Lukas sighed and stood up before coming downstairs. He got a little knowledge of the camp here and he had to say that they might survive for the time being.

If the number of evolvers increased then their chances of survival would increase further but who knows what the future holds.

He decided to not go out for the time being as there was a chance that these bastards might still be waiting or patrolling nearby.

He was feeling a little hungry so he bought a single piece of bread and munched on it while sitting beside his aunt and thinking if she was dreaming or totally passed out with no consciousness left.

Evolution to become an evolver is quite enigmatic. He had heard about the experiences of those new evolvers at the start but his aunt and sisters must be going through a different route right? His was different too.

After finishing the bread he went to pack up any valuable things which might come in handy. There were many valuable things, especially the fridge.

He didn’t know if he could put it in his inventory or not. He hadn’t seen any kind of limit but he doubted it was unlimited.

He went near it and put his hands on it and tried to put it inside the inventory but he failed. Nonetheless, it wasn’t a waste as he got a notification.

"Ahh..I hope there is a system upgrade for this thing too"

He stopped looking for valuable items and started exercising himself for some time before going out.

Enough time had passed and if those bastards were still in the area then he had to find a way to avoid them or just kill them and be done with it.

He would just bring his aunt to a different house in the society and stay there until she woke up.

He came out on the street and to his surprise he saw two dead walkers munching on the fallen bodies of the other dead walkers killed by those swines..’Don’t tell me that these guys can evolve even by just eating rotten flesh of each other? I hope that isn’t the case’

He drew his bow and let it loose and immediately the bodies of the dead walkers turned into ash, leaving behind two crystals.

He picked them and absorbed them. When he checked his status his eyes widened as instead of two he got three crystals...’Fuck...should I eat too’.. As the image of rotten flesh came to his mind, he immediately puked.

’These bastards have quite an advantage in leveling up...being mindless has its own perks it seems’

He just hoped that they also had some big disadvantages or humans wouldn’t survive in this world.

He kept moving silently and also killed dead walkers silently by just his brute strength. They were already very few in this area so he didn’t feel the need to use the bow to alert some unseen people.

It took him quite a while but he did get his hundredth crystal and instead of absorbing it on the spot he came back to his aunt’s home.

He had a feeling somehow that leveling up to level two would take more time and the pain might be a little higher too. Maybe it was not the case but he wanted to be safe just in case.

He found an empty room and absorbed the crystal. The moment the crystal vanished from his hand, he felt a cool feeling inside his body before a raging heat began coursing through his veins.

Then came the pain he was waiting for, his breathing stopped and immediately his body began trembling on its own..

Lukas was only able to grit his teeth as his whole body felt disconnected from his mind for a few seconds, the only thing he felt was the pain of being stabbed with needles everywhere.

It continued for a minute before everything began calming down, strangely enough, in that one minute he didn’t feel the need to breathe somehow.

Nonetheless, he understood something very obvious from it. The intensity of pain didn’t seem to increase from last time but the time he had to endure was definitely increased.

"So, absorbing level zero crystals is worthless for me now...damn now I want those rotten pigs to level up faster now..."

He got some new equipment as drops too but no skill orbs till now.

As for the shop being accessible to level 2, it increased the level of those basic weapons which were sold at level 0.

They were mainly common and uncommon grade which weren’t lucrative for him with his bow beside him. He would buy his big sis Grace and his aunt some but first they also had to learn to handle these weapons.

Just as he was thinking this he heard a faint voice..

"Lukas..."

He got elated as this was his aunt’s voice. According to time, it took her about one day exactly to evolve. Good timing, now he really hoped that those bastards made a last round here.

When he came into the room, Emily was looking with a blank expression. He had seen this expression..’status window’

"It’s cool isn’t it" He sat beside her.

Emily got a little startled before immediately looking towards him. Her emotions went into turmoil remembering everything that had happened just now.

She didn’t know how long she had been asleep but it felt like she woke up instantly. She wanted to just bury everything that happened into a bad memory right now and never remember it.
