Chapter 273: Dance in the Mountains

{ Music Recommendation: Bird by Billie Marten }

Evanna’s smile was brighter than any star tonight. Her emerald green eyes were alight, sparkling as the fresh air of the mountains caressed her skin, blowing strands of her hair away from her face. The navy gown blended with the night sky as they rose higher from the palace, lifting away as though Arawn had wings. The mountains rose to meet them, higher and higher.

Evanna’s gaze flicked to Arawn’s, then down to their feet. They were... They were now walking along the air. Below them, the enchanting palace glittered along the mountainside, and the valley and river looked tiny. But Arawn started leading them lower. Each step descended as they walked away.

His hair was once more an art of perfection, much like his face, not a strand out of place. His eyes glowed, revealing the elven gift he was using. It seemed effortless coming from him. After using her own powers and being taught by Arawn, she knew how much power and control he wielded.

They lowered until the moon and mountains were once again much higher. Evanna’s neck arched back as she gazed up at everything, then looked to their feet as the rushing of water sprinkled drops along the tops of her feet. With one hand held out, Arawn’s eyes glowed more intensely. Slowly, the top of the water froze, allowing their feet to land gently on the surface.

Arawn rose her knuckles to his lips and kissed gently before lowering himself to her feet. Evanna’s hands went to his back for stability after he lifted one foot off the ground. "Hold on to me, flower," he said, his other hand gently caressing her ankle.

Such a touch tickled her and awakened a sensitive desire to flourish across her body, making her shiver. Evanna held on tight as her heel felt slippery. Her other foot was then lifted. She tried to look past his shoulders, his white hair, but she couldn’t see what the prince was doing.

Until he slowly rose, a smile on his lips as he held her hands for more stability. Evanna’s eyes widened when she glanced at her heels and the chock of sharp ice beneath them. "Wh-what is this?" She asked, both intrigued and a little scared.

Arawn chuckled, unable to hold back from seeing the look on Evanna’s face. "You take on the faceless, the Flori, a drag... Lyvarians, but this is what scares you?"

Evanna’s heart pinged at the mention of the dragon, but she wouldn’t let it ruin what Arawn had planned. "No..." She pouted.

Arawn grinned, raising one foot at a time, and waved his hand across his shoes. He created blades of ice on him, too, making him taller. "I thought you might like to ice skate. And spend some time away from the suffocating palace," he said, moving his legs in a similar shape to a frog’s as he started to skate backwards, gently pulling Evanna along.

A smile lit up Evanna’s face as she looked down at her feet moving. The air gently kissed her hair again, allowing it to flow behind her, her dress flowing gracefully, reflecting the night sky. "Try sliding your foot slowly towards me..." Arawn trailed off. Evanna was a natural.

She adjusted herself and started gliding towards him. Slowly, Arawn released one of her hands, and they started skating together, their fingers intertwining. The feeling of air against her face, gliding under her arms and through her dress, made her feel like a bird- free and flying along the icy river.

"Do you like it?" He asked, releasing her hand to skate gracefully around her in a circle. Evanna grinned, adjusting herself to watch him as he did. freēwēbnovel.com

"I love it!" It was exactly what she needed. Everything from the palace and what had happened with Ger was lost in the background as she enjoyed this moment with Arawn. "Who knew the cold-hearted prince of the Flori was such a warm, romantic at heart." She winked at him, giggling when Arawn glided closer to her until she was trapped in his arms.

"Who knew this wild, rebellious princess would utterly ensnare me. I would do anything for you, Evanna. Just give the command, and consider it done. I would go to great lengths for you." He looked to the side and gestured with his hand. "I would move mountains for you."

Evanna’s hands slid up his chest. "I believe you would." Arawn leaned down and captured her lips as her hands went into the long snow-white locks of his silky hair. He pulled her tighter against his chest, deepening the kiss. Evanna gasped at the tingling sensation in her core, allowing Arawn to take advantage and slip his tongue inside. A shiver rippled through her as she kissed him ardently back, feeling desire heating between them.

Arawn wrapped his jacket around them in response as they continued to kiss under the moonlight, where the mountainside was cast in silver and navies, and blues, the stark whiteness not so strong in the dark. Where night kissed the snowy grounds, Arawn and Evanna embraced each other.

Arawn broke the kiss before he lost his control and positioned Evanna into a dancing stance. "Will you dance with me, flower?" He asked, his voice soft, caressing her ears and compelling her to instantly nod her head.

"Yes-"

Arawn had already started moving them to the steps like before, They gracefully waltzed across the icy river, and Arawn lifted her and spun her around, continuing to dance to a tune that only they were listening to the sounds of the mountainside.

When the ice started to melt slightly, Arawn pulled Evanna to the edge of the river. "Thank you for this," Evanna grinned, feeling breathless from the bitter cold and the excitement of being outside and with her love.

"We should return." Arawn cupped her cheek, secretly confirming her temperature. It was time to get her inside lest she got frostbite. It also confirmed her Lyvarian roots. Evanna lasted much longer than he expected.

"Yes... You won’t over-exert yourself, right?" Evanna asked, worried.

Arawn grinned wolfishly, hooking his arm around her waist and tugging her close to his side. "Worth it!"

Like that, they lifted into the air again. Evanna put her arms around Arawn, more for warmth and comfort, as they flew slowly towards the palace. She never thought this was possible, but Arawn had a great deal of powers, and he couldn’t possibly use them all the time. The ice and snow were his usual telekinesis.

Evanna stepped onto the window ledge beside the hall. Arawn kept her close to him, and she could still feel his power radiating off him, ready to steady her in case she slipped. Carefully and quietly, without notice, they slipped inside the hall.

It was strange. The hall was quiet. Tense even.

Panick struck Evanna, and she scanned the crowds, her heart beating rapidly until she located Ronan, Axel, Garrett and Fiza. But they were all looking in the direction everybody else was. Slowly, Evanna walked further into the hall, passing Lyvarians as she held Arawn’s hand tightly beside her.

The sounds of footsteps were deafening as a powerful presence cooled the hall further. Evanna felt a trickle of ice fall down her spine, and she became instantly alert. The more she moved, the more the feeling subsided, though, which was strange considering the hostile atmosphere.

Those footsteps were languid, without a need to quicken underneath the penetrating gaze of the king and queen and those around them. Evanna’s curiosity had her push through some of the crowd, and she instantly halted, a trembling intake of breath loud to those nearby.

"G..." Tears pooled in her eyes as her hand fell away from Arawn’s.

"Ger!?"
