Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures-Chapter 1182: Courting Their Own Doom
Chapter 1182: Courting Their Own Doom
In the room, Evan and Rawya got together and carefully studied the excavation drawings of the Ruins of Amun Ra.
Rawya pointed to the center of the floor plan and showed it to Evan. There was an irregularly shaped room with the excavation progress and discoveries marked around it. There were also many passageways connected to it, extending to the edges of the drawing.

“Remember what I told you last year?” said Rawya. “By judging the size and location of the entire Ruins of Amun Ra, Mr. Zoser believed that they could directly enter the core of the ruins from this place. So, after the excavation of the ruins began, his excavation team did not enter the Hall of the Gods through the main gate with the others, but started from the room where the explorers who first discovered the Ruins of Amun Ra entered.”
Evan nodded. Putting aside his greedy nature, the goblin Zoser was still very capable.
“I was an intern assistant in his excavation team and witnessed the entire excavation process. The initial excavation went smoothly. We found a lot of valuable things, as well as some stone tablets engraved with ancient Egyptian articles. The content on these slabs also confirmed this. With their help, we found a secret passage.”
“I remember you saying it was a secret passage full of scarabs beneath a statue of Isis, the goddess of the dead,” said Evan, looking at the passage Rawya had pointed out.
The passage extended downward into another room, which was drawn separately at the top of the floor plan.
Compared to the irregularly shaped room above, the space on this floor was smaller and contained fewer items.
There was just a strange pattern drawn in the center, a triangle with a circle in the middle.
At the three points of the triangle, there were small labels: Obelisk of the Sun, Obelisk of the Moon, and Obelisk of the Stars.
“Obelisk of the Sun, Obelisk of the Moon, Obelisk of the Stars,” Evan read aloud.
The obelisk was the most distinctive ancient Egyptian building besides the pyramids.
It is a tall, four-sided, narrow tapering monument which ends in a pyramid-like shape or pyramidion at the top.
The spires were often covered with gold, copper, or gold-silver alloys. Some magical obelisks were topped with exotic crystals, gems, and various types of mithril ores.
Generally speaking, obelisks were built in the most prominent places. They were carved from a whole piece of granite and weighed hundreds of tons. All four sides were engraved with complex hieroglyphs or magic runes praising the gods and pharaohs. When the rising sun shone on the top of the obelisk, it would shine like a dazzling sun.
But building an obelisk inside a structure was unprecedented.
“The problem lies with these three obelisks. They are actually a magical mechanism involving Alchemy. This is the main reason why Zoser wanted to invite you to join the excavation team last year,” Rawya nodded and continued, “Mr. Zoser believed that as long as the magic mechanism inside the obelisks was reactivated, the door could be opened. However, later research found that these three obelisks are actually used to activate the magic in the middle.”
“Is there a magic in the center of the obelisks?”
“Yes, there is a magic altar over there. We ignored it at first until Mr. Zoser’s disgrace…” At this point, Rawya glanced at Evan and continued, “After Mr. Zoser’s downfall, we could no longer conceal the secret passage and this room we found, so we had to report it. The goblins who entered Gringotts later believed that the altar was a magic array that could be used for teleportation, just like a Portkey, which would only work after activating the obelisks. But whether it is opening the stone door or activating the magic altar for teleportation, there is actually no difference, and Alchemy is still required to activate the magic in the three obelisks.”
“Well, so this time the Egyptian Ministry of Magic took the opportunity of hosting the International Alchemical Conference to invite Alchemists from all over the world to participate in the excavation of the Ruins of Amun Ra, in order to crack the magic inside the three obelisks,” Evan said, roughly understanding the situation!
“Yes, over the past year, Gringotts and the Egyptian Ministry of Magic, which later intervened, have found many wizards proficient in Alchemy to study the three obelisks, but there has been no progress. They are not giving up, because from what they have discovered so far, this is the fastest way to enter the core of the Ruins of Amun Ra.”
“Oh, is the alchemical magic involved in those three obelisks difficult?” Evan asked.
“It’s quite difficult. I also learned some Alchemy in school, but I can’t understand the ancient magic and magic runes on the three obelisks. The Alchemy knowledge involved is too complex and ancient, very different from modern Alchemy,” Rawya replied. “Gringotts originally planned to invite Nicolas Flamel. After all, he is the most prestigious Alchemist in the world and the only one left from that era. But he didn’t agree. Instead, he and Dumbledore recommended you to come. After all, those goblins have high expectations of you and hope to cooperate with you.”
“High expectations?”
Goblins were probably the most unprincipled creatures in this world. Their greedy nature made them only see profit.
As long as Evan could help them unlock the magic on the obelisks, they would probably do anything.
Not to mention what the goblins could offer, Evan thought carefully and wasn’t sure if he wanted to get involved.
This was a mechanism left behind by Ramses II. It was unknown how long it would take to completely crack it.
It could be ten years, twenty years, or even a lifetime…
In the lost ruins under the swamp near Hogwarts, Evan had seen with his own eyes the magic left behind by ancient warlocks and the magic circles arranged using Alchemy. He had not yet fully understood the “Silent” magic, which was so complex beyond imagination.
Not to mention the huge runes that drew power from the Philosopher’s Stone to sustain the entire magic.
The arrangements made by the ancient sorcerers in that ruin were completely beyond Evan’s imagination and ability.
Without the help of the Book of Abraham, he would have had no way of conducting his research.
Based on this inference, as the most famous ancient sorcerer in history, the mechanisms and magic in the ruins left by Ramses II would only be much more complex and profound than the lost ruins near Hogwarts…
With so many things waiting for him to do, Evan couldn’t possibly put too much energy into Egypt.
He could stay here until the end of the summer vacation at most, and then he had to return to Britain.
Besides, even if they were lucky enough to activate the three obelisks, no one knew where the teleportation array in the middle would take them, and no one knew what would be waiting for them when they teleported there.
Based on Evan’s understanding of ancient sorcerers, there might not be any treasure, but there was a high likelihood of encountering some terrifying trouble.
Perhaps Ramses II had sealed an evil god, an outer god, or a void creature within the Ruins of Amun Ra, and a group of ignorant goblins driven by greed and ignorance were trying to dig it out…
The very thought of such a scenario was terrifying enough. These foolish creatures were simply courting their own doom!
