He Got Engaged to His First Love On the Day I Died-Chapter 85: You’re Willing to Do Anything for Him?
She and Theodore Grant had been married for over two years.
In bed, he was always dominant, always in control.
She had never been humiliated in this way before.
She knew he was doing it on purpose.
She didn’t know how long she wrestled with the decision.
Raising her hand, she unbuckled his belt...
She closed her eyes, about to lower her head.
The man raised his hand and gripped her chin, his stern eyes glinting with an inscrutable light.
She panicked, like a startled fawn.
Her lashes fluttered.
Her appearance was incredibly alluring, and the look in his eyes softened considerably.
"For him, you’re willing to do anything?"
"I’m doing this for myself."
’He knew there were some burdens she couldn’t possibly bear.’
Their eyes met, and his expression became complex and unreadable.
Natalie Morgan’s back went rigid. Their intimate position was deeply humiliating for her.
She tried to turn her head away, but he forced her to face him.
He took her small hand and placed it on him.
The heat from his body seared her palm, and her breathing grew ragged.
A triumphant smirk touched his lips as he fastened his belt.
In a deceptively calm voice, he said, "I’ll have someone else handle the Finch Group acquisition. You’ll go back to the design department. Work hard, and don’t forget the debt you owe."
’Natalie Morgan let out a long, silent sigh of relief, as if she had just dodged a bullet.’
...
「The next day.」
Natalie Morgan went to work.
First, she stopped by Mona’s office.
Mona wasn’t in.
As she passed Wanda Lynch’s office, she glanced inside. Wanda was just sitting at her desk, staring into space.
Ever since Theodore Grant had been stabbed and hospitalized,
public opinion online had suddenly shifted. Everyone had turned on Wanda Lynch.
They accused her of being resentful after failing to get what she wanted.
They called her a sparrow trying to become a phoenix.
The more extravagantly they had praised her before, the more viciously they cursed her now.
’Theodore Grant must be heartbroken over it.’
Just before noon, Claire Grant walked into the design department.
Everyone was gathered in the conference room.
Zoe Sawyer sidled up to Natalie Morgan and whispered, "I heard there’s a staffing change involving you. Do you know where you’re being transferred?"
Natalie Morgan shook her head.
She wasn’t sure either.
Zoe Sawyer lowered her voice even more, her mouth nearly touching Natalie Morgan’s ear.
"Did you hear? That design Supervisor Lynch submitted was stolen. Some poor soul’s work caught her eye, and she even got the hundred-thousand-yuan prize for it. If it were my design, I’d be so angry I could spit blood."
"All right," Mona’s voice cut in. "Everyone, please be quiet. Mr. Claire has an announcement."
The room fell silent at once.
Claire Grant stood before them.
"I know none of you like meetings, so I’ll make this quick. Wanda Lynch is hereby removed from her position as Deputy Supervisor of the Design Department and terminated, effective immediately. Natalie Morgan will be her replacement."
The room erupted in a commotion.
Wanda Lynch, fired so abruptly, looked absolutely livid. "Mr. Claire, why am I being dismissed? What did I do wrong?"
"’Stealing a design and scamming your way to a cash prize. You have a short memory.’"
"Even so, Mr. Claire, you don’t have the authority to fire me. I was personally appointed by Mr. Grant."
"Are you saying you won’t leave until Mr. Grant comes and tells you himself?" Claire Grant looked annoyed. ’She was a vice president, for crying out loud. Couldn’t she fire one person?’ "Who the hell do you think you are? I tried to be nice, but you wouldn’t take the hint. Now pack your things and get out."
Humiliated, Wanda Lynch’s eyes welled with tears.
The designers in the room all exchanged glances.
Those who were already in the know lowered their heads to hide their snickers.
Wanda Lynch had lost all face and her job to boot. She walked out in utter humiliation.
Claire Grant was also about to leave, but she stopped after a few steps and turned back. "Claw back Wanda Lynch’s hundred-thousand-yuan prize and transfer it to Natalie Morgan."
It was only then that everyone truly understood what had happened.
So, Wanda Lynch had stolen Natalie’s design.
"’I knew it!’ Cecilia Carter said with a kind smile. ’That design looked like your style. It really was yours. Congratulations!’"
’A promotion?’
Natalie Morgan was a little stunned.
She stood up, awkward and self-conscious, and forced a pained smile at her colleagues.
Claire Grant quickly left the design department.
Her colleagues flocked around her, offering their congratulations.
「Meanwhile, in the CEO’s office.」
Wanda Lynch was crying like a wronged child.
"Even if I used someone else’s design, does that mean I should be fired? You have to give people a chance to make amends! She told me to get out in front of everyone, without a shred of respect. Theodore, your sister went way too far."
Wanda Lynch sobbed.
Theodore Grant glanced at her coolly. "This job wasn’t a good fit for you anyway. You have a kidney transplant coming up, and you shouldn’t overwork yourself. It’s better to rest at home."
"Theodore..." Wanda Lynch didn’t mind losing the supervisor role, but she wouldn’t let Natalie Morgan get off easy. "...In that case, can you have Natalie Morgan come take care of me? Please?"
Theodore Grant leaned back in his chair lazily. "She doesn’t know the first thing about taking care of someone."
For some reason, his tone held an unbelievable tenderness.
"’But she can keep me company! We’re around the same age, so we’ll have things to talk about, don’t you think? You can just pay her more if you have to. Please, just say yes.’"
Wanda Lynch pestered him relentlessly, refusing to take no for an answer.
Theodore Grant neither agreed nor refused. Mostly, he just wanted her to drop it.
"’I’ll have my driver take you home.’"
Wanda Lynch knew she couldn’t press the issue any further.
’She knew Theodore’s temper all too well.’
She had no choice but to say softly, "’I’ll take that as a yes, then. I’ll head home now.’"
Wanda Lynch had just left when Weller Kendall rushed in.
"’Mr. Grant, per your instructions, the filing of the rape case against Thomas Morgan has been withdrawn. Also... the hospital called. They said Yulia White’s condition isn’t good.’"
"’What do you mean?’"
"’They said they were able to resuscitate her, but she needs to be under observation for a few days before they can be certain about her prognosis.’"
This was not good news.
Theodore Grant’s expression grew tense. "’Go keep an eye on things. Report any bad news to me immediately. And tell the hospital not to notify Natalie Morgan for the time being.’"
"’Understood.’"
’In truth, when Yulia White had woken up the other day, her condition hadn’t been as good as they’d hoped.’
’He didn’t want the worst to happen, but it was out of his hands.’
Noelle Bell walked in, holding a file. "’Mr. Grant, everything is ready at the seaside location. When should we head over?’"
"’Has Byron Quincy arrived yet?’ he asked, loosening his tie and taking a sip of coffee."
Noelle Bell replied, "’He’s already here. Should we ask... Mrs. Grant to join us?’"
"’Have her come to my office.’"
Ten minutes later, Natalie Morgan arrived at Theodore Grant’s office. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"’Mr. Grant, you were looking for me?’"
"’Congratulations on the promotion, Mrs. Grant.’ He toyed with a pen, slowly lifting his eyes to meet hers. ’Feels good to take someone else’s place, doesn’t it?’"
Natalie Morgan’s elegant brows furrowed slightly.
’What does he mean, "take someone’s place"?’
’Wasn’t this the company’s decision?’
’It’s not like I begged for this promotion everyone is jealous of.’
"’Is Mr. Grant feeling sorry for Wanda Lynch now?’ A contemptuous smile touched her lips. ’In that case, I don’t mind giving the position back to her.’"
