He Wouldn't Claim Me — Another Man Did-Chapter 120 - 107: The Owner
All eyes in the private room fell on Isla Prescott.
"First flowers, and now a gift? Ms. Prescott’s love life is really blossoming!" said Candy.
"Well, what do you expect? Ms. Prescott is gorgeous. I’m a straight woman, and even I want to kiss that face."
Teasing her, they went over to help Isla Prescott with the gift bag.
Isla Prescott didn’t want to accept something from an unknown source. She looked at the staff member and asked cautiously, "Which gentleman is it from?"
"I’m not sure. The gentleman didn’t leave a name. He just said that Miss Prescott would know who it was from once I delivered it."
"Then it must be someone Ms. Prescott knows."
"Hurry up and open it!"
Under everyone’s curious gazes, Isla Prescott took the box out of the bag.
The box was made of black walnut wood, its design vintage and exquisite. Even without a gift inside, the box itself could have been the "gift."
Isla Prescott recognized it at a glance. It was the box Shane Sterling had used to hold the jade bracelet.
She opened the box.
Sure enough, inside was a jade bracelet.
"What a beautiful bracelet!"
"Is that real jade?"
"Of course it’s real! Look at the quality. Not only is it real, it must be very expensive."
Everyone gathered around, chattering all at once.
Annabelle Leighton walked over. "Let me see just how expensive it is!"
The crowd parted to make way for the worldly Eldest Miss Leighton. Annabelle Leighton glanced into the box and blurted out, "This is from Shane Sterling, isn’t it?"
Isla Prescott was silent.
Kiki Ford asked, "How did you know?"
"A normal person couldn’t afford a gift this expensive!"
This made everyone even more curious. "Be honest, how much is this thing actually worth?"
Annabelle Leighton held up her hand, making a ’seven’ with her fingers.
"Seven thousand?"
"Who do you take him for?"
"Seventy thousand?"
"Nope, guess higher."
"Oh my god, I’m too poor to even imagine. Miss Leighton, just tell us the number and put us out of our misery."
"Seven figures, at a minimum."
Everyone: "..."
Isla Prescott had known the bracelet was expensive, but she’d never imagined it was *this* expensive.
She was suddenly on pins and needles.
"Is the gentleman still here?" Isla Prescott asked the staff member.
"I’m not sure about that. I was only responsible for delivering the gift."
Isla Prescott put the jade bracelet back in the bag and said to Annabelle Leighton, "I’m going to step out and make a call."
"Okay."
Carrying the bag, Isla Prescott went out into the hallway and dialed Shane Sterling’s number.
Shane Sterling answered quickly. There was no small talk, just a single sentence tinged with faint resentment: "You finally called me."
Isla Prescott saw the reflection of her trembling eyelashes in the mirrored wall, like a dying butterfly in the afternoon sun.
’So just hearing his voice was enough to send waves crashing through her heart.’
’She finally realized how futile her attempts to numb herself had been.’
"I received the bracelet," Isla Prescott began, "but it’s far too valuable. I can’t accept it."
"It was always meant for you. Its owner can only be you."
"We already broke up."
"Breaking up doesn’t change the fact that you’re its owner."
"Where are you?"
"Behind you."
Isla Prescott spun around, but the hallway was empty.
Shane Sterling’s voice came through the phone again. "Look down."
Her gaze pierced through the window and looked down, where she saw Shane Sterling standing beside his car.
He was dressed in all black, as if steeped in the night itself.
"I’m coming down now," Isla Prescott said.
"Don’t. I have to go."
"Can’t you just wait for two minutes?"
"I can’t." He tapped the face of his watch. "I have a flight to catch."
As soon as he finished speaking, Shane Sterling got right into his car.
The car started slowly, pulling away from the lounge’s entrance and merging into traffic.
Isla Prescott watched Shane Sterling’s car leave, knowing she wouldn’t have a chance to return the bracelet to him today. Just as she was about to hang up, Shane Sterling suddenly said, "Wait."
"Is there something else?"
"Something very important. Happy birthday."
