Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill-Chapter 41: Great Dream Traveling Skill
Li Wei and Vince brought the unconscious people back to the surface.
After hearing Vince’s account, Allen looked at Li Wei with approval.
He hadn’t expected that even after he killed the Black Cultist, there would be lingering remnants that nearly caused a catastrophe.
In the end, it was thanks to Li Wei that there were no casualties.
If the Nightmare had chosen to attack Vince, he probably wouldn’t have made it back.
Allen smiled and said, "Li Wei, it’s thanks to you that we made it through this safely."
"Would you be willing to come to the Extreme Night City Mage Tower? If you do, I can petition the Mage Tower to grant you the status and benefits of an Official Mage. The Extreme Night City Mage Tower also has lineages for traditional Mages, so you could choose to follow the traditional path or the Ring Mage path."
His offer was clearly sincere as he enthusiastically invited Li Wei to Extreme Night City.
Li Wei said, "Thank you for the invitation, Mage Allen. I’ll think about it."
Allen said, "Whenever you’re ready, just come and find me."
After the Black Cultist’s death, the people who had fallen unconscious gradually began to wake up.
"Ouch! That kills! What happened? My back hurts so much!"
An Apprentice Mage struggled to his feet. He tried to reach for his back, but the mere movement of his arm brought tears to his eyes from the pain.
Hearing this, Li Wei looked over, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Caught in the blast of the Small Fireball Technique, the two Apprentice Mages the Black Cultist had used as human shields were both injured.
After waking, the people who had been parasitized by the Nightmare felt completely drained.
Gu Ze was the only one whose body had not been possessed by the Nightmare. He quickly scrambled to his feet after waking up.
It was thanks to the protection of Li Wei’s Invisible Armor that the Nightmare had been unable to possess his body. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Gu Ze looked around, saw Li Wei, and asked in surprise, "What happened?"
Li Wei explained what had happened.
Gu Ze looked pensive. "After we entered the sewers," he said, "we ran into a few Nightmares while searching for the Black Cultist. During the fight, I suddenly felt my thoughts grow heavy and I became drowsy. After I killed the last Nightmare, I couldn’t hold on any longer and passed out."
"Come to think of it, we must have been hit by the Black Cultist’s group Sleep Dream Skill during the fight!"
Li Wei asked, puzzled, "Why didn’t the Black Cultist use the Sleep Dream Skill on me?"
Mage Allen walked over. "The abilities of a Black Cultist come from Yubis," he explained. "They aren’t like the Magic that Mages master. Putting Lair and the others into a deep sleep was probably the extent of his power."
"Another possibility is that he had already completed the Blood Sacrifice Ceremony. He probably thought he could easily deal with you and Vince, so he didn’t bother with the Sleep Dream Skill."
"To Black Cultists, the dream realm is a Holy Sanctuary not to be trifled with. They won’t enter it lightly, as doing so might cause them to hear the whispers of the Evil God and lose their sense of self. I once met a Black Cultist who hadn’t slept for three straight years."
"Although the Sleep Dream Skill is powerful, for them it’s considered a Forbidden Technique, not to be used casually."
Mage Allen’s words cleared up Li Wei’s confusion.
’What Allen said was likely the truth.’
After completing the Blood Sacrifice Ceremony, the Black Cultist had successfully advanced to Tier Two, and his combat power had skyrocketed.
If Mage Allen hadn’t intervened at the critical moment, Li Wei and Vince would have been no match for a Black Cultist with Tier Two strength.
When Gu Ze saw Mage Allen, he quickly bowed in greeting.
The two injured Apprentice Mages also gritted their teeth through the pain to offer a respectful bow.
Mage Allen was a Tier Three Mage; the proper respect was essential.
"Li Wei, Lair is injured, so I’m taking him back for treatment. When you have time, come find me at the Professional Association for a chat. I have a few decent Magic Models I could show you."
Allen smiled at Li Wei and gave him a knowing look.
Li Wei got the hint. He nodded and said, "Thank you, Mage Allen. I’ll definitely visit when I have the chance."
Allen left with Lair, Vince, and the others.
As they walked, Vince said, "Li Wei’s power is astounding. I suspect he was holding back during his match with Lair."
The memory of Li Wei’s astonishing Casting speed was seared into his mind.
Lair looked at Mage Vince in surprise, not expecting him to praise Li Wei so highly.
He couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy.
He had already lost to Li Wei once. Now, Vince was lavishing praise on him and even claiming Li Wei had been holding back.
It felt like salt was being rubbed in the wound.
Lair glanced back at Li Wei, clenched his fists, and thought, ’Li Wei, I swear I’ll become an Official Mage before you do!’
Li Wei, Gu Ze, and the others returned to the Mage Tower.
Before long, news arrived from the Professional Association. The body of the Apprentice Mage who had failed in the earlier hunt for the Black Cultist had been found in the sewers.
The body had become a desiccated husk, used by the Black Cultist in the Blood Sacrifice Ceremony.
This was likely one of the factors that allowed the Black Cultist to advance.
The Professional Association delivered the body to the Mage Tower, which then notified the Apprentice Mage’s family to come and claim it.
Li Wei stood by the window, watching several men and women dressed as nobles weeping over the body in the plaza below.
The Apprentice Mage had belonged to a very minor noble family.
They didn’t even hold a formal title bestowed by the Empire.
They were minor nobles, their title bestowed only by the Macher Kingdom.
The title was only valid within the borders of the Macher Kingdom.
For a small family like theirs, losing an Apprentice Mage was a devastating blow, like their world had come crashing down.
Li Wei watched as the sobbing figures carried the body away.
He turned back into his room and began to reflect on the battle’s outcome.
He realized he lacked a Control Spell, or at least an escape spell.
At the end, the Black Cultist’s power had suddenly exploded. If Mage Allen hadn’t intervened, Li Wei knew his chances of survival would have been slim.
It was a factor beyond his control, something he couldn’t have predicted.
But if he had a Control Spell or an escape spell, he would have had a chance to retreat when the danger escalated.
Before going to select a suitable spell, Li Wei sat down to meditate, focusing his Spiritual Power within his mind.
A memory that didn’t belong to him surfaced.
After a long while, Li Wei opened his eyes and saw new words materializing on the wall.
[Great Dream Traveling Skill (Tier Zero)] 0/10000
An ability he had unexpectedly obtained after killing the Black Cultist.
Li Wei wasn’t even sure if it was a spell.
It had no Magic Model and could be cast simply by consuming Mana.
Upon using it, he would enter a sleepwalking state, able to travel between dreams and reality.
Li Wei hesitated, unsure if he should use this ability.
He had read that any knowledge or ability originating from an Evil God came at a price.
The Great Dream Traveling Skill came from the Black Cultist, so it was most likely connected to an Evil God.
Li Wei didn’t dare to use it rashly.
Then again, he recalled another saying: the moment you gain knowledge from an Evil God, the price has already been paid.
’What was the price?’ Li Wei wondered.
’It should be fine,’ he reasoned. ’I only obtained the ability from the Black Cultist. If there was a price to pay, the cultist has already paid it.’
To be on the safe side, Li Wei went to the library to search for any information related to the Great Dream Traveling Skill.
He searched until midnight but couldn’t find anything.
The only remotely relevant piece of information he found was a single sentence.
"A rare few of Yubis’s followers possess the ability to traverse the dreamscape."
