He Wouldn't Claim Me — Another Man Did-Chapter 121 - 108: Fell Ill
The birthday dinner that day didn’t end until after ten that night.
Isla Prescott got home, took a shower, and lay down to sleep, but she tossed and turned, unable to drift off.
She got up, took out the bracelet from Shane Sterling again, placed it by her pillow, and gazed at it quietly.
The truth was, she didn’t know the first thing about jade. But she remembered the first time she saw the bracelet; Shane Sterling had told her to just wear it for now, and that later, it could be an heirloom for their children.
Children...
Shane Sterling was free-spirited by nature and often spoke in jest. She couldn’t be sure if, even for a moment, he had seriously considered a future with her.
Thinking back on their time together, from the very beginning when her mother was sick and he lured her into his trap, he had never once seriously said he loved her. And now, when she brought up breaking up, he only said that she was free.
’What does this bracelet really mean?’
’He’d spent a fortune for her... but was that love?’
Isla Prescott sighed deeply, ensnared by a feeling of being trapped, unable to break through the barriers in her own heart.
She remained mired in these feelings for the next few days.
She hoped to find a chance to return the bracelet to Shane Sterling, but Justin Wyatt said that Shane Sterling would be abroad for some time, with no fixed date of return.
Isla Prescott was troubled. Honestly, a bracelet this expensive was a problem to even store. She couldn’t just leave such a valuable gift in a drawer in her rented apartment.
In the end, Isla Prescott had no choice but to arrange with Annabelle Leighton to temporarily keep the bracelet in the safe at her apartment. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Annabelle Leighton couldn’t resist and once again started prying about her relationship with Shane Sterling.
"So did you two break up or not?"
"We did."
"You broke up, but he still sent you such an expensive birthday gift? Looks like he’s not over you." Annabelle Leighton suddenly remarked, "It seems like all your exes can’t get over you."
For a moment, Isla Prescott couldn’t think of what other ex she was talking about. Then she heard Annabelle Leighton say, "Isabelle, I heard some rather bad news about Silas Lockwood. I’m not sure if I should tell you."
"What news?"
"Silas Lockwood is sick. I hear it’s something serious."
Isla Prescott felt a jolt of alarm. "What do you mean, ’something serious’?"
Annabelle Leighton frowned and said in a low voice, "Cancer."
Indescribable horror.
Isla Prescott’s knees went weak. "Is it true?"
"I haven’t actually verified if it’s true, but I’ve already heard several people talking about it. And where there’s smoke, there’s fire."
After hearing this news, Isla Prescott was on edge all morning.
The last time she’d seen Silas Lockwood was the day before Shane Sterling and Genevieve Quincy’s engagement. They had run into each other at a bar, and he had been the one to take her home.
’When I saw him that day, he seemed perfectly fine. How could he suddenly have cancer?’
From the bottom of her heart, Isla Prescott hoped the news was just a malicious rumor. But that afternoon, she got a call from Yvette Shaw.
Isla Prescott and Yvette Shaw hadn’t been in contact since their falling out. A call from her at a time like this could only mean something was truly wrong.
"Hello?" Isla Prescott answered the phone. After a moment’s hesitation, she still said, "Auntie."
"Isabelle, is this a good time to talk?" Yvette Shaw’s voice was hoarse, as if she’d just been crying.
"It’s fine. Go ahead."
There was silence on Yvette Shaw’s end for a few seconds, then came a sob. "Isabelle, Silas... he’s sick. Can I ask you to go to the hospital to see him? Even if it’s just to sit and talk with him..."
At that moment, all their past grievances seemed to vanish into thin air.
Even through the phone, Isla Prescott could feel Yvette Shaw’s fear and vulnerability.
She didn’t dare ask for more details and quickly agreed. "Which hospital is he in?"
