Chapter 29: I Will Avenge You

The maiden mused about the system’s prompt while trying to figure out what to do now. She didn’t want to sit on the same bench. The drinks and ice had soaked the seats.

"Luellen?"

The maiden almost froze at Leander’s voice. She turned to him, and the man walked toward her, crossing the distance unhindered. Even when others were nearby, Leander’s presence must have warned them from getting into his vision. Perhaps, only Luellen could stand there.

Stand? She was even like a frozen deer in front of Leander’s car.

Luellen waved her hands around. "I’m okay! It was just a small accident! A kid! A kid did this! You don’t have to worry, Mr Leander!"

"Nonsense." Leander snorted. He looked at the bench where the drinks stained the seats. "I’ll just call Beck. Let’s find a place to buy you new clothes. You shouldn’t walk around like that."

"I will just go home, Mr Leander..." Luellen’s feet felt itchy. She wanted to step back to put some distance between them. Why did this man even stand so close to her?

"The shirts here aren’t as expensive as your dress." Leander still talked, unbothered by their closeness. He took his phone out to dial a number.

Luellen nodded, but her head didn’t move too much. If she nodded a notch lower, she would headbutt Leander’s phone. That was how close he stood. Her heart continued to pound louder the more she spied a look on Leander’s serious face past the phone. In the end, Luellen chose to step back. She was just too close to him.

It was just that Leander used his vacant hand to hold her arm. He looked past his phone screen. "Don’t retreat. The water has already seeped into your clothes. The lines are showing."

Luellen’s eyes flickered. She looked down at her body, wondering what ’lines’ meant. In her panic and distraction, she missed the fact that her bra lines were showing under her wet shirt. One didn’t have to squint to map the lines or the shape of her chest.

Luellen felt like jumping out of the building. Then again, the glass couldn’t be that easy to break.

When the chatters around them grew louder, Leander pulled Luellen closer. He was already on the phone with Beck. However, his eyes roamed the onlookers. He spotted some girls filming them.

"Hide your face."

Leander said that, but he used his hand to pull Luellen closer to him. He almost pressed her face to his chest to hide her identity from the cameras. It didn’t take a few more seconds before Mall Security came with someone from the administration.

The CEO hid his phone, keeping Luellen out of sight. "I want footage from what happened here. Someone assaulted one of mine."

"Yes, sir. We will notify the police!" The mall admin glanced at the girl hiding her face in Leander’s hold. However, asking about her might earn Leander’s ire. He could only cue a utility personnel to lend a towel to Luellen.

"I will avenge you," Leander whispered to Luellen.

[You have gained more of (Leander Wentworth)’s interest! EXP +50!]

...

Sunday’s impromptu trip ended on a bad note. However, Day 7 had not yet passed.

The group had returned to the Wentworth Villa. The big shopping bag sat on Luellen’s bed in the guest room. Luellen didn’t put it on again, but she was practicing on another corset dress that Leander bought her. Yes, the one she changed into after the incident was also a corset dress.

Leander said she should find a way to help herself with that gown they bought. However, it only seemed Leander liked seeing her in such things. Not to mention dressing her in clothes that could be mistaken for white.

"I don’t understand what’s happening..." Luellen watched her reflection in the big mirror. The corset dress was doing so much heavy lifting. Her waist looked so narrow, while her cleavage made an appearance.

Earlier, she had to walk around the mall in just that dress. No cardigan to obscure her arms, no scarf for added modesty. Thinking about it made Luellen cover her face in shame.

She perked up and took out her phone. Luellen opened the camera app and positioned it as if taking a high-angle selfie. "I think... Mr Leander is this tall..."

Her hand froze at the thought. She moved the phone closer, just above her head. She stared at the view the camera gave her. "He was standing so close earlier. I wonder what I looked like by then? Was I the most pitiful? I’m so sure a lemon slice was on my head."

Ring! Snap!

"Oh, wow...!" The maiden shrieked in silence. She patted her chest from shock.

Luellen’s entire body shook when a call came in. She ended up pressing the camera shutter. She would have deleted that photo if only Summer were not calling her. Luellen closed the camera app and answered the call before it would miss.

Summer’s voice came faster than expected. She even had her video on. "Lue! A lot of things! I heard a lot of things! Are you okay? Are you...? Wow, you’re so stunning!"

"Stunning?" Luellen gasped, soon realizing it was a video call. Summer could fully see the whitish corset dress. A blush crawled across Luellen’s face. "Uh... I..."

"That’s what you were wearing earlier, though... I mean, at least in the video..." Summer’s voice grew soft. However, Luellen caught it. The best friend then beckoned Luellen with her hand. "Girl! Someone posted a video of Mr Wentworth shielding a lady from humiliation earlier. The poster said they didn’t get to film the lady’s face.

"But guess what!" Summer strangely grew enthusiastic. "Most people from the conglomerate were like... it could be Shirley! Oh, my God! Did they not remember Shirley is blonde?

"Anyway, I have a feeling that she’d turn up with dyed hair or a wig tomorrow! Anyway... that was you, right?" Summer grinned with a glimmer of expectation in her eyes. "Were you on a date with Mr Wentworth? What happened? Tell me! Tell me more! Where are you now? Maybe we can meet?"

Luellen glanced at the room around her. It looked similar to her room, but the space was wider. She looked at Summer again. "I... I’m not home... but... yeah..."

A bitter and feigned grin became Luellen’s response. "Shirley happened."

"Huh?" Summer flinched and gasped, a hand shooting to her mouth. She screeched. "NO! Baby, are you hurt? Did she use force? Mr Wentworth mentioned assault! I should have known someone attacked you!"

"It’s okay... I’m not expecting anything big to come from it." Luellen smiled with all her bitterness. "Ms Gala protects Shirley. I doubt Mr Leander will press charges..."

"Oh, Lue..." Summer gasped again before deplating along with her friend. "I’m so sorry. Are you going home soon? I want to hug you! You need hugs!"

Luellen chuckled and nodded. "I will find you after going home. This dress is not meant for a weeping fiesta. Look for a movie you want to watch with me. Also, let me know which flavor to get for you. I’m buying ice cream."
