Heart Over Sword-Chapter 272: Engagement Party
Chapter 272: Engagement Party
{Music Recommendation: Bells by Pêtr Aleksänder }
Evanna stepped into the grand ballroom, a vision of elegance and grace in her navy, off-the-shoulder dress. The gown cascaded to the ground in a waterfall of rich fabric, hugging her figure in all the right places. The front of the dress dipped daringly between her cleavage, accentuated by delicate silver straps adorned with glistening diamonds, adding a touch of opulence to her attire.
Her arms were adorned with sheer sleeves that billowed gracefully after the elbow, creating an ethereal aura as she moved. The soft fabric whispered secrets of her every step, leaving a trail of enchantment in her wake.
The gown seemed to have been crafted just for her as though it were an extension of her very being. Evanna’s emerald eyes sparkled like jewels, mirroring the brilliance of the diamonds that adorned her neckline. Her raven hair cascaded down her back in loose, elegant waves, adding to the allure of her ensemble.
Beside her, holding her hand against his elbow, Arawn matched his outfit to hers. His presence exuded a captivating charm, and his face, a perfect blend of strength and tenderness, drew admiration from those around him.
The navy suit, tailored to perfection, accentuated his broad shoulders and trim waist, exuding an air of regal sophistication. The silver accents on his outfit mirrored the glimmer of the diamonds on Evanna’s dress, subtly connecting them as a couple, their love intertwining in every detail.
As he held her hand against his elbow, it was as though they were bound by an invisible thread, connected in a way that defied explanation. His touch was gentle yet possessive, a silent declaration to the world that she was his and he was hers.
Arawn’s half-up hairstyle, adorned with delicate braids, showcased the chiselled angles of his face, enhancing the allure of his sharp jawline. But his crystal blue eyes captivated all who dared to meet his gaze. Like pools of enchanting waters, they shimmered under the soft lighting of the hall, revealing the depths of emotion he held within- only for her.
As they danced together, their steps in perfect harmony, their connection was undeniable. Each movement seemed to be a language of its own, speaking of a love that transcended mere words. In the company of each other, they found solace, a sanctuary amidst the swirling melodies and enchanting atmosphere.
Nobody would second guess their engagement.
The world around them seemed to fade into the background, and they existed in a realm all their own. Arawn held her with a firm yet gentle touch, guiding her with a confidence that mirrored the certainty of their love. Evanna surrendered to his lead, placing her trust in him wholeheartedly. As they swirled and twirled on the dance floor, their eyes remained locked in a magnetic gaze. Her smile was radiant, a reflection of the happiness that filled her heart. With Arawn, her worries seemed to fade away, and she felt safe and cherished.
For the rest of the evening, their party indeed celebrated well, even with the looming threatening presences of King Nuvian and Queen Iolena. Ronan was in better spirits; his lips turned upright, gracing others with his charming smile. Garrett held Fiza to the side of his hip, proving to anyone nearby they were a couple of some sort. Axel drank with him, and hearty laughter followed their group, enticing others curious about the mixture of Flori and humans.
Evanna and Arawn stood among them, connecting the group together. King Nuvian watched them, another lover on his lap. "*Does the sight of them annoy you, your majesty?*" She asked.
"*Since when did I tell you it was okay to speak to me?*" Nuvian snapped back, feeling the beginning of a headache forming. "*That is my granddaughter...*"
The threat was laced in his voice. Nobody should dare insult her.
"*A-apologies, your majesty.*" She remained as a comfortable statue, stroking the strands of the king’s hair, which calmed him.
After the way Loraven acted to any suitors, all elves, Nuvian suspected Evanna would prefer humans as well. Especially after being raised among them. He was content to see she would marry an elf and birth elven children that could carry on their lines.
Three strong royal families were strengthened by this couple. Love was sometimes stronger than power. Conrad was powerful and was yet to usurp the throne, but even he would struggle to take on the three kingdoms. It was better to side with their own than to go against the woodland elves.
"*They make quite the couple,*" Queen Iolena said in a bored tone. She sat on the throne beside him, one of her lovers massaging her feet.
"*Indeed..*" Nuvian replied, then smirked as the queen’s attention returned to the dance floor. "*Oh look... The icicles are starting to drop again.*"
The king followed her gaze and snickered as one landed on a courtier’s foot. She squealed. "*How delightful.*"
Among the revelry, Arawn and Evanna slipped outside and sneaked down the corridors until they were once more at her mother’s favourite spot. "Arawn? What are we doing here?" Evanna whispered, then giggled when Arawn spun her around, lifting her high, allowing her raven dark strands to blow around them.
He let her feet touch the ground again but held her close, adoring how he could hold her like this now their engagement was announced. Of course, in Dunhurst, it was still considered vulgar until they were married, only allowing the barest of touches, such as escorting the lady to dates and with an accompanying chaperone. It wasn’t like that among the elves and fae, though.
"*Do you trust me?*" Arawn asked, grinning down at her wickedly.
Evanna loved that smile of his. It meant he was up to no good. It only enhanced her own need to join in the mischief. She looked up at him, her emerald eyes sparkling with playfulness and a hint of excitement.
"*Of course, I trust you*," she replied with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "*But what devilish plan have you cooked up this time?*"
Arawn’s grin widened, and he winked slyly at her. "*Oh, my flower, it’s a secret for now. But I promise you, it will be an adventure you won’t forget.*"
Evanna couldn’t help but laugh, feeling a thrill run through her veins at the prospect of their little escapade. With Arawn by her side, life would always be filled with surprises, and she relished the excitement of the unknown.
"*Alright, then," she said, her curiosity piqued. "Lead the way, and I’ll gladly follow you into whatever mischief awaits us.*"
"*Good girl. Close your eyes,*" he whispered by her ear, letting the heat of his breath tickle her ear and send goosebumps down her bare shoulders.
Closing her eyes, Evanna wasn’t sure what to expect. But it wasn’t the leap of faith she was expecting. Instead of screaming in terror as her feet left the ground and cold air blasted across her dress and hair, she giggled in glee, feeling Arawn’s firm arm hooked around her waist.
