Chapter 83: Chapter 83: The Price of an Affair

When Natalie Morgan was discharged from the hospital.

She made a point to log into the company’s intranet forum.

The posts about her being a rapist’s sister were gone.

In their place, all the forum posts had vanished, replaced by a single statement in black text on a white background.

It essentially stated that slandering colleagues, damaging the company’s image, and spreading false rumors were strictly forbidden.

The statement was from the President’s Office.

As expected, things had quieted down significantly online.

She didn’t know if she should go back to work.

DING. A message came through on her phone.

It was from Mona.

"Morgan, when are you coming back to work? You’ve already used up all your vacation days for the year."

Natalie Morgan clutched her phone, hesitating for a moment before replying to Mona, "I’ll be back at the office tomorrow."

"Come in early. The company has plans for you."

"Got it."

Natalie had no idea what those plans were.

’Fired?’

’A pay cut?’

’Or something else.’

She returned from the hospital to her studio apartment.

She was exhausted, body and soul.

Dr. Carter from Mercy Hospital called her.

"Hello, Dr. Carter."

"Miss Morgan, you need to get to the hospital right away."

Natalie’s heart seized. "What is it? Is something wrong with my mom?"

"Your mom’s awake. You should come quickly."

Natalie’s heart suddenly began to race.

’She’s awake?’

’She’s really awake.’

Without a second thought, Natalie hailed a cab and rushed straight to the hospital.

At the hospital entrance, she saw Felix Finch.

"Natalie." His face held a gentle warmth. A charcoal-gray, knee-length cashmere coat gave him a gentle, refined air. "I heard your mother woke up. That’s wonderful news."

"Dr. Carter just called me. I don’t even know how to describe how I’m feeling." Natalie was overcome with emotion, wanting to cry and laugh at the same time. Her complex feelings were hard to suppress. "Honestly, I never thought this day would come."

"Easy now." He gently patted her back as they walked inside together. "Let’s go see her."

Pushing open the door to the hospital room.

Both of them froze in their tracks almost simultaneously.

Theodore Grant was there.

The look he gave them wasn’t exactly piercing, but it held a turbulent undercurrent.

Natalie deliberately ignored his gaze and quickened her pace to the bedside.

Yulia White was awake, but her eyes were somewhat vacant.

Her mouth hung slightly open, and she didn’t look quite right.

"Dr. Carter, my mom is..."

"She’s just woken up. Her consciousness hasn’t fully returned yet. It will take some time, so don’t worry."

Natalie nodded. ’So that’s how it is.’

She took Yulia White’s hand, stroking it gently. "Mom, you’re going to get better. You definitely will. Don’t be afraid. I’m here."

"Miss Morgan, the traditional Chinese medicine specialist Dr. Finch hired will be here soon to give your mother some acupuncture. It will double the treatment’s effectiveness. Let’s step outside for now."

Dr. Carter said this in front of Theodore Grant, completely unaware.

He didn’t know about the strange dynamic between the three of them.

Theodore Grant’s expression changed instantly.

Just as Felix Finch was about to explain, Theodore stormed out of the room with a dark face.

"Natalie Morgan, get out here," he commanded from the doorway, not even turning to look at her.

The anger in his voice sounded like he wanted to tear someone limb from limb.

Natalie’s back stiffened. She took a deep breath and walked toward the door.

Felix said apologetically, "I hired the specialist on my own. I didn’t think it would cause you trouble."

"This has nothing to do with the specialist."

"I’ll go talk to Theodore. Letting this misunderstanding continue isn’t a solution." Felix, his expression worried, raised a hand to stop Natalie. "You wait here for a moment."

Theodore Grant didn’t see Natalie come out.

Instead, Felix walked right into the line of fire.

"Where’s Natalie Morgan?" His tone was cool, but he maintained a semblance of composure.

Felix walked up to him, his frown deepening. "I don’t know what you’re misunderstanding. Most of my encounters with Natalie have been coincidental. I really don’t get why you’re always losing your temper. Theodore, you never used to be like this."

"What was I like before?" He turned his face, staring at Felix’s tightly furrowed brow, his eyes filled with murderous intent. "Dr. Finch, and what were *you* like before? I’d love to hear it. When did you start having feelings for Natalie Morgan?" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

"Even if I do have feelings for her, that’s my issue. It has nothing to do with her."

"Hah. So you admit it."

Theodore Grant’s jaw muscle twitched. He swung his fist and punched Felix square in the face.

He hadn’t expected Felix to actually admit it.

To admit he had feelings for Natalie Morgan.

All his past suspicions seemed to materialize in that single instant.

He even imagined countless scenarios of Natalie and Felix in bed...

How could he allow Felix to provoke him so brazenly?

Natalie, who had followed close behind, arrived just in time to see Theodore knock Felix to the ground.

She didn’t know how much force Theodore had used, but blood was pouring from Felix’s mouth and nose.

It was a ghastly sight.

"Theodore Grant, why did you hit him?" Natalie reached out to help Felix up, but Theodore grabbed her wrist and yanked her away. "Are you heartbroken? Natalie Morgan, Felix just admitted it himself. He has feelings for you. Explain to me what that means."

Natalie froze.

’How is that possible?’

’Why would Felix say that?’

’Even if he wanted to piss off Theodore, he shouldn’t have said that. The situation was already a mess, and now it’s even more complicated.’

"I..."

"Can’t explain it, can you?" he seethed, pulling her in front of him and digging his fingers cruelly into her waist. "Natalie Morgan, you still dare to say nothing happened between you two? What counts as ’something happening’? Do I have to watch you two sleep together for it to count?"

"No, I..."

Panic filled Natalie’s eyes.

She knew all too well the consequences of Theodore’s fury.

But how was she supposed to explain this? Even if Felix had feelings for her, she didn’t feel the same.

’It has nothing to do with me.’

Felix struggled to sit up from the floor, swallowing hard. "If you’re angry, take it out on me. Let her go."

Theodore was livid, the muscles in his face twitching. "Felix Finch, we grew up together. Are you sleeping with my wife? Fine. Fucking great. Then you can just wait to pick up the pieces of your family. If I don’t bankrupt the Finch Group, then my last name isn’t Grant."

Theodore dragged Natalie outside.

His strides were long, and Natalie stumbled with every step as he pulled her along.

She finally fell to the ground.

She looked at her scraped palm, her brows knitting together in pain.

The man paid her no mind. He scooped her up, slung her over his shoulder, and unceremoniously dumped her into the back seat of the car.

"Drive," he roared at the driver.

The driver immediately stomped on the gas.

The driver had no idea where Theodore wanted to go.

And he didn’t dare ask.

As they rounded a corner, the man spoke. "Go to Crestwood Street."

"Yes, Mr. Grant."

Most of the Finch family’s businesses were on Crestwood Street.

This included the Finch Group’s hospital, their medical device company, and even some of their tech R&D facilities.

He pressed down on the back of Natalie’s neck, forcing her to look out the window.

"This is everything the Finch family owns. Believe it or not, I can make all this splendor disappear from this street in one month."

Natalie thought Theodore had gone mad.

’An empire built by generations of their family, and he wants to destroy it in an instant?’

"Take a good look, Natalie Morgan. If the Finch family ever disappears from Riverden, you’ll be the main culprit. You’ll be the sinner who brought ruin to generations of their family."

He gripped the back of her neck, viciously smashing her face against the car window. "This is the price for infidelity."
