, felt the weight of the challenge that Yue Phaelo represented.

As the Evening Deepened...

Their laughter and jabs continued, each fueled by an aura of competition and camaraderie. Jin’er’s dagger gleamed in the light, a testament to her speed and agility. Qing Bai’s silver spear seemed to hum with an ancient power, symbolizing his unwavering, disciplined mind. Li Yuan’s massive saber lay heavy on the table, its dark aura a reminder of his brute strength and bravado. Xu Lian’s crossbow, decorated with silver charms, hinted at her playful spirit, yet her shots were as deadly as any cultivator’s blade. And Ming, with his enigmatic katana, embodied the mystery and caution that shrouded his every movement.

Together, they represented the many faces of ambition—the cocky, the playful, the mysterious, and the bold—all drawn to the rumors of the young prodigy who had stirred the heavens.

As they discussed, debated, and teased one another, the name Yue Phaelo lingered in the air, like a spark waiting to ignite. And somewhere, in each of their hearts, the desire to face him grew, kindling the flames of ambition, rivalry, and the thrill of battle.

Amidst the bustling chatter, a figure entered the pavilion, stepping through the threshold with an effortless grace that caught the attention of even the most self-absorbed cultivators.
