His uncles had given up a lot for him, and he feels like he had taken advantage of them. From what you said, his uncles brought him up and only now did they get a chance to carry a child, right? So it was not a surprise that the mer wanted to help his uncles raise their children now that they finally wanted to start a family of their own. Su Mo wanted to give them something in return for their grace in raising him all these years.
